
The police released a statement stating that two men were charged in court earlier today (October 2) for separate cases of cheated and forgery to get the Covid-19 Support Grant (CSG) and the Temporary Relief Fund (TRF).
Both the CSG and TRF served to help Singaporeans affected by Covid-19 financially,
One of the accused, an unnamed 20-year-old was charged for cheating and attempting to cheat the Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF) by making false income declarations, where two appications were made in his name while another six were made using his parents and friends’ names.
MSF approved five of the applications and gave him $2,500.
He was also charged for cheating a friend of his SingPass information which he used to apply for the TRF.
Another 36-year-old was charged for cheating MSF for the TRF, as well as attempting to cheat the MSF for the CSG.
The man also forged a retrenchment letter to supplement his false declarations for both the TRF and CSG, as well as a forged payslip.
His TRF application was approved and he got $500 from the MSF, but his CSG application was not approved.
Both men are facing:
- Imprisonment of up to 10 years and a possible fine for each charge of cheating under Section 420 of the Penal Code.
- Imprisonment of up to 10 years and/or a possible fine for each charge of forgery for the purpose of cheating under Section 468 of the Penal Code.
