The other day, my boss said something that really got me thinking. In a meeting, he made a comment about how employees are just like pet dogs.
Replaceable
He said that you can get a new one anytime and that there’s really no need to “invest” in employees.
At first, I was stunned. I had worked at the company for over a year and I was feeling quite comfortable. I had started to form relationships with my co-workers and I thought that I was doing a decent job. But hearing my boss say that made me wonder if I had been working in vain.
But after some thought, I realized that I had been taking his statement out of context. Sure, he may have implied that employees aren’t worth investing in, but I think that he was trying to make a point about how important it is to make sure that employees are happy and content.
The truth is, employees are not like pet dogs; they are valuable members of the team. In a successful business, employees are the ones that make the business run.
But if a boss can have the cheek to make such a statement in front of everyone, I start to think twice if the boss will value any of us.
When I think about it, not just this company I work at. Everywhere we work at we are nothing but pawns and easily replaceable.
I am think If I should continue to work in this company? But on second thought, everywhere else is the same.
I think it’s better I suck it up until I win TOTO or I start my own business.
Till then, I am someone’s dog until I can become a boss and make someone else my B***
