0

The Police have arrested a 39-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman for their suspected involvement in loanshark harassment.

On 27 September 2023, the Police were alerted to a case of loanshark harassment at a residential unit along Hougang Street 91, where the unit was splashed with paint and a debtor’s note was left behind.

Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from Police cameras, officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division established the identities of the man and woman and arrested them on 28 September 2023. Preliminary investigations revealed that the duo is believed to be involved in other similar cases of loanshark harassment. Related paraphernalia, including debtor’s notes, were seized as case exhibits.

The duo will be charged in court on 29 September 2023 under the Moneylenders Act 2008. For first time offenders, the offence of loanshark harassment carries a fine between $5000 and $50,000, with imprisonment of up to five years, and caning of up to six strokes.

The Police have zero tolerance for loanshark harassment activities. Those who deliberately vandalise properties, cause annoyance and disruption to public safety and security, will be dealt with severely in accordance with the law.

Members of the public are advised to stay away from loansharks and not to work with or assist the loansharks in any way. The public can call the Police at ‘999‘ or the X-Ah Long hotline at 1800-924-5664 if they suspect or know of anyone who could be involved in loansharking activities.

12 MEN ARRESTED, ALLEGEDLY RELATED TO BANKING MALWARE CASE

0

The Police have arrested 12 men, aged between 21 and 36, for their suspected involvement in a spate of banking-related malware cases.

Between June and August 2023, the Police received multiple reports of banking-related malware cases, which typically involved unauthorised transactions from victims’ bank accounts even though they did not divulge their one-time passwords to anyone.

Through extensive probes and follow-up investigations, Police established the identities of the 12 men believed to be involved in a money-laundering syndicate responsible for the reported cases. On 27 and 28 September 2023, officers from the Criminal Investigation Department and Police Intelligence Department conducted an enforcement operation at multiple locations island-wide, leading to the arrests. An array of items, including cash amounting to more than $13,000, two laptops, 32 bank cards, 23 mobile devices, drug paraphernalia and a knife were seized during the operation. 60 bank accounts were also frozen to prevent further misuse.

The 12 men are being investigated for multiple offences, such as assisting another to retain benefits from criminal conduct, possession and consumption of controlled drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia, unlawful possession of offensive weapon, unauthorised access to computer material and acting as a member of an unlawful society and locally-linked organised criminal group.

Six of the men will be charged in court on 29 September 2023 for the offence of transferring benefits from criminal conduct, punishable under section 54(5) of the Corruption, Drug Trafficking and Other Serious Crimes (Confiscation of Benefits) Act 1992. If convicted, the offence carries an imprisonment of up to 10 years, a fine of up to $500,000, or both. The Police will be seeking a court order to remand them for further investigations. Police investigations are ongoing against the other six men.

Members of the public are advised against downloading applications from third-party or dubious sites that can lead to malware installed into victims’ mobile phones, computers, and other Information Communications Technology devices. Such malware has resulted in confidential and sensitive data, such as banking credentials, being stolen. To avoid being an accomplice to crimes, members of the public should reject requests by others to use your bank account or mobile lines, as you will be held accountable if these are found to be linked to unlawful activities.

The Police will continue to take tough enforcement action against those involved in perpetrating banking-related malware cases, and will ensure that they face the full brunt of the law.

GIRL CALLED HER SISTER’S BF “UGLY AND LAZY” THEN KICKED HIM OUT OF HOUSE

0

A netizen shared how she called her sister’s boyfriend ugly and lazy and kicked him out of the house after he made fun of her boyfriend.

Here is the story:

I have been dating my boyfriend Ryan for 1 year now. Last week was his birthday and I threw him a surprise birthday dinner with our parents, siblings, and close friends at my house.

Our families get along great and it was a very relaxing evening for all of us, until the incident. My sister had brought her new BF of 3 months, Max.

When Ryan was 14 he suffered serious burns from a fire and was in the ICU for weeks. Fortunately, he recovered but the left part of his face and a decent part of his neck is now scarred, he lost his left eye and 1.5 finger, and his left arm is barely functional due to scar tissue.

I find him very handsome, not only because I love his personality but the “healthy” part of his face is clearly objectively very attractive and he has a decent dad bod which I love.

However, he can be insecure about his injuries when it comes to dating because he dated a couple of girls in the past that turned out to have a fetish for scars that creeped him out. He isn’t comfortable with strangers commenting on his appearance but doesn’t mind joking about it with his close friends. He is generally a shy guy but has a great sense of humor and a lot of friends.

Later in the night, it was us, his brother, and my 2 sisters with their partners. Max had a little too much to drink and was getting vocal about Ryan’s appearance.

It started with curious questions but then he made inappropriate comments about how I must be into ”freaky stuff” and bad boys and apparently pirates?? He also said that he must have gotten his job out of pity (Ryan is a an interior designer while Max is unemployed by choice).

I warned him to stop since Ryan was getting uncomfortable. The last straw was when Max said “Why would you date an old and ugly guy unless you have some weird fetish, does his burnt arm and his missing finger turn you on?”

I saw red. I told him “If anyone is ugly here it’s you, not only is your personality terrible but your face could use some help as well. Maybe [sister’s name] has a fetish for lazy ugly men.” Then I kicked everyone out, it was late anyway and the mood was ruined. My sister was silent the whole time, she didn’t even look embarrassed.

I’m not asking if I was right to defend my bf but I feel bad for calling Max out on his appearance. I recognize now that it was a low blow. There is nothing wrong with his face, he’s a regular guy, I just couldn’t control my anger after his stupid comments.

Ryan found my explosion hilarious. My sister isn’t returning my texts but my mother called me and told me that I should apologize to her because I embarrassed her bf and her taste in front of others. My sister is still dating that idiot, her argument was that this is just his sense of humor, he enjoys dark humor and Ryan should have learned to deal with it after all these years.

MUM FIGHTS WITH ANOTHER WOMAN OVER 8 Y.O SON USING WOMEN’S TOILET, USE CAR TO CHASE HER

0

A fight broke out between two women after one of them let her 8-year-old son used the women’s toilet, according to Channel NewsAsia.

The boy’s mother then drove against traffic and sped up, driving towards the other woman before stopping her car at the very last moment, avoiding running her over.

The Background Story

The story unfolds in a commercial office building located at Block 750A Chai Chee Lane, where a seemingly ordinary day took a dramatic turn.

Wang Jing, a 39-year-old mother, had taken her eight-year-old son to the building for basketball lessons on July 5th 2022.

Around 3 pm that afternoon, Wang’s son needed to use the restroom. Without a second thought, she instructed him to enter the women’s restroom while she waited outside.

Inside the restroom were 33-year-old Tan Siok Khim Irish and her colleague, Ms. Tay Lay Leng. This is where the spark of the dispute ignited.

As Wang’s son exited the restroom along with the two women, Ms. Tay made a comment that would set off a chain reaction.

She expressed her opinion that Wang’s son, at eight years old, was too old to be using the women’s restroom. According to her, he should have used the men’s restroom at the other end of the building.

Wang, overhearing this remark, did not take it lightly. Tempers flared, and she began to make comments about Tan’s appearance, suggesting that she looked androgynous.

The Physical Altercation

The tension reached its breaking point inside the building’s elevator. Wang loudly asserted that there was no issue with her son using the women’s restroom.

The situation became more intense when she swung her hand towards Tan’s face, tearing her mask in the process. Ms. Tay tried to intervene by standing between the two women, but it wasn’t enough to defuse the situation.

Upon reaching the ground floor, the dispute spilled out of the elevator. It was here that Wang’s actions took a more aggressive turn.

Ms. Tay reported feeling “light hits on her back.” Tan, fearing for her friend’s safety, pushed Wang in the chest, causing her to fall backward.

The Dramatic Conclusion

But the confrontation didn’t end there. Wang, fueled by anger, went to her vehicle and embarked on a frantic search for the two women in her car.

She spotted them at a zebra crossing and, astonishingly, drove against traffic, accelerating towards them. It was only at the last moment that she stopped her car, avoiding a collision with Ms. Tay.

Wang then confronted Tan, grabbing her shirt and insisting that she stay until the police arrived. This standoff continued until law enforcement finally intervened.

As a result of the altercation, Tan suffered mild bruising, swelling on her cheek, a bruise on her lips, and abrasions on her neck.

Legal Consequences

In the aftermath of this incident, both parties faced legal repercussions. Tan was fined S$1,000 for her role in the scuffle. However, the prosecution argued that Wang, as the initial aggressor, deserved a higher fine of S$2,500.

Ultimately, Wang Jing was fined S$3,000 on 29 September by the court for her conduct. She pleaded guilty to one count each of criminal force and a rash act endangering personal safety, with a third charge taken into consideration. Medical reports indicated that Tan’s injuries were less severe than initially thought.

WIFE INSTALLS A CAMERA AND CAUGHT HUSBAND WITH BABY SITTER

0

I installed a camera in the living room and caught my husband making out with the babysitter.

I have been having suspicions for almost 4 months since I hired this part-timer young babysitter for my 3-year-old daughter. I’m a nurse working full time while he works three nights a week and comes home to sleep during the day.

I felt I was going crazy because something was off and he refused to ease my mind and answer questions I had – so I put a camera in the living room and saw nothing till day 4 when he and the babysitter were making out on the couch behind my daughter’s back while she was watching tv. I felt like my entire world came crashing to the ground. I felt all kinds of negative feelings including guilt even though I just wanted to keep my job when he complained about me pushing him to the side.

He started crying when confronted, tried to get me to listen but I took my daughter and went to stay with mom. It’s been a whole month now. The babysitter is gone and he’s still crying about his slip up, even went as far as say the babysitter was the one initiating.

I feel like I’m done with him after this. He managed to make me feel guilty for not dressing up or giving him enough attention now I do strongly believe I bear part of the blame in what happened.

I feel disgusted and my mind and heart keep racing not knowing how to deal with all of this. he’s begging for a second chance and his family are defending him against me.

Here are what netizens think:

  • He’s blaming the wife too. And he’s got her believing both. I hope she turns him in via video and kicks him out. He’s just a drain on her life anyway. In all shapes and forms.
  • It is not your fault. Shifting the blame is the cheater’s way to muddy the water and make you doubt what you know to be the truth. That goes hand-in-hand with blaming the babysitter – she initiated it – riiight. Read your own words: I feel like I’m done with him after this. I think that is your gut. Trust your gut.

HUSBAND KEEPS THAI BABY GHOST AMULET, WIFE HAIR GETS PULLED AT NIGHT

0

My husband has been keeping this Thai amulet and it is really causing me some problems.

First, he brought it home gave it offerings and etc and I was not too bothered about it, he started giving candies, toys, milk and some other stuff. I did not say a word as he believes strongly in this.

After a month went by my lazy husband stopped giving offerings and stopped his daily routine, he only gives it when he remembers. He said that he is not offering because he did not win the 4D.

I got fed up with him and told him that if everyone in Singapore gets a Khun Maang tong amulet then the whole of Singapore would be full of billionaires. I told him, if he’s not going to do it religiously then he should return the amulet back to the temple. He agreed and said he will bring it back to the temple the next day.

That very night, while I was sleeping I dream of a small boy who is crying and looked at me with hate in the eyes, and continues to cry non-stop and I woke up in pain as if someone pulled my hair very hard.

I woke up my husband and asked if he played a prank on me but he was too drunk to wake up. So I went to the living room and on the lights and sit there from 4am till morning. Lucky it was Sunday and I did not need to work.

After I told my husband what happened he immediately drive to the temple and left the amulet there.

I am wondering is there anything else I need to do, to make sure my home is clean.

Can anyone advice?

PARENTS TOLD 6 Y.O DAUGHTER THAT THEY SHOULD HAVE ABORTED HER

0

I(20m) have a younger sister(6f) and she always hangs out with me whenever I’m home.

Yesterday I was playing video games and she walks into my room crying. I ask her what’s wrong and she said that our parents just told her that they regret having her.

I confront my parents about it and they said that they find her extremely annoying and that if they knew that she would be like this they have aborted her.

The part that pisses me off the most is that the reason they think she is annoying is that she is mentally slow and often doesn’t understand certain things.

We got into an argument and afterwards my sister wouldn’t leave my side. I am moving out within 2 months but I don’t know how my sister will handle not having me around to comfort her.

I’ve been extremely worried about leaving her due to the way she gets treated, what should I do

Netizien’s comments

Something’s wrong with your parents to say that to a six year old. Do you have some close relatives to talk to?

If you move out can you reside nearby? Your parents may be willing to let your sister visit often or spend the weekend.

Children can grow up fine even if there’s just one person who cares about them and makes them feel loved.

S’PORE POPULATION HITS RECORD HIGH OF 5.92 MILLION, OF WHICH 3.61 MILLION ARE S’POREANS

0

According to the National Population and Talent Division (NPTD)’s annual Population in Brief report on 29 September, Singapore’s population has reached a record high of 5.92 million people at of June, earlier this year, marking an increase of about 5% from the previous year.

Snippet from NPTD’s report

The Population in Brief is an annual publication that provides data and key updates on Singapore’s population trends. The publication covers various areas that contribute to a sustainable population that has a strong and cohesive society with Singaporeans at its heart, a dynamic and vibrant economy to provide good jobs and opportunities for Singaporeans, and a high quality living environment and home for all Singaporeans.
The key population trends are as follows:

Marriages

In 2022, there were 24,767 citizen marriages, a record high. The number of citizen marriages increased for the second consecutive year since 2020, when the number of marriages dropped due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the annual average number of citizen marriages in the last five years (22,700) remained lower than that of the preceding five years (23,600).

Births

There were 30,429 citizen births in 2022, 4.0% fewer than the 31,713 citizen births in 2021. The annual average number of births in the past five years (31,800) was also lower than that in the preceding five years (32,700). The resident total fertility rate (TFR) reached a historic low of 1.04 in 2022.

Pandemic decline

Overall, Singapore’s total population stood at 5.92 million as at June 2023, a 5.0% increase from June 2022. Taking into account the decline in total population in 2020 and 2021 amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, the average total population growth rate over the past five years was comparable to the preceding five-year period.

PR population increased

The citizen population increased by 1.6% from 3.55 million in June 2022 to 3.61 million in June 2023. The Permanent Resident (PR) population increased by 3.7% from 0.52 million in June 2022 to 0.54 million in June 2022 to 0.54 million in June 2023. With the easing of travel restrictions related to COVID-19, more citizens and PRs living overseas returned to Singapore, and this was the largest contributing factor to the increases in the citizen and PR populations. The citizen population continued to age, with 19.1% aged 65 and above in June 2023, compared to 11.7% in June 2013.

Non-resident population increased

The non-resident population increased by 13.1% from 1.56 million in June 2022 to 1.77 million in June 2023. The increase was seen across all pass types, and the largest increase came from Work Permit Holders in the
Construction, Marine Shipyard, and Process (CMP) sectors, as contractors hired more workers to catch up on projects that were delayed by COVID-19.

BROTHER RANTS ABOUT EX-WIFE KNOWING NOTHING, HE ALSO KNOWS NOTHING

0

This happened at new year’s but I’m still getting scolded for it so here we are.

My brother has 2 kids with his ex wife. Ever since they split he’s been constantly saying she’s a terrible mother who doesn’t know anything about the kids and doesn’t deserve any custody of them, but the examples he gives for this seem to me like moments of absent-mindedness.

Things like her giving a wrong date of birth (she said 8th instead of 18th, then corrected herself), forgetting which kid interest is which cartoon, not knowing one of them only eats one flavor of a particular food, and buying the wrong flavor.

I know his ex, and from what I’ve seen she’s a great mom. So unless I’m seriously missing something, it seems like my brother is just exaggerating to make her look bad. I’ve also always had a sneaking suspicion that he doesn’t know very much about his kids.

His wife had them for new year’s and I figured he’d have a lot to say about it, so I found out some info about the kids and when he started claiming his ex knows nothing about the kids and is therefore a terrible mother I quizzed him on his kids. It was pretty simple stuff, favorite toys, teacher’s names, allergies, favorite colors, favorite TV shows, what they want to be when they grow up. He didn’t do very well. Incidentally, my other brother and sister knew all of that information about their own kids.

My brother was mad at me then and is still mad at me over 2 weeks later. My parents say I need to apologize for embarrassing him in front of the whole family. I think if he was gonna claim his ex knows nothing about their kids and that makes her a bad mom, he should be prepared to demonstrate that he actually knows things about them.

Should I apologize?

Here are what netizens think:

  • This! He’s mad because you’ve highlighting an issue that he’s uncomfortable with about himself. His anger is clearly deflected embarrassment about himself. If he comes to you for another apology I’d double down and let him know how transparent he is. He’s letting his children down and making a show of himself.
  • Better still tell him you will apologize if he can tell you the answer to a question about his kids.
  • Yep and tbh, I would think he’s probably a bit of a narcissist. Seems like he’s trying to get out ahead of it
