LATEST: SG & M’SIA IN DISCUSSION ON VACCINE PASSPORTS TO RELAX BORDER CONTROLS

Singapore is currently discussing with Malaysia on the mutual recognition of COVID-19 vaccination pass, which will pave the way for the two countries to further relax border controls and promote personnel exchanges between the two sides.

The Ministry of Transport today (February 22) stated that both the International Civil Aviation Organization and other countries in the world have conducted various discussions on mutual recognition of vaccination certificates. “The Ministry of Transport and the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore have been actively participating in relevant discussions, including discussions with neighbors such as Malaysia.”

According to media reports, Malaysian Minister of Transportation Wee Ka Siong mentioned in a press conference yesterday when the first batch of COVID-19 vaccines arrived in Malaysia. Singapore’s Minister of Transportation Ong Ye Kung has taken the lead in contacting Malaysia and asked for both countries to use “vaccine passports.” Proof of quarantine exemption for entering and leaving the two countries. Wee revealed that he has brought the matter to the Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs for discussion.

Wee Ka Siong said: “This matter is under discussion. As the vaccination process is ongoing, we will follow up…Isolation may not be necessary in the future. This will revitalize the aviation industry in Malaysia and the region.”
