The videos, reportedly taken at Kinderland’s Woodlands Mart pre-school, sent shockwaves through social media platforms and messaging apps. The footage depicted a teacher in the act of forcing children to consume water against their will and resorting to physical punishment by striking a child on the buttocks with a book. These distressing visuals immediately ignited public fury and concern for the safety and welfare of the children involved.

Swift Action by Authorities

Recognizing the urgency of the situation, officers from the Jurong Police Division sprang into action. They managed to identify the woman allegedly responsible for the abusive behavior within a remarkably short span of six hours from the time the initial report was filed.

Justice Prevails

Subsequently, the woman was taken into custody by the authorities. The incident underscores the commitment of law enforcement agencies to ensure the protection and welfare of children, and their swift response reflects their dedication to upholding justice in such distressing cases.

Those convicted of of ill-treatment of child or young person could be jailed for up to eight years, fined up to $8,000, or both.

In a tragic incident that unfolded on the morning of August 25, 2023, a 57-year-old man lost his life after being struck by a Malaysia-registered lorry while attempting to cross the road at the junction of Jurong West Avenue 2 and Bulim Avenue, the lorry driver later fled the scene, according to Shin Min Daily News.

At 9:25 a.m. on that Friday, emergency services were alerted to a collision involving a lorry and a male pedestrian. The Singapore Police Force responded to the incident, confirming that the man had been rushed to the hospital in a conscious state.

Tragically, despite efforts to save his life, the man succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at the hospital.

According to a worker working at a nearby factory, he said that the traffic in the area gets quite heavy during the morning peak hours, with the ongoing construction making the situation worse.

SMDN reported that in a post on the Singapore Taxi Driver Facebook page shared on 26 August, she alleged that the lorry involved in the collision was registered in Malaysia, and its driver fled the scene after the accident.

The grieving relative also revealed that while the police had managed to capture the car plate number of the lorry from CCTV footage, the driver can only be arrested when they come back to Singapore.

Eager to seize the opportunity, the victim agreed to the deal and handed over $450 in exchange for the promised gadget. However, what seemed like a legitimate transaction quickly turned sour. The seller assured the victim that he would retrieve the iPhone momentarily and asked for his patience. Regrettably, as time ticked away, it became evident that the seller had no intention of returning.

The wheels of justice were set in motion as soon as the police were alerted to the incident. Preliminary investigations swiftly revealed the modus operandi of the cheater. Utilizing security camera images, law enforcement officers from the Clementi Police Division worked diligently to establish the identity of the suspected fraudster. Scammers may impersonate government officials or election candidates to solicit banking and/or personal information such as banking credentials and One-Time Passwords (OTPs) via SMS or unsolicited phone calls or in-app calls (e.g. WhatsApp). They may also use the display photos of the people they are impersonating to perpetrate scams, which may include soliciting for bank transfers.

Members of the public are advised not to send or transfer money to anyone without verification and to never share their banking credentials, including OTPs with anyone. The Police would also like to advise members of the public to adopt the following precautionary measures:

1. ADD – Add the ScamShield App and set security features (e.g., enable two-factor (2FA) or multifactor authentication for banks and set transaction limits on internet banking transactions, including PayNow. 
   
2. CHECK – Check for scam signs and with official sources (e.g., visit www.scamalert.sg or call the Anti-Scam Hotline at 1800-722-6688). Do not click on dubious Uniform Resource Locator (URL) links provided in unofficial sources and always verify the authenticity of URL links with the official website of Elections Department Singapore (ELD) (www.eld.gov.sg) or via the Singpass app. Those who are unable to do so electronically can call ELD’s hotline at 1800-CALL-ELD (1800-2255-353).
   
3. TELL – Tell the authorities, family and friends about scams and do not be pressured by the caller to act impulsively. Report any fraudulent transactions to your bank immediately.

On Sunday, August 27, the Ministry of Law (MinLaw) transmitted an official notice that disclosed the names of 24 individuals, all linked to the money laundering case. Notably, this list encompasses the ten foreign nationals who were apprehended earlier in the same month. Alongside them, twelve individuals are currently aiding authorities with their investigations, while eight more are wanted by the police.

A Web of Connections

The notice explicitly highlights the connections that tie these individuals together. Strikingly, none of the implicated individuals hold Singaporean citizenship or permanent residency. This factor suggests a broader international network orchestrating these financial activities. The Anti-Money Laundering/Countering the Financing of Terrorism Division at MinLaw issued the notice, underlining the intricate web of relationships underlying the case.

In light of these concerning developments, the Ministry of Law (MinLaw) has called upon dealers specializing in precious metals and stones to undertake a thorough review of their transactions and business associations. In a remarkable turn of events, a 37-year-old Singaporean man defied the odds by surviving a fall from the fifth floor of the Krabi Seabass Hotel in Thailand, according to reports from Thaiger.

The incident, which occurred on Saturday, August 26, left both witnesses and authorities astonished. Despite the considerable height, the man, identified as Brian, emerged with only minor injuries.

The Astonishing Incident

Rescuers from Krabi Pitak Pracha were summoned to the scene of the Krabi Seabass Hotel following reports of a fall from a considerable height.

Brian, the 37-year-old Singaporean man, had plummeted from the fifth floor of the hotel. What was even more astonishing was that he survived the fall, sustaining nothing more than a few bruises and scratches.

This improbable outcome left everyone in disbelief and raised questions about the factors that contributed to his survival.

According to witnesses and reports, Brian’s remarkable survival could be attributed, in part, to his landing on a clear plastic roof.

Throughout the entire ordeal, Brian remained conscious. This consciousness could have been a key factor in his survival, as it allowed him to instinctively position his body for a safer landing.

Medical Examination and Mental Health

After the fall, Brian was immediately taken to Krabi Hospital for a comprehensive medical check-up. While his injuries were minor, the medical evaluation was crucial to ensuring his well-being. Additionally, investigations were launched to determine the circumstances surrounding the accident.

During the investigation, it was revealed that Brian had been struggling with mental health issues. A close friend, 43-year-old Ho Si Ping, disclosed that Brian had recently sought medical attention to address his mental health condition at Krabi Hospital.

The incident occurred just an hour after Brian and Ho Si Ping checked into the Krabi Seabass Hotel. The two friends had booked accommodation for a single night and were scheduled to return to Singapore the following morning, August 27.
