FIRE BROKE OUT ON 4TH-FLOOR UNIT OF KEAT HONG HDB, 1 PERSON SUFFERED SMOKE INHALATION

0

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) swiftly responded to a fire incident at Block 803 Keat Hong Close earlier today, after receiving an alert at approximately 10:00 a.m. The fire originated in the kitchen of a unit located on the fourth floor.

Upon their arrival, SCDF firefighters from Clementi Fire Station and Bukit Batok Fire Station were faced with a raging fire in the smoke-filled kitchen. They entered the unit and successfully extinguished the flames using two water jets. However, the rest of the unit suffered damages due to the heat and soot generated by the fire.

Fortunately, two individuals had already evacuated the affected unit before the arrival of SCDF personnel. As a precautionary measure, approximately 40 residents from neighbouring units were evacuated by the police.

An SCDF paramedic promptly assessed one person from the affected unit for smoke inhalation. However, the individual declined further medical treatment and conveyance to a hospital.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, as authorities aim to determine the factors that led to the incident.

MAN IN HIS UNDERWEAR SPOTTED INSIDE LONGKANG @ HILLVIEW, GURKHAS DEPLOYED FOR SEARCH

0

On the morning of Thursday, the 25th of May, a peculiar incident took place in the vicinity of Hume Avenue in Hillview.

Reports indicated that a man, dressed solely in his underwear, was sighted inside a drain. Subsequently, law enforcement officers engaged in a five-hour search in the Hillview area for him, according to TODAY.

Following the incident, waste management personnel were observed removing furniture and multiple luggage bags from the drain.

Despite the extensive efforts of the police, the man in question remained elusive when the officers concluded their search later that afternoon.

Police officers diligently combed the Hillview region throughout the five-hour operation after receiving information about the presence of an individual in the drain along Hume Avenue.

Victor Ilano, a 50-year-old resident who happened to be out for a walk around 6:30 am on the aforementioned Thursday, stumbled upon an intriguing sight.

He noticed a faint glow emanating from a hole in the drainage cover. Upon closer inspection, he realized that a man was situated inside the drain, and the light appeared to originate from the man’s mobile phone. At that moment, the man seemed to be directing the phone’s light towards a luggage bag.

Initially, Mr Ilano hesitated to alert the authorities, assuming that the individual could be a worker engaged in repair activities. However, his suspicions heightened when he observed that the man was only clad in underwear.

After discussing with a jogger in the vicinity, Mr Ilano made the decision to contact the police at approximately 6:39 am.

Police officers arrived at the scene at around 6:50 am. They promptly advised onlookers to maintain a safe distance from the area.

TODAY reported that at 9:15 am, eight police vehicles were seen stationed along the road. Furthermore, one of the drain covers had been cordoned off, deterring people from approaching the site.

Personnel from the Gurkha Contingent and the National Water Agency PUB were also deployed to the scene, along with waste management workers. They were later seen extracting various items from the drain, including a mattress, two chairs, and two luggage bags.

Ultimately, at approximately 12:30 pm, both the police officers and waste management workers concluded their operations and departed from the scene. Unfortunately, despite their concerted efforts, the whereabouts of the man remained unknown at that time.

MOTORCYCLIST SENT FLYING 360 DEGREES AFTER BEING HIT BY TAXI @ TANJONG RHU

An incident occurred on Tanjong Rhu Road towards Meyer Road involving a motorcycle and a taxi, resulting in a motorcyclist being conveyed to the hospital on Tuesday.

A video shared on the Facebook group SG Road Vigilante shows the motorcyclist making a right turn when a yellow ComfortDelGro taxi collides with him.

The collision throws the motorcyclist into the air, sending him spinning 360 degrees off his motorcycle and landing on his head on the ground.

Both the Singapore Civil Defence Force and the police were notified of the accident at 5.35 pm on Tuesday.

Upon arrival at Raffles Hospital, the conscious 26-year-old man received medical attention.

The police are currently conducting an investigation into the incident.

Responding to the incident, Ms Tammy Tan, the group chief corporate affairs officer at ComfortDelGro, stated that the company is making efforts to reach out to the motorcyclist to provide assistance. She further mentioned that ComfortDelGro is cooperating with the police during their investigation.

The taxi had no passengers on board at the time of the accident, and the driver did not sustain any injuries, according to Ms Tan.

Similar accidents

Earlier this month on 11 May, a video emerged online showing a motorcycle being sideswiped by a black Hyundai Elantra, resulting in the motorcyclist and the pillion rider falling off the bike and tumbling onto the road along the Tampines Expressway (TPE) on Thursday morning (11 May).

According to the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), both of them were conveyed to the hospital following the accident.

The black car was seen in the video driving at a high speed along the Kallang-Paya Lebar Expressway (KPE), and after entering into TPE, the driver then tried to cut across all 4 lanes of the road dangerously.

The driver managed to cut across the two centre lanes but sideswiped the motorcycle on the first lane despite trying to turn away from the motorcyclist.

The resulting collision saw the motorcyclist and the pillion rider both falling off their motorcycle and crashing onto the road, tumbling on the ground as the other vehicles drove by dangerously close to them.

Making things worse was the fact that the pillion rider’s helmet also got dislodged from their head, leaving them without protection on the road.

The video then ends with the car appearing to drive away, although it isn’t clear if the driver had later stopped to render aid to the motorcycle that he hit.

A spokesperson for the Singaproe Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said that they received an alert about the accident on Thursday (11 May) at about 8.55 am in the morning.

Two people were sent to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital after the accident for treatment.

Debt with moneylenders who called up my workplace

Hi need some legal advice as I’m caught up with some work issues here.

So my workplace, which has a history of delaying payments to many other workers (not just me) has taken this opportunity to further delay my salary and explictly told me they will not pay me unless I settle the issue with the moneylender.

Is this even legal? How am I supposed to pay the moneylenders when my pay is held up?

Additionally, the HR personnel of my company, whom I tried to liase with to get a direct hold of the payroll in charge has blocked me on WhatsApp when I inquired regarding this said problem.

Could anyone assist me on how to approach this matter and which authorities (spf, mom etc.) I could follow up with!! Thank you so much in advance!

Here are what netizens think:

  • Everyone has loans and bills to pay every month after receiving his or her salary. The employer here is obviously trying to delay paying the necessary to the worker . Unethical!
  • You will need to go to Tripartite Alliance for Dispute Management to file a claim first. Go google TADM n select the salary related option to file your claim online. And you will need to do it fast because there’s specific timelines.
  • Definitely MOM. It’s also possible to go to court if delayed payment is not mentioned in your contract.
  • Its a violation of one of the provisions in the Labor Code. You can file a complaint before the Dept of Labor.

GIRL USE CREDIT CARD LIKE FREE UNTIL SPIRAL IN A POOL OF DEBT

0

Spiraled into credit card debt due to unethical pushy businesses

I’m in debt, but not because of someone else.. It’s because of my naive self. Last year I signed up for a credit card and was so excited to use it, I was confident in repaying my bills and I repaid them on time for the first few months. I started making bigger purchases (furniture at IKEA, furnitures online etc) as I needed new chairs/bed/table for my house which just underwent a renovation.

Slowly, the bills started to rack up but I could still pay them off. The breaking point was when I entered Nai* Palac* to go for a quick manicure as I saw that they were having promotion ($20 for express gel).

As I am a gentle person who finds it hard to say no, I found myself spiralling into debt as the nail technicians kept pushing packages, spas and treatments onto me. (AND everytime I went back for another appointment, they hardsell me and literally profit off me every appointment)

It was to a point that I was dreading my every appointment. They would tell me pity stories of their families in Malaysia, and treat me like a “close friend” and “special customer”, giving me discounts and freebies whenever I say no. I know that it is their tactic but I really can’t say no..

From a $20 quick express manicure session to signing packages which costed over $3~$4k, I really hated amd questioned myself why did I even step into Nai* Palac* in the first place.

Another incident which happened in the same period: I had listened to a radio during a grab ride, and the host was talking about a quick quiz to win a free facial from Victori* Face****. As it was free, I decided to just send sms to try my luck. Within 1 day, a sales associate whatsapped me, saying tjat I had won the radio giveaway. I was surprised but happy, and I asked if there was any costs, to which the staff answered that *it is FULLY FREE from the radio*

Fast forward time, staff hard sell me during consultation, during the facial, after the facial, and even when I told them I had no money, they asked me how much money I had in my bank account and that they will give me a special price for lower amount of sessions.

Even mentioned that they don’t usually do this for anyone. In the end I caved, and ended up in even more debt.

I quarreled and argued with my boyfriend, family and friends over all these and felt damn shitty.

And because banks charge a late interest fee om credit cards, and I was unable to fully repay in one shot, the bill and interest kept snowballing. I am now working a full time job and part time job, (44 hours + 16 hours), and I am tired.

Singapore should crack down all these unethical shops who prey on people like me who are soft hearted and hard to say no. Feel so terrible about my financial situation now, and I can’t even blame anyone except for myself.

MAN SAYS HIS SME EMPLOYEE DOES NOT PAY SALARY ON TIME, DELAYED MANY TIMES

0

Employer does not pay salary on time

Currently working for a local SME, and based on my contract our payday would be last day of the month.

However since my time with the company, they occasionally delay the salary (happened a few times) and can be given only on the 1st, 2nd or even up to 4th without any valid reason. Understandable if there’s a PH which would be next working day, however on these occasions there’s no PH on the last day of the month/ was not a weekend. EG. In June, 30th falls on a Thursday.

And till date I’m still waiting for my salary..MOM guideline is within 7 days..Hais so can’t do anything..This affects me as I’m not privileged… Even a day late has detrimental consequences..Some of my colleagues also very stressed over this delay in salary.. When asked, the in charge blame on bank processing time..

But i don’t understand this as i’ve for many other companies previously and never once had a delay in salary and intead, it’s always punctual/slightly earlier.

Why can’t they submit earlier then so that our salary would be given on time? Why are some employers so inconsiderate? The culture is so toxic, should I leave the company?.

Here are what netizens think:

  • Normally failure to pay employees on time is one of the signs the company is gonna fold. Do what’s good for your and leave to find a more stable job is money is really your top priority.
  • You need to find a new job immediately. Like constantly send resume. It may fold or file for bankruptcy anytime. Once bankrupt, there is nothing you can do. Don’t care how good the working environment is.
  • The company has financial issues and will definitely, and I dare say definitely fold, shut, close down. Leave soon. Meanwhile, secure another employment as soon as possible. It’s within the 7 days MOM law, so there’s nothing you can do even if they pay you on the 7th day after your payday.
  • Start looking for another job or better yet once get this salary quickly tender. notice. Better yet no need find job first, just quit. These kind of company the longer u drag, the longer you won’t get your salary .
  • Yes leave. A company that doesn’t respect their employees, dun waste anymore time there.

S’PORE MAN WHO ABDUCTED EX-GF, STABBED HER & FLED FROM POLICE IN CAR CHASE, JAILED

0

A dispute between a man and his ex-girlfriend escalated into a violent incident, leading to the stabbing of the woman’s male friend and her subsequent abduction, which triggered a police manhunt.

Mohamed Shabiq Mohamed Anwar, aged 22, was apprehended after being witnessed stabbing the woman. He was sentenced on Thursday (25 May) to three years in prison, six strokes of the cane, and a fine of $1,000.

In addition to his conviction, Shabiq, who had engaged in a car chase with the police and was found to be driving without a valid license, was prohibited from obtaining any class of driving license for three years after his release.

He had previously pleaded guilty to various charges, including two counts of assault, one count of abduction, and multiple traffic offences.

To protect the privacy of the assault victims, their identities were withheld in court records.

Background

On July 31, 2022, Shabiq had a disagreement with a 21-year-old woman because she had gone home instead of waiting for him while he finished his gym session.

In response, Shabiq, who had previously made threats to harm his ex-girlfriend, visited her residence to confront her.

Concerned for her safety, the woman confided in a 21-year-old male friend about the incident and arranged to meet him after work over the following days.

On August 2, 2022, the friend met the woman near her workplace at approximately 8:20 p.m. They proceeded to a nearby car park at Block 213, Serangoon Avenue 4, where the friend had parked his car.

Unbeknownst to them, Shabiq was lying in wait nearby. As he approached the couple, Shabiq confronted the woman about their earlier argument.

In a violent altercation, Shabiq struck the woman, causing her to fall to the ground. Witnessing this, her male friend intervened, resulting in a physical altercation between the two men.

Using a pair of scissors, Shabiq repeatedly stabbed the friend, targeting his head, chest, and shoulders. He ceased his assault only when the friend managed to restrain him. Upon being released, Shabiq forcefully took hold of his ex-girlfriend, encircling her neck with his arm and brandishing the scissors.

He forcibly dragged the woman into a rental car and drove away.

The incident was promptly reported to the police, and the injured friend received medical attention at Tan Tock Seng Hospital. He was subsequently granted five days of hospitalization leave.

Later, the rented car was sighted by the police in Woodlands. An unmarked police vehicle pulled up alongside it at a traffic junction between Woodlands Avenue 6 and Woodlands Avenue 7, signalling Shabiq to stop the vehicle.

Instead of complying, Shabiq accelerated, leading to a pursuit by the police. Eventually, he ran a red light and collided with two stationary vehicles, causing substantial damage exceeding $12,600.

Despite the accident, Shabiq continued driving until he abandoned the car on Northshore Drive in Punggol. He and the woman then proceeded to Punggol Avenue 17 on foot.

Around 12:30 a.m. on August 3, 2022, a group of patrolling police officers noticed the pair. One officer witnessed Shabiq stabbing the woman with the scissors and drew his firearm.

Shabiq surrendered shortly after, and an ambulance transported the injured woman, who had suffered a severe neck wound and other injuries, to Sengkang General Hospital. She was subsequently granted 23 days of medical leave.

During the investigation, it was revealed that Shabiq had driven without a valid license on 58 occasions between May 16 and August 2 2022. Furthermore, it was discovered that Shabiq had engaged in the fraudulent activity of assuming another person’s identity to rent multiple vehicles.

MAN LOST HIS JOB, CAUSE COMPANY SAYS “WE NO NEED YOU ANYMORE”

$$ never enough in Singapore

Recently I lost my job as my company mention they don’t need me anymore. As in Singapore everything is so expensive. I have kept my saving very close to me and kept around $65k. I’m 31 this year. Left with $200 plus till my next job if I can find. As I’m currently in the middle of the process applying for a house and everything involve $$.

Getting married in Singapore is costly and the next step you need to get a ring. Follow by engagement ring > wedding ring > wedding > renovation cost > household appliances. All this adds up would be around $100k or even more.

She is a partner who enjoys eating out and spend $. She comes from a wealthy family and the pressure is on me. As I’m a middle income family and I can’t do anything more. At the meantime I’m trying to do my best and do what I can. Is not the dream girl of my life. But she have been there and she is super sweet but not so understanding at times.

Is it fair for couples to take steps to save and open a banking account to save up for plans and be sure we have enough $$ before we can settle down and pay. Currently I’m studying to be a industry which can make $$ in future. Kindly advice What should I do?

Here are what netizens think:

  • You don’t sound like ‘middle income’ person… more like no income. You better tell your Fiancé your situation and budget yourselves appropriately… i fear because you denying the reality of your situation you still spend like you have ‘income’.
  • Dont think about marriage first until u feel that u have enough savings. If she dont understand u now, how is she going to understand u in the future.
  • Tell your partner, she only need to suffer for 5 days in a week. Weekend come to Malaysia, you are the King & Queen here, sprinkle your money like Salt bae, every single SGD has x3 critical hit over here.
  • Sounds like a spoiled & demanding girlfriend you have. Think twice about marrying or else you’ll end up slogging your whole life, just to meet her materialistic ways & high expectations in daily living. Unless she’s willing to give & take and chip in equally in paying for expenses and expensive meals, else find someone less demanding & more understanding.
