Joey Mendoza has apologised for the “confusion caused” so far after claiming he wrote “We Can Achieve” in 1983, a song that was identical to Singapore’s “Count On Me, Singapore”.
Mendoza confirmed that he doesn’t have any evidence that can substantiate his claim, U-turning from his claim the week before when he said that he could produce a video from 1983 of orphanage children singing “We Can Achieve”.
Mendoza has ceded his claims after the MCCY started a correspondence with him and pressed him to substantiate his claims.
He confirmed to MCCY that he has “unconditionally and irrevocably” withdrawn any claims with regard to the lyrics and rune of “We Can Achieve”.
He also acknowledged that the Government of Singapore holds the copyright to the music and lyrics of “Count On Me Singapore”.
Mendoza also informed his associates and networks to remove “We Can Achieve” from their platforms, and he apologised.
MCCY has since accepted Mendoza’s apology.
