During the COVID-19 pandemic, many businesses has been affected badly. Although the F&B industry is categorized as an essential service, many still struggle for their survival.
In view of helping the hawkers to pull through this difficult time, the Singapore government has assisted the hawkers by providing rental waivers. During the Fortitude Budget speech by DPM Mr Heng Swee Keat, he had announced that the rental wavier for hawkers will continue until July 2020 and 50% rental waiver for the month of August with a minimum $200 off.
According to the National Environment Agency (NEA), this wavier will be benefiting 14,000 hawkers which are located in hawker centres managed by NEA. As dining in is not allowed after the circuit breaker, NEA will continue to subsidise cleaning fees for another month, this will benefit more than 6,000 hawkers as well.
These measures come as an effort to reduce the operation cost of the hawkers. The members of the public are encouraged to support our local hawkers. When buying take out from the hawkers, members of the public are encouraged to bring their own containers as well.
