Gabriel Lim Wei Hng, 28, was sentenced to 7 weeks jail on November 12 for filming his 25-year-old colleague in a women’s toilet.
He pleaded guilty to one charge of insulting a woman’s modesty and another charge of criminal trespass.
Four more charges were taken into consideration during sentencing.
Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) Lim Shin Hui told the court that Lim “wanted to take a video of a woman using the toilet” when he heard female voices emanating from the toilet.
He then went to the cubicle nearest to the entrance and filmed the victim by holding his phone above the cubicle.
The victim was in a state of undress and shouted at him after noticing the camera.
Lim then panicked and fled the toilet, going into the male toilet to delete the video before going back to his office.
The victim and a witness who was present in the toilet at the time, relayed the entire incident to the security office and they checked the CCTV to establish his identity, that’s when the victim recognised Lim as a colleague.
Mr Favian Kang, Lim’s defence lawyer, mitigated that Lim’s offence was a “spur of the moment” folly, and he added that Lim was genuinely remorseful.
District Judge Marvin Bay said: “Offences of this nature are unfortunately all too prevalent, and deterrent sentences are therefore called for.”
Lim is expected to start serving his jail sentence from December 14.
