SIA Plane Tilts Dangerously Close To Runway During Perth Landing Attempt Amid Strong Winds, Pilots Perform Go-Around

A Singapore Airlines (SIA) aircraft narrowly avoided a potentially dangerous landing situation after strong winds caused it to tilt noticeably while approaching Perth Airport in Australia.

The incident happened on Saturday (Oct. 31), when flight SQ213 was travelling from Singapore to Perth.

Footage circulating on social media showed the aircraft descending towards the runway under cloudy skies. At one point, the plane appeared to tilt sharply to one side, with one of its wings seemingly coming dangerously close to the ground.

The pilots subsequently decided to abandon the landing attempt and performed a go-around.

Strong Winds Prompt Pilots To Abort Landing

In response to media queries, SIA confirmed that the aircraft encountered strong winds while approaching Perth International Airport.

The airline said the pilots decided to conduct a go-around as a result of the weather conditions.

A go-around is a standard aviation safety procedure in which pilots discontinue an approach or landing and climb back into the air before attempting another landing.

Although the manoeuvre may look alarming to passengers, it is a recognised safety measure used when pilots determine that landing conditions are not suitable.

Passenger Says Everyone Was Left Holding Their Breath

A Facebook user named Chris Perry, who shared footage of the incident, revealed that his sister was on board the aircraft.

He described the landing attempt as frightening, saying the plane had almost crashed during its approach.

According to him, the pilots managed to find a gap between the strong wind gusts during their second attempt.

He also described the moment as one when everyone’s hearts were in their mouths.

Aircraft Eventually Lands Safely

Despite the frightening approach, the aircraft eventually landed safely at 12.30pm local time in Perth.

It subsequently taxied to the airport gate without further reported issues.

SIA reiterated that the safety of its passengers and crew remained its top priority.

While the footage may appear alarming, the pilots’ decision to abort the initial landing demonstrates how go-arounds are used to manage challenging weather conditions and maintain flight safety.
