Ahmad then stole the gold that the victim, Madam Maumumah Awang, 54, was wearing, hid her body in a drain and fled to Malaysia where he pawned the jewellery that he stole.

He was sentenced to life imprisonment and 18 strokes of the cane on November 4.

The court heard that during the incident which happened on November 24, 2016, Ahmad was alone with the victim in a storeroom when he thrusted the blades of the grass cutters into her chest, she then fell and begged him for mercy.

She tried to get up but Ahmad bludgeoned her head repeatedly with the grass cutters.

He fled to Malaysia to pawn the victim’s bracelets for RM1,000, two necklaces and a bracelet for RM7,500; of which he set aside RM6,000 for the dowry of his wedding and used some of his ill-gotten gains to gamble.

He then sold the pawn ticket to another pawnshop for RM1,054 and used a part of the money for his wedding, which he went ahead with on December 9, 2016.

Ahmad was then arrested by Malaysian police and handed to the Singapore police the following day.

He was then convicted of a reduced murder charge by Justice Aedit Abdullah.
