48 Y.O COMMANDO OCCIFER DOES 650 CHIN-UPS IN 1 HOUR, GOES INTO S’PORE BOOK OF RECORDS

0

A Singaporean commando officer, aged 48, has achieved an impressive feat by completing an astounding 650 chin-ups within a span of one hour. Lieutenant Colonel (LTC) Robin Lee accomplished this remarkable record at a fitness corner located in Bishan East Park on May 5, 2023.

During the rigorous challenge, Lee strictly adhered to the prescribed standards for each chin-up. To qualify, his chin had to be raised clearly above the bar, and his arms needed to be fully extended during the descent. Several attempts fell short of meeting these regulated criteria, resulting in disqualification.

Approaching the challenge, Lee told Pioneer that he mentally divided it into 60 one-minute sets, with a target of completing 12 chin-ups per set. He maintained this pace during the first half-hour. As fatigue set in, he continued with 12 chin-ups per minute but took longer breaks between sets.

Around the 50-minute mark, Lee confessed that his blisters had worsened to the extent that he could only manage five chin-ups per minute. Nevertheless, he persevered through the pain, and his achievement was officially acknowledged by the Singapore Book of Records, where it is now recorded as the “Most Chin-Ups In One Hour (Individual)”.

Lee, who has experience with demanding endurance challenges, sought to replicate the fitness training he had undergone during his deployment in Afghanistan between 2010 and 2011. Surprisingly, he began focusing on chin-up training only at the beginning of the year, and it was not until late April that he entertained the idea of setting a national record.

To build up his chin-up stamina, Lee performed 100 chin-ups per hour over a span of 10 hours. His commitment to fitness is evident, as he regularly engages in workouts and physical activities. Even after achieving the chin-up record, Lee returned to his exercise routine after just one day of rest, emphasizing the importance of fitness for a healthier lifestyle.

“Fitness is an enabler to healthier living,” Lee stated. “I try to keep myself active at this age because it reduces lethargy and keeps me healthy. And, of course, when durian season comes, I have more leeway!”

The incredible accomplishment of LTC Robin Lee serves as an inspiration to fitness enthusiasts and showcases the indomitable spirit of perseverance and dedication.

DRUNK DRIVER THAT KILLED DELIVERY RIDER AFTER CRASHING INTO HIM @ HOUGANG, JAILED

0

In a tragic incident that occurred in 2021, a driver under the influence of alcohol collided with a food delivery rider, resulting in the rider’s untimely death.

The driver, identified as Andre Low Cheng Jun, aged 36, has pleaded guilty to charges of drunk driving and driving without reasonable consideration.

On 24th May, he was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment and a 10-year driving ban.

According to reports from Channel NewsAsia (CNA), the incident took place on the evening of 23rd March 2021. Prior to the collision, Low had consumed one-and-a-half glasses of Martell cognac at Clarke Quay before driving his friend to Potong Pasir.

While on Tampines Road, he overtook two cars at a high speed, which was noticed by the other drivers.

At a T-junction on Hougang Avenue 1, a food delivery rider had stopped his e-bike in the middle of the second lane. Unfortunately, Low failed to notice the rider and continued to accelerate, only realizing his presence when it was too late. He applied the brakes abruptly but ended up crashing into the back of the rider’s bike.

The impact of the collision propelled the victim into the air, causing him to roll over Low’s vehicle before hitting the ground. The accident severely damaged the e-bike and resulted in the car’s front bonnet and bumper being torn off.

An eyewitness promptly reported the incident to the police, while Low himself called for an ambulance. Upon arriving at the scene, the officers conducted a breathalyser test on Low, which he failed due to the strong smell of alcohol emanating from him. Subsequently, the police arrested him and took him to the traffic police headquarters.

During the investigation, it was revealed that Low had 45 microgrammes of alcohol in 100ml of his breath, surpassing the legal limit of 35. Tragically, the victim succumbed to head and chest injuries at the hospital on the same day.

The prosecution sought a jail term of 15 to 18 months, along with a 10-year driving ban, highlighting the evidence of dangerous driving exhibited by Low. They stated that he was driving well above the speed limit of 60km/h, reaching speeds of at least 70km/h and possibly up to 93km/h while intoxicated. Furthermore, he had accelerated just before reaching the stop line.

Low’s legal representative acknowledged that this was his first encounter with the law and emphasized his client’s deep remorse for the tragedy that unfolded.

MAN STRESSED THAT GF KEEPS WANTS TO GET MARRIED AND BUY A HDB

0

Hi everyone! Any advice here? Been together with my gf for more than 3 years and she has already started work for more than a year while I’m in my final year.

However, she kept wanting me to marry her and get a resale flat. The thing is, I haven’t started work and her pay and cpf isn’t enough to pay back the HDB loan if we are to get a resale now.

I always tell her about the financials and how much money is needed to get married, repair and renovate a resale house, and how much it cost to get a resale mature estate.

She doesn’t seems to care and don’t think about the money aspect. She feels money will drop from the sky, money is not an issue, and I just want to wait because I don’t want to marry her.

I do but I get stressed out over money issues. Haven’t start work yet, how to afford? I’m from a low income family, how can I even ask my parents to help me with financials when I want them to retire when I graduate this year? Help…

Here are what netizens think:

Hi! Just to share with you my personal experience! I’m in the same situation as you but opposite. I’m working for a year already while my gf is in final year. We decided to buy a resale and we just did! So I’m just going to share with you a few reasons for you to digest! No right and wrong but yeah~~~

1) you being a student while she worked for a year already qualifies both of you for the enhanced cpf grant! By the time you join her in the workforce, if your total combined income is more than 9k, you are not eligible for the grant. This grant ranges from 5k to 80k depending on combined income.

2) for resale flats, there are 2 other grants which is proximity grant and family grant. Now, there’s a difference between resale and bto’s proximity grant. Resale’s proximity grant is in terms of money while bto’s is in terms of additional ballot.

3) total grant receive can be up to 180k. Now all these grants will need to be paid back into your own cpf account in future with accrued interest. (You gotta find out by yourself by calling HDB/CPF)

4) now, only your gf is eligible to take a loan to purchase the house. With only her income, the maximum loan she can take will be way lower as compared to a couple that’s both working. What does this means? This means if you loan lesser, your monthly installment is lesser. Just as an example, if your loan amount only entitles you all to get a 3 room flat (inclusive of grants), every month, each of you may just have to pay 400-600 monthly installment. If both of you decided to get it when both of you are working, loan amount will increase which means there might be a chance you all can get a 5room flat. But monthly installment for each of you may double. So it’s really up to both of you to plan your finances.

5) it is possible to not use a single cent while getting resale if you don’t aim for too big a house as your first house (due to grants and loans).

6) there’s a lot to consider but last but not least, you 2 have to come to an agreement whether to purchase and think about the finances if you do purchase it now. Will she be willing to pay the monthly installment by herself first till you get a job? Are you all willing to renovate the house slowly? Because renovation is another huge cost! Also, getting resale means you 2 have to ROM within half a year upon getting the keys.

Personally, we decided to get because for long term wise, we calculated it and we would be having an advantage by taking the grants early. But, it’s really a committment and a lot of planning is involved. So yup! Discuss with her and understand if her reason she suggested this is because she have calculated everything and it’s feasible or if it’s just her want? Feel free to research using HDB website or spam call them to understand. That’s what we did

MAN STUCK: PARENT’S FINANCIAL PROBLEM BECOME HIS PROBLEM

0

Dear all, i am in a dilemma, would appreciate if u can advise

My parents are considering refinancing their rental property and transferring the loan responsibilities to me. The property generates rental income, which means I would only need to contribute around $1,000 per month towards the loan installment. However, in the event that the investment property is sold, any profits would be retained by them. (Perhaps they might provide me with a nominal amount.)

Honestly, I am reluctant to proceed with this arrangement as it hinder my plans of acquiring a property together with my significant other. Nonetheless, I am also aware that this could alleviate some of the financial burden on my parents.

Here are what netizens think:

  • They should just sell if they cannot afford, since it is for rental. When it comes to money, the boundaries need to be clear to avoid future disputes.
  • Just discuss with them on giving them more allowance instead of taking on the ownership or placing the loan in your name. Maybe work on a compromise, $500-$800 a month, whatever you can afford. They can then use the money to pay for whatever loan there is. Tell them you do not want the ownership as it affects your buyer stamp duty. Win-win.
  • Why are they transferring it to you now? Do they have issues repaying the loan? You don’t have any commitment now, so 1k a month sounds easy, but what about 5, 10 years down the road? That 1k may not look like a small sum when you have your own place and family. Without knowing more, I’ll say don’t. They can’t even repay it in their time what makes you think you can shoulder theirs and your own?
  • It will screw u royally big time on loans for your own home and eligibility for all sorts of grants and give outs. So dont.
  • Lmao dont take other peoples loan responsibilities. Thats like…. personal finance 101
  • They’re worried that if you sell, your other half might be eyeing it or even you might be splurging the cash. Assuming you don’t sell, $1k/mth is relatively cheap for a private property which may end up being yours. Do it if the property is in a nice location and the size is right. Just ask them what if you end up staying there till you’re old or they kick the bucket early. From there, you can understand their real intention.

BADGE LADY QUESTIONS SECURITY GUARD IN COURT, SAYS CCTV FOOTAGE OF HER COULD BE EDITED

0

Security officers from ION Orchard testified in court on 24 May against Phoon Chiu Yoke, the infamous Badge Lady as she is more commonly referred to by online netizens.

Phoon, appearing in a black blazer, white shirt, and black skirt, chose to represent herself in contesting four charges. These charges included not wearing a mask on two occasions along Orchard Road, once in ION Orchard, and failing to attend an investigation by the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) in 2022.

During the trial, two ION Orchard security officers and a service ambassador were called as witnesses by the prosecution. Both security officers were on duty on August 16, 2022, when it was alleged that Phoon did not wear a mask within the shopping mall.

CCTV footage shown

The first security officer testified that he observed Phoon not wearing a mask while she was riding an escalator from level three to level two near the Patek Philippe store. In court, CCTV footage was shown, depicting the security officer approaching Phoon and advising her to wear a mask.

However, she ignored his advice and continued on her way. The security officer confirmed that he did not witness Phoon eating, drinking, or consuming any medication during that time.

Asked guard how he knows she wasn’t eating lozenges

During the cross-examination, Phoon requested the security officer to repeat what he had said to her. He responded by saying, “Can you please wear your mask?” Phoon further inquired about signage at the entrance regarding mask-wearing, but the security officer stated that he couldn’t recall.

Phoon then questioned how the security officer knew she was not eating since he approached her from behind. The officer explained that he saw her turn around to look at him. Phoon retorted by asking if they had a conversation, to which the officer replied, “No.”

Phoon then asked the officer if he was certain that she was not eating, consuming medication, or sucking on lozenges. She also raised the question of whether not wearing a mask for 39 seconds constituted a significant offense and why she wasn’t asked to leave immediately if it was.

The security officer explained that they would first advise shoppers to put on their masks before requesting them to leave. Phoon concluded her cross-examination by asserting that she had put on a mask “39 seconds later” and highlighting the security officer’s uncertainty about the presence of signage in the mall.

Claims CCTV footage could’ve been edited

Subsequently, a second security officer and a service ambassador took the stand. They were responsible for extracting CCTV footage that depicted Phoon’s activities in ION Orchard on August 16. The prosecution presented and played most of the 24 CCTV footage, which showed Phoon walking around without a mask.

The videos revealed Phoon entering ION Orchard through the connected passageway from Wheelock Place, moving through the mall, and then descending from level four.

During the cross-examination of the second security officer, Phoon raised doubts about the authenticity of the videos, suggesting that they might have been tampered with. She questioned whether the security officer had compared the extracted and saved video with the “raw footage” within the system, emphasizing that the videos were not adequately protected.

The security officer replied that he hadn’t performed a second-by-second comparison but believed that the video he extracted was the same as the raw footage. Phoon continued to assert that technology could be used to edit the videos and add additional figures, arguing that the video was vulnerable to manipulation from the moment the thumb drive left the security officer’s possession.

The trial is set to continue, with more witnesses expected to testify against Phoon. In a previous phase, social media personality Wendy Cheng, also known as Xiaxue, and her cameraperson provided testimony against Phoon. One of their videos captured Phoon walking without a mask in the background. The prosecution intends to present additional witnesses to support their case against Phoon.

If found guilty of failing to wear a mask when required, the penalties can include up to a year of imprisonment, a fine of up to S$20,000, or both. These penalties apply to repeat offenders as well.

It is worth noting that Phoon had previously received a 16-week jail sentence in September 2021 for similar mask-wearing offenses.

MAN SAID: “WIFE’S STANDARD DROPPED, DIDN’T BOTHER TO SHOWER FOR A WEEK”

My wife did not shower for a week

My wife became a different person after marriage and worse after having our kid.

After marriage, she stopped dressing nicely. She wears the same T-shirt and jeans all the time. When she got pregnant, she stopped putting on any makeup. Now after having our kid, she only showers once every 2 days. Her reason is that she’s tired. Things turned from bad to worse. Recently she did not shower for a week. She also cut her hair short, so she looks like a tomboy now and has gained a lot of weight from when we first met. The way she talks has changed too. Nowadays, she is either screaming at my kid or complaining about life. This is all very negative. She was no longer bubbly and cheerful.

To be honest, I am not very handsome. I know I have no right to expect my wife to look like a model. But the truth is SHE HAS BECOME A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT PERSON and I feel cheated. I try to find reasons to continue feeling attracted to her but I struggle every day.

I feel love for the mother of my child, but not attraction.

My female friends say it’s because I cannot afford the standard of living that will allow her to upkeep her ‘looks’ and ‘youth’. It’s normal for a woman like her to turn “auntie” in my situation. Perhaps they are right, maybe if I could afford a maid and she could stop working and get help with our kid, then she could look like one of those rich guy’s sugar babies. Even then, I couldn’t understand why other wives could have it all together and mine just doesn’t care and has given up.

Here are what netizens think:

  • Did u help her with the responsibility load she’s carrying at home? Kids, house chores n cooking? If no, then start to make a change from there because I believe you’re evaluating your problem at the wrong direction.
  • Share the housework & responsibility of taking carebof kids together, let her have her ‘me’ time on some days, get her small little gifts or words as token of appreciation, bring her out for dates just 2 of you…good luck brother!
  • Perhaps it’s time to make her feel like doing so. Some do so by offloading their wives boring household chores a little. Or bringing them out for nice events where they need to dress up. Find a babysitter once in a while.

MAN SAY WORK SO HARD FOR WHAT: END OF DAY ALSO BECOME A4 SIZE PHOTO ON TABLE

0

Penning down my thoughts that came to me over the last few days.

Time is a finite resource that myself take it for granted as its not a tangible item unlike any collectible or money itself. Using any collectible item say the triple logoman of LeBron James sports card is rare because it’s one of kind and it contain 3 pieces of game memories of the player. Drawing that example, I should treat time as the same as its unique for everyone and it’s a finite resource be it 40 years, 60 years or 100 years.

Time is definitely a more important resource then money however can’t deny the fact that money can possibly be use to extend time be it medcial accesses, quality of food and life. However it is a means to an end.

What do we do with our time will define us as individuals. However why is it important to have ourselves defined in this world? 99% of us will most probably end up as a picture in a frame on a table as time passes and forgotten in decades or centuries after our passing.

I personnelly feel it is important to touch the lives of people around us on a daily basis especially to people who I have yet to know but am close vicinity. It can be a simple gesture as offering a cold drink to a security guard on a hot day or chocolate sweets to the cleaners or even lend a helping hand to a working colleague.

It doesn’t matter if we leave behind a legacy or accumulation of physical assets. At the end of the day, we are all alive to help each other make our lives more enjoyable and better. This has been the case since the beginning of time. Only now we use money to quantify and motivate these help such as food purchases, housing etc.

It is also important to recognize that we are responsible to others, who will be born into this world in the future way after we are gone, a livable world.

Every small ripple will create a big wave centuries down the road. Be it food wastage, air pollution, water contamination etc.

To conclude, move forward in life regardless of fear or confusion. We only have one life and the path doesn’t have to be the same for everyone. It is what we do in our journey that will carry us into distant future and for future of others.

POLICE NSF MOLESTED WOMAN THEN FORGED MCs & WENT AWOL, PLEADS GUILTY IN COURT

0

A 20-year-old Police NSF molested a woman by touching her private parts, before receiving his national service posting to a police division 3 months later.

However, instead of reporting for duty, the NSF forged several medical certificates (MCs) and went absent without leave, according to The Straits Times.

The 20-year-old perpetrator cannot be named due to a court order to protect the victim’s identity, and he pleaded guilty on Wednesday (24 April) to charges of molestation, forgery, and a violation of the Police Force Act.

According to Deputy Public Prosecutor Yvonne Poon, “Investigations revealed that the accused avoided going to work due to his deep shame regarding the ongoing investigations into his offenses, and he simply wished to remain at home.”

The man and the 21-year-old victim were classmates during their secondary school years from 2015 to 2018. They reconnected in September 2021 through social media and grew closer as friends.

DPP Poon stated, “The victim considered him to be one of her closest friends and confided in him about various aspects of her life, including work and dates with individuals she met through social media and dating apps. Their relationship was strictly platonic, and both parties were aware of this.”

On July 17, 2022, they spent the night at a friend’s residence. While the woman was asleep, the offender, who was lying beside her, inappropriately touched her private areas. She woke up in shock.

She refused to engage with him, wrapping a blanket around herself and turning away as she used her phone to book a ride home.

Later, she disclosed the incident to a male acquaintance, who promptly informed the police around 6 am the following day. The offender was subsequently apprehended.

Court records do not provide details of subsequent events, but on October 21, 2022, he was assigned to a police division and expected to commence his national service duties there.

According to DPP Poon, the offender’s supervisor was aware of the ongoing investigations into his offences. However, following his posting, the offender frequently claimed to be unwell and irregularly reported for work.

He disregarded requests from his supervisor to submit his MCs and provide documentation for his absences.

On February 22, 2023, the supervisor visited the offender’s residence to retrieve the MCs but discovered that the documents did not cover multiple days that month.

The offender alleged that he had accidentally discarded the physical copies of the MCs.

Subsequently, on February 28, he forwarded the MCs with altered dates to the supervisor via WhatsApp.

The court has ordered assessments to determine the offender’s suitability for probation and reformative training.

Young offenders undergoing reformative training are detained in a facility where they follow a strict routine that may involve physical drills and counselling.

The case has been adjourned until June 19,
