2 Thai Men Arrested Over Alleged Abduction of Chinese Woman in Bangkok

Two Thai men have been arrested after allegedly assaulting and abducting a Chinese woman in Thailand and attempting to transport her towards the Thai-Myanmar border.

The woman reportedly escaped by jumping from the vehicle while it was travelling through Kamphaeng Phet province. She then sought assistance from members of the public before police arrived at the scene.

The incident was reported shortly after midnight on Aug. 23, when local authorities received information about an injured Chinese woman along Ratchadamnoen Road in Mueang district, Kamphaeng Phet. Police officers who attended the location found the woman injured and arranged for her to be taken to a hospital for treatment and a medical examination.

Woman Allegedly Taken From Bangkok Hotel

During preliminary questioning, the woman reportedly told police that she had been abducted from a hotel in Bangkok by a group of four men.

According to her account, the men allegedly forced her into a vehicle before travelling towards an area near the Thai-Myanmar border. She also claimed that her hands had been restrained with cable ties during the journey.

The situation reportedly changed when the vehicle reached Kamphaeng Phet. The woman allegedly managed to escape by jumping out of the moving vehicle. She then ran towards passersby and asked for assistance, allowing authorities to be alerted.

Police subsequently issued a radio warning to patrol units in the area, providing information about the suspected vehicles involved in the alleged abduction.

Police Chase Leads To Two Arrests

A black Nissan Teana carrying Bangkok licence plates was later spotted travelling through a checkpoint. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver allegedly refused to comply and accelerated away.

Police pursued the vehicle until it reached Lan Dok Mai subdistrict, where two men were arrested. They were identified as 41-year-old Somkiat and 24-year-old Kittiporn.

Two other alleged accomplices reportedly managed to flee before officers could apprehend them. Police said one of the remaining suspects had been identified and that efforts were underway to locate him.

During questioning, the two arrested men reportedly admitted that they had collected the woman from a Bangkok hotel. They also allegedly acknowledged that they were attempting to take her towards the Thailand-Myanmar border.

The woman was reportedly carrying her passport when she was taken from the hotel.

Motive Remains Unclear As Investigation Continues

Authorities have not yet established a clear motive for the alleged abduction. Police investigations are continuing as officers work to determine what happened before the woman was taken from the hotel and identify the roles of the two men who remain at large.

The case could potentially involve serious criminal charges relating to alleged unlawful confinement, assault and abduction, depending on the findings of the investigation and evidence gathered by Thai authorities.

The injured woman remains central to the investigation, with her account expected to help police reconstruct the alleged journey from Bangkok to Kamphaeng Phet.

Authorities are also expected to examine the vehicles, hotel records, surveillance footage and other evidence that could establish how the alleged abduction was carried out and whether additional individuals were involved.

The two arrested men remain under investigation while police continue their search for the other alleged suspects.
