SFA RECALL VARIOUS WINTER MELON STRIPS DUE TO EXCESSIVE LEVELS OF SULPHUR DIOXIDE

Singapore Food Agency (SFA) media release:

” The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) has detected sulphur dioxide, an allergen, in samples of winter melon strips at levels exceeding the maximum limit for sulphur dioxide as stated in the Singapore Food Regulations.

SFA has directed 7 importers to recall the implicated products. The recall is ongoing.

Excessive levels of sulphite in food could result in allergic reactions in individuals who are hypersensitive to sulphite.

Symptoms include hives, itchiness, stomach ache, diarrhoea and vomiting. Consumers who have purchased the implicated products should not consume them. Consumers who feel unwell may wish to seek medical attention”
