FROM 2024 ONWARDS, SINGLE PEOPLE CAN BUY 2-ROOM FLEXI FLATS FROM ALL BTO TYPES

0

In Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong’s National Day Rally, he said that from the second half of 2024, the government will introduce a new HDB framework, that will allow single people to own their own homes.

Under the new framework, new HDB BTO projects will be classified into three types of housing – the Standard, Plus and Prime.

Snippet of PM Lee’s speech

So think of it like this. Standard flats are good flats built all over Singapore, and will have HDB’s standard subsidies and standard restrictions. Plus flats are in the choicer locations within a region, and will have more subsidies and tighter restrictions than Standard flats. And Prime flats are in the choicest and most central locations in the whole of Singapore, and they will have the most subsidies and tightest restrictions. Let me show you the whole picture in one slide.

What are Standard, Plus and Prime flats?

The new framework of Standard, Plus, and Prime. Standard islandwide, subsidies are standard and restrictions are standard – that is why we called it standard. Plus flats have choicer region, more subsidies and tighter restrictions. Prime flats, have the choicest locations, most subsidies and tightest restrictions.

Actually the quality of the flats, they are all good flats, good flats, good flats. But the locations are different, the subsidies are different and the restrictions are different. And this new framework – Standard, Plus and Prime will be a major change to the way HDB sells flats. HDB will roll out this framework for all new projects from the second half of next year. It will not affect existing projects. Your current homes, or the homes you have already booked, will not be reclassified.

No more “mature/non-mature” flats

In time to come, we will no longer refer to new projects as Mature and Non-Mature. Instead, we will build a good mix of projects within and across regions, to cater to different needs and budgets. And that is how we can fulfil our commitment to keep high-quality HDB flats accessible and affordable to you and your children for a very long time to come.

Enhancing Access for Singles

The new framework – Standard, Plus, and Prime – will affect everyone buying a new HDB flat, but there is one special group I want to address: the singles. More and more Singaporeans are choosing to be single. Singles too hope to own their homes and have more housing choices. We hear your concerns.

Today, first-timer singles can apply for new flats, but only 2-room Flexi flats and only in Non-Mature Estates. They cannot buy new Flexi flats in Mature Estates. Singles are also not allowed to buy Prime flats. These rules are to prioritise our limited supply of flats, but unfortunately, they have restricted singles’ choices. We will do something about this.

When we roll out the new framework, singles will be allowed to buy 2-room Flexi flats across all types of BTO projects – Standard, Plus, and Prime. HDB will tell you the details soon. But I am sure singles will welcome this move to have more choices to find your own home and to write your own part in Singapore’s housing story.

PM LEE ON RECENT SCANDALS INVOLVING POLITICAL FIGURES – NO SYSTEM IS PERFECT

0

During Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong’s Mandarin portion of his National Day Rally, he touched on a number of topics that included concerns that people had about Singapore’s political system, in the wake of several high-profile scandals involving politicians.

He said that no system is perfect, but assured Singaporeans that he and his team will “definitely do our utmost to maintain Singapore’s clean and effective political system and our reputation for incorruptibility”.

Snippet of PM Lee’s speech

Recent events involving political figures have made some Singaporeans uneasy. They wonder if there is something wrong with our system.

No system is perfect. Whether these events would be a blow to Singapore depends on how we respond. I and my team will definitely do our utmost to maintain Singapore’s clean and effective political system and our reputation for incorruptibility.

Our founding Prime Minister Mr Lee Kuan Yew dealt with similar situations decisively. I have dealt with these matters in the same way. I believe my successor will do so too.

This year is the 100th anniversary of Mr Lee Kuan Yew’s birth. Even as we remember him, we should also remember his guidance. Mr Lee thought that it was important to always remember certain hard truths if our country is to survive.

First, never allow our politics to become corrupt. At the same time, maintain the highest standards of integrity, so Singapore can continue to function well. With this as the foundation, we can implement our core values: Equality and meritocracy; bring out the best in our people and strive for excellence; grow our economy to improve the lives of Singaporeans; and build a multiracial and harmonious society.

What Singapore is today is due to the perseverance and determination of our founding fathers. Let us uphold the nation-building ideals of our founding fathers. So Singapore can continue to prosper and progress, brave the winds and storms that come our way, and still strive for a better tomorrow.

Thank you!

GIRL FEELS LEFT OUT BECAUSE BF GOES OUT WITH HIS FAMILY AND NEVER JIO HER

0

A netizen shared how her boyfriend keeps talking about his family as though he doesn’t treat her as one (they have plans to get married).

She also said that when he goes out with his family, he doesn’t ask her to go along with them and she feels left out.

Here is the story:

Hope I can get some very useful advices here as this concern has been in my mind for awhile now.

My partner (A) and I have been together for a few years now. From the beginning of our r/s, I was well aware that A is a very very family-oriented person and always puts family first over everything. Of course, it was nice to know that A has the right priorities.

Over the course of our r/s however, I  began to feel left out sometimes.

For e.g., A would frequently talk about family – daily happenings etc. (would always include A’s sibling’s partner – they have been together for much longer).

Although I am unable to describe in detail, but whenever A talks about them, it seems like A does not view me as part of the family (despite the fact we have the intention to be life partners – family knows that).

Yet, the way A speaks shows that A views A’s sibling’s partner as family. They have all gone out on a few occasions without me, which I tried not to put much thought into due to the current covid restrictions as well as last minute plans made by them (when I was not over at their place but A’s sibling’s partner was).

Hence, this makes me feel really left out and even “extra” sometimes, I really can’t help but feel hurt. I don’t wish to bring up this matter to A as I know how much importance A place towards family and I have no intention to change A’s views. Not sure if there is anything else I can do?

Editor’s notes: Maybe you can try telling him how you feel, if you’re going to spend the rest of your lives together, a little honesty and transparency goes a really long way.

UPCOMING 9% GST HIKE, PM LEE – “I ASKED LAWRENCE WONG IF ASSURANCE PACKAGE CAN ENHANCE”

0

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong addressed a number of issues during his National Day Rally last night (20 August), among the issues he spoke on were the increase in cost of living and higher inflation.

Snippet of PM Lee’s speech

Good evening, my fellow Singaporeans. Over the last three years, through the pandemic, we stayed united, and overcame challenges. Life has returned to normal. We are organising National Day Dinners once again, to celebrate National Day. Some Singaporeans have developed the good habit of wearing masks when they have a cold or flu, protecting themselves and others.

Cost of Living

Even as we emerge from the pandemic, geopolitical tensions are rising and the international economic situation is uncertain. Prices are soaring globally, resulting in higher inflation.

To reduce the burden of rising costs on Singaporeans, the Government has given out various subsidies. Last year, I used a calendar to show you the support that a Singaporean household living in a 3-room HDB flat would receive. This included U-Save and S&CC rebates, CDC vouchers, cash payouts and Medisave top-ups, amongst others. The Government gave out different subsidies to help low-income families almost every month. Other Singaporeans also received subsidies. Everyone should have received them.

We also have a calendar this year. Like the past year, Government will continue to provide various subsidies almost monthly. In August, we have cash payouts. There are subsidies in September; then U-Save and S&CC rebates in October and cash payouts again in December. In January next year, we will have CDC Vouchers again. In time for everyone to buy goodies for Chinese New Year. We have kept our promise to take care of Singaporeans.

Assurance Package

We know that the GST hike this year has affected Singaporeans, so we rolled out the Assurance Package to alleviate the pressure on Singaporeans, especially middle- and lower-income families. Last year, as a result of the Government’s savings, we had a budget surplus. Therefore, in this year’s Budget, we further enhanced these support measures. The extra CDC Vouchers were very popular. I am glad that these measures have been effective and Singaporeans have benefitted from them.

From 1 January next year, we will adjust the GST to 9%. We will continue with the Assurance Package, as planned. I am confident it will be effective in buffering the impact of the adjustment to 9%. But I am sure you are wondering: could we further enhance the Assurance Package. So everyone gets a little more help? You asked me, so I asked Finance Minister Lawrence Wong. He said he will study it carefully. Let’s wait — and of course, we hope for good news.

However, we must understand the Government cannot give out subsidies infinitely. The long-term solution is to make ourselves more productive, transform our businesses, and grow our economy. Then our real incomes can rise and we can all be better off.

Govt has been stabilising prices

Actually, the Government has been stabilising prices through various policies. In 1973, NTUC established NTUC Welcome, the predecessor of today’s NTUC FairPrice. Its social mission was to ensure that Singaporeans could purchase necessities at affordable prices. Fifty years later, FairPrice is now the largest local supermarket chain. It plays a leading role maintaining costs at a reasonable level, so Singaporeans can continue to buy affordable and good quality goods. As a result, other supermarkets have no choice but to emulate FairPrice by offering their own house brands and promotions.

To reduce daily expenses, we can make smart choices when purchasing daily necessities. Many Singaporeans know how to compare prices. They know which supermarket has the lowest price on which day for which item. They can go to NTUC FairPrice today, Sheng Siong tomorrow and Giant the day after. Some are expert, use mobile applications such as Price Kaki, or access chat groups to decipher where the best “lobangs” (deals) are. If you are from the Pioneer or Merdeka Generation, or hold a blue CHAS card, from Mondays to Fridays, you can go to different supermarkets and enjoy discounts everyday. Many people look out for money-saving hacks, and buy value-for-money necessities to keep their wallets full. So long as we shop wisely, we can still get our hands on cheaper items.

NEW $7 BILLION MAJULAH PACKAGE, PM LEE TO S’POREANS: “DON’T WORRY, GOVT WILL HELP YOU”

0

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said during his National Day Rally speech last night (20 August) that the government is introducing a “Majulah Package” for Singaporeans in their 50s and early 60s, whom he named the “Young Seniors”.

The Majulah Package is set to cost the government about S$7 billion, and will consist of three components, namely the “Earn & Save” bonus of $400 to $1,000 yearly, a one-time “Retirement Savings Bonus” of $1,000 to $1,500 and a one-time “MediSave Bonus” of $500 to $1,000.

Snippet of PM Lee’s speech

The Three components of the Majulah Package

We will introduce a package to help Young Seniors meet your retirement needs – let us name it the Majulah Package. This will be for Singaporeans who are 50 and above this year – born in 1973 or earlier. It will benefit those with lower incomes and less wealth. The support will be tiered, depending on your income and your CPF savings. The Majulah Package will comprise three components.

First, an “Earn and Save” Bonus, to help you build up your CPF savings while you work. Most Young Seniors are still working, and have some years to go before retirement. We encourage you to continue working as long as you can. Lower- and middle-income workers will get a CPF bonus of up to $1,000 a year, depending on your income. The Government will credit this into your CPF account, on top of the usual employer and employee contributions. You will receive this Earn and Save bonus yearly, as long as you are working, whether full-time or part-time. Take for example a lower-income 55 year-old who plans to retire at 65. Over 10 years, her Earn and Save bonus adds up to $12,000 in extra CPF savings if you include the CPF interest, which is not bad.

Second, a Retirement Savings Bonus (RSB). If your CPF balances have not reached the CPF Basic Retirement Sum, you will receive a one-time CPF bonus of up to $1,500. Those who are not working will get this bonus too. This includes homemakers, who have given up their careers and laboured to raise their families, and thus have very low CPF balances.

Third, a MediSave Bonus. Most Young Seniors have enough MediSave balances. Nevertheless, many still worry about healthcare costs, because you will soon be Not-So-Young Seniors. So the Majulah Package will include a modest one-time MediSave Bonus of up to $1,000. It will give you some extra buffer, to help pay your medical expenses and insurance premiums.

58th national day present

The Majulah Package will help Young Seniors, in their 50s and early 60s, to meet your retirement needs. But besides Young Seniors, we also want to encourage older seniors to continue working for as long as you can. Hence the Majulah Package also covers the Pioneer and Merdeka Generations.

I think quite a few here belong to the Pioneer and Merdeka Generation. Let me say to you, if you are PG and MG: If you are still working and meet the income criteria, you too will receive the Earn and Save Bonus as long as you are working. If you are not working, you can still get something from the one-time Retirement Savings Bonus and MediSave Bonus. This will be in addition to the PG or MG benefits that you are already receiving and will continue to receive. Think of this as a 58th National Day present!

The Majulah Package will cost the Government about $7 billion. MOF will create a new Fund to meet the full lifetime costs of the Package, using resources from this term of Government. We will honour this commitment without burdening future generations.

The Majulah Package will benefit some 1.4 million older people across several generations. We will also be enhancing existing schemes, like Silver Support, Workfare, and the Matched Retirement Savings Scheme and the details will be announced next year. Taken together, these improvements will help seniors to meet basic retirement needs, especially for lower- and middle-income Singaporeans so that you can have greater peace of mind in your golden years.

PM LEE – LEE KUAN YEW REMINDED MPs THAT S’PORE MUST BE INCORRUPTIBLE, OR WE ARE FINISHED

0

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong delivered his National Day Rally last night (20 August) at the ITE headquarters, and among the topics her spoke about was the 100th birth anniversary of his father and Singapore founding Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew.

Snippet of PM Lee’s speech

Lee Kuan Yew’s 100th birth anniversary

In a few weeks’ time, we will be marking the 100th birth anniversary of Mr Lee Kuan Yew. It is timely to reflect upon the values and ideals championed by Mr Lee and the founding fathers., and for us to renew our commitment to these enduring values and ideals.

I spoke in my Malay speech earlier about an exhibition now on at the National Museum: Semangat yang Baru: Forging a New Singapore Spirit. The exhibition tells the story of the birth of our nation. It transports us back to our early years of nation-building. It honours the indomitable spirit of the Pioneer Generation. They dared; they fought ferociously for Singapore; they never gave up. And thus they turned mudflats into a metropolis, and took us from Third World to First.

But our forefathers built more than a nation of bricks and mortar, skyscrapers and a thriving economy. They created a nation founded on ideals: justice and equality; religious freedom and racial harmony; a commitment to excellence; a fair system of meritocracy; and an uncompromising insistence on honest, clean government.

“I will do my utmost to keep the system clean”

Integrity and incorruptibility are fundamental to Singapore. They are the foundation on which we run a clean and effective Government, and deliver results for Singaporeans. Mr Lee Kuan Yew considered these the most crucial ideals of all. On his 90th birthday, he came to Parliament to attend the sitting. We celebrated his birthday in the Members’ Room.

We were all there – PAP MPs and Ministers, Opposition MPs led by Mr Low Thia Khiang, as well as NMPs. Frail and ill, Mr Lee said just a few words. He spoke only about one thing – he reminded us Singapore must always remain clean and incorruptible, and Ministers and MPs have to set the example. Otherwise, he said, we are finished.

I will never forget those brief words. For the sake of the country, I will do all I can to keep faith with Mr Lee’s hope. No matter the price; no matter the embarrassment or political cost – I will do my utmost to keep the system clean. Every generation of PAP leaders must also stand by this – this is what Singapore depends upon.

The ideals I spoke about are not just abstract aspirations. They are our compass; they guide every decision we make. They give purpose and meaning to our nation building. They make Singapore stand tall amongst the nations of the world.

Covid seems like a bad dream

By upholding these ideals, we have over decades built a high trust society. One where people trust one another – “regardless of race, language or religion”. Where the people and the Government trust each other too, in big ways and small. This is what saw us through the ups and downs over the past 58 years, and this is how we weathered COVID-19.

COVID now seems like a bad dream. Confused, receding, getting forgotten. But the pandemic could well have been a real nightmare. Things could easily have gone horribly wrong, as they did in many other countries. Thankfully, we avoided disastrous outcomes, and averted the loss of many, many lives. Our people came through safe and sound; our economy revived in good shape; and our society has grown more united, not less. We owe this to our collective efforts, and our strong mutual trust, which we must strengthen and deepen to secure a bright future for our people.

WIFE JEALOUS THAT HUSBAND MAKES 2.5X MORE SALARY THAN HER

0

Both my partner and I are in the same field of work. We both make great money and have good careers. I left my last job a year ago to refocus and decompress. A friend of mine offered me a job with the company he is joining. This job has stupid high pay. Last year while I wasn’t working she was making a lot. She recently just took a pay cut to reduce her workload.

If I take this job I’ll basically be making 2.5x her salary. She flat out told me she was angry and jealous, but not in the funny ha-ha way. She was very angry, almost crying. She’s always been slightly competitive, but I try not to be. I expected a celebration, or at least a congrats.

I have ideas of what’s upsetting her, but I don’t want to jump to conclusions. Is this common with couples? I’m just giving her space for now, but I was hoping for her to be happy about it.

I really did not expect her to respond this way and I thought that she will be delighted as we can eventually buy a better car or some gift or even a holiday for her to actually relax and be happy.

Oh well seems like money is not important, she has more pride than a man.

We’ve been together 10ish years. This was new for me.

I seek advice from a female friend and she said:

“From a women’s perspective. Her reaction was over the top and completely unacceptable. Yet let’s treat her and praise her for it. If GF doesn’t apologize and express regret for her reaction, he really needs to reevaluate his relationship not reward her. Give her a few days and see how she behaves after she calms down. Her reaction even with stress is not understandable. There are some people out there who are only happy if they feel you are below them or are doing better than you. “

WOMAN STANDS ON ROAD TO TAKE PHOTOS, KENA HIT BY CAR THAT RAN OVER HER HEEL

In the age of smartphones and social media, capturing the perfect snapshot has become a common pursuit. However, a recent incident in Tanjong Pagar, Singapore, serves as a stark reminder that even seemingly harmless actions can quickly turn risky.

A woman, engrossed in taking pictures of her friends outside a shophouse, found herself in a harrowing situation when a car unexpectedly ran over her heel while making a turn.

A Candid Moment Takes a Dangerous Turn

The incident occurred on a bustling Wednesday afternoon along Craig Road in Tanjong Pagar. At approximately 4:26 pm, a woman was capturing candid shots of her friends outside a popular Shake Shack outlet.

While the act of taking photos with friends is commonplace, what caught the attention of onlookers was the woman’s precarious positioning.

She stood on the border of a yellow box at the junction of Craig Road and Neil Road. This area marked the intersection where vehicles make turns, putting her in close proximity to traffic.

Ignoring the Warning Signs

Despite a white Toyota pulling up to the junction, the woman seemed unperturbed. The driver of the car briefly paused upon noticing her presence, yet the woman remained focused on her photography, seemingly unaware of the potential danger lurking mere inches away.

As the car made its turn, the vehicle’s wheels rolled over the woman’s heel, causing her to stumble. Fortunately, the incident did not result in severe injuries, as she narrowly escaped a more catastrophic outcome. The driver of the car continued on their way after the unsettling encounter.

Capturing the Incident

Footage of the incident quickly surfaced on the SG Road Vigilante Facebook page, sparking a wave of reactions from viewers. The video captured the woman’s risky position, the car’s turn, and her subsequent stumble.

Upon viewing the video, many individuals expressed concern and disbelief at the woman’s actions. While the incident ended without grave consequences, public sentiment appeared divided. Some were quick to criticize her for endangering herself by standing in a high-risk area, while others empathized with the potential lapse in judgment that led to the situation.

AIRLINE CREW SHARES ‘EERIE’ YET TOUCHING INCIDENT ENCOUNTERED DURING MID-FLIGHT

0

An airline crew from an anonymous airline shared a story about an eerie yet touching incident which he claims to have encountered during one of his flights.

It happened during mid-flight, while most of the passengers were fast asleep and the cabin was dark as the lights were switched off and the windows were all shut.

Here is the story

“I was working on this flight and we had just finished our meal service.

It was a long flight and usually after the meal service, we will keep the lights in the cabin off so as to allow the passengers to have a conducive sleeping environment.

I was alone in the galley during this flight as my other colleagues had went to rest first and another one was checking the lavatories.

This particular elderly man then walked into the galley, introduced himself and asked if I could bring a cup of hot tea to his wife sitting at row 42 as she is feeling cold.

I obliged politely and smiled at him and proceeded to prepare the cup of tea.

He thanked me and disappeared while I was preparing the tea.

I walked to row 42 and served the tea to an elderly lady who was at the seat and she told me that she did not order the tea.

I smiled and told her ‘Oh it was ordered for you by your husband as he mentioned that you are feeling cold.’

Looking surprised, she asked me ‘you saw my husband? are you sure?’, then proceeded to take out her phone and showed me an elderly man’s picture and asked if it the same guy.

I said yes and complimented her for having such a caring and loving husband.

Suddenly, tears started to roll down her face.

She then said ‘i don’t mean to scare you but actually my husband had passed away a few days back and I am bringing his body back home for burial now, his coffin is actually inside the cargo compartment right now.’

I freaked out the moment I heard what she said.”
