A 15-year-old teenager (who cannot be named due to legal reasons) in the UK pleaded guilty to wounding or causing grievous bodily harm without intent to a Singaporean student, Jonathan Mok, 23.
The teenager was purportedly silent during police interviews until he was shown cCCTV images, following which the teenager said: “You can’t even see me hit him.”
The Crown Prosecution Service has said that they will be applying for a “hate crime uplift” at the sentencing, which will be on September 7.
Daniel Kavanagh of the Crown Prosecution Service, said: “He (the victim) was clearly targeted in this hate crime because of his ethnic appearance. Hate crime has a corrosive effect on our society and nobody should be subjected to such vile behaviour.”
