AT LEAST 9 S’POREANS STILL IN UKRAINE, MFA IN TOUCH WITH 8 OF THEM

In his ministerial statement in Parliament yesterday, Minister of Foreign Affairs Vivian Balakrishnan revealed at there are at least 9 Signaporeans still in Uklraine.

He said that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) is in touch with 8 of the Singaporeans, and they are trying to contact at least one other Singaporean.

He said that their safety remains the MFA’s priority concern and they are in contact, and will assist them whenever and however possible.

Balakrishnan also added that the MFA is exploring options for them to leave the country, if the situation permits.

Meanwhile, he urged Singaporeans who are in Ukraine to seek shelter and listen to the advice of the authorities, as well as registering themselves with the MFA immediately.

MFA issued a travel advisory on 26 January and 13 February, in the days leading up to the Russian invasion, and 7 Singaporeans left Ukraine before the conflict.

3 more crossed the border into Poland after the Russian invasion, with one of them doing so in a convoy with Malaysians.

Balakrishnan thanked his counterpart in Malaysia for helping to evacuate the Singaporean from Ukraine.
