MAN FED UP WITH PEOPLE WHO OWE MONEY THEN KEEP GIVING EXCUSES OR DRAG REPAYMENT

0

I am fed up! I’ve been through this too many times and it seems like all the people who I lent some money to before have this problem.

I need to constantly chase them for the money, become like I owe them instead

I’ve been lending money to friends and family for years, always trying to help out when I can. But what I’ve noticed is that the people I’ve been helping out have started to become complacent and forgetful when it comes to returning the money.

It’s like they take it for granted that I am going to be there for them whenever they need me, but when it comes to them paying me back, they don’t seem to think twice about it. They don’t realize that I could use that money too.

I’m not a bottomless pit of money! It’s not like I can just keep giving out loans and expecting nothing in return.

It’s not just friends and family either. I’ve had some bad experiences with business partners and colleagues as well. I’ve lent money to some of them in order to help them out in a pinch, and they had promised to pay it back on time.

But then they conveniently forget about it, or worse, they don’t even bother to respond to my reminders.

Worst is that the amount of money that I have loaned out and still have not gotten back due to all these people amounts up to 5 figures!

Some of them not only give many excuses, but act blur

It’s like all these people think that it’s perfectly okay to not pay me back on time, or even at all. It’s really starting to get on my nerves and it’s making me really angry.

Some of them can also totally act blur like they forgot that they have borrowed money from me.

I’ve tried to be understanding and patient, but it seems like all my efforts have been in vain.

I understand that life can be tough sometimes and people can struggle financially. But I also think that it’s important for people to be respectful of others and to not take them for granted.

If someone takes a loan from me, then I expect them to pay it back on time. It’s the least they can do to show their appreciation.

At this point, I’m getting so sick and tired of having to chase people for money which I previously lent to them to help them out.

It feels like all these people do not appreciate or have the courtesy to return the money on time.

S’PORE WOMAN WON $13K FROM YOUTUBER MRBEAST’S B’DAY GIVEAWAY, 1 OUT OF 10 IN THE WORLD

0

On 8 May earlier this week, YouTube megastar MrBeast recently held a giveaway on his Instagram page to celebrate his birthday on 7 May, announcing that he would be giving away US$10,000 (or SGD$13,257) to 5 random people, out of almost 40 million of his followers.

For context, MrBeast’s number of followers amounts to more than the combined population of both Singapore and Malaysia.

All the participants had to do were follow @mrbeast on Instagram, share his Instagram post on their own Instagram stories and tag someone in the comments section.

The giveaway was open to the whole world, excluding New York.

However, the initial post was taken down Instagram, and MrBeaast then said that it was no issue because his team had been saving the names.

And he then updated his giveaway and said that he would be giving US$10,000 to 10 people this time instead of the 5 originally announced.

MrBeast then announced the ten winners of the giveaway, posting screenshots of the winners’ Instagram accounts on his Instagram story and tagging them in it.

A Singaporean visual and graphics designer, Sheryl Tan (@meyyen_) became 1 out of the 10 winners of the giveaway after the winners were announced.

Tan then reposted the story about her win and said that she was hyperventilating when she found out about it.

The biggest YouTuber on the platform

MrBeast is the online identity of 25-year-old online American content creator Jimmy Donaldson, who is the most subscribed YouTuber on the video sharing platform, with more than 150 million subscribers (discounting the other YouTube channels run by corporations).

He is estimated to have earned US$54 million from his videos and businesses in 2021 and an estimated US$110 million last year.

Some of his acts of generosity include tipping service staff at eateries $10,000, giving away cars, houses and even entire islands.

WOMAN WANTED TO BUY “6517” FOR 4D BUT DIDN’T REGISTER ACCOUNT IN TIME, END UP COME OUT 1ST PRIZE

0

TikTok user @sirbentleyp shared how she wanted to buy a set of 4D numbers from the Singapore Pools online betting service but didn’t manage to register her account in time – her numbers ended up being the first prize of the lottery.

She posted a video about her experience on TikTok, captioning it “brb (be right back), crying,” and said that she was having drinks with two of her colleagues at two different places, with the final bill at both places coming up to exactly $167.51.

They then took it to be a sign from the universe (or the god of fortune) and decided to buy 1,6,7,5 using all the possible permutations (iBet) for the 4D draw over the weekend.

She said in a text message to her colleagues that if she wins, she will “throw letter”, implying that she would quit her job if she won.

Bentley then tried to register for an online Singapore Pools account on 5 May for the upcoming 4D draws on 6 and 7 May, but found out that the account application would take 2 days to be processed.

She then received a notification that her Singapore Pools online account was activated on 6 May at 8.58pm, which was already passed the 4D draw timing.

She then went to check on the winning 4D numbers for the day and realised that her numbers had come in first prize for that draw.

Netizens commented on her video and asked why she didn’t just head down to a Singapore Pools physical outlet to place her bets since she knew her account would take 2 days to activate.

Netizens’ comments

FILIPINO’S SPORE PR APPLICATION REJECTED 12 TIMES, FEELS HE’S UNDER VALUED HERE

0

13 years in Singapore…12 times PR application got rejected

Context

I have been working as a Senior Programmer in Singapore since 2009 and my first PR application was rejected in 2011, and I have been rejected every year since then.

During my time here, I have contributed a lot, especially with the work I have done, paying taxes on time, trained locals about the digital industry, and even helping create digital campaigns for events such as NDP, list goes on.

What am I missing and what do I need to do to approve the application?

Sometimes I feel regret, if I had served longer in another country they might appreciate it more and I would probably be a citizen now.

I’m Filipino living in Singapore for 13 years and 8 months. My 12th application got rejected last year, any thoughts?

Here are what netizens think

  • only re-apply when there is a substantial change in your circumstances. for example getting married to a local, a huge pay raise or owning assets. every time you reapply with the same parameters just makes your case weaker.
  • The whole point is to prove to the Immigration officer that you are here to stay. What are your sunk roots?

Community programmes only form one part of things. And all the things you did, aren’t they during the course of work or are they on a volunteer basis? Have you transferred all your monies here, bought a property etc?
  • Me and partner have been in Singapore since 2008 and also have about 11 rejected applications. My partner works in one of Singapore’s national universities as a senior instructor, I own a company here for a decade now (B2B working with local companies), we have a kid literally born here and still nothing.

We used to do applications with attached local certificates, recommendation letters from companies, friends, institutions, even certifications of charity work for local gov… We pay taxes, have savings, don’t travel out for more than a week a year (if that!), and still it’s a big fat no.

WOMAN CLIMBED OUT OF WINDOW @ JALAN BESAR BROTHEL DUE TO STUCK DOOR, ARRESTED

A woman who was previously seen stuck outside a window ledge on the third floor of a building at 317 Jalan Besar.

The unit that she was stuck outside has since been revealed to be an illegal brothel that she was working in, and she was arrested before being charged.

The 38-year-old Thai national Sukphansa Jongdee pleaded guilty to living on the earning of the prostitution of a woman, with another charge of overstaying in Singapore for 56 days being considered during her sentencing

She was sentenced to 8 weeks imprisonment for her offences.

Passerby noticed she was stranded & called police for help

A woman was seen stranded on a window ledge on the third storey of a shophouse on the morning of 8 April at about 9.30 am, at 317 Jalan Besar.

A netizen shared that she was passing by the area when she spotted the woman standing on the window ledge and asked her if she required any help.

She asked the woman if she was okay and whether she needed her to call the police, but the woman kept telling her no and rejecting her help.

The netizen said that she could tell that the woman was not local by the way she spoke and despite her rejection, she went ahead and called the police.

The police soon arrived shortly after along with the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), and they managed to bring the woman back to safety.

The SCDF said that they had received a call for help on 8 April at about 10 am, along 317 Jalan Besar at a shophouse unit.

When SCDF officers arrived at the scene, they found a person standing on a ledge outside the window of a third-floor unit and they conducted forced entry into the unit.

They managed to get the woman back safely into the unit with the help of the police, and there were also no injuries reported in the incident.

Brothel

It was later revealed that the unit the woman was stuck in was a brothel and she was arrested and charged in court for working there as a cleaner.

She had climbed out of the bedroom window because she accidentally locked herself inside the room due to a faulty door lock.

After the police rescued her, they found condoms and lubricants inside the unit, and one of the prostitutes working there confessed to providing explicit services.

Overstayed in Singapore

Jongdee had arrived in Singapore from Thailand on a visit pass on 11 January this year, declaring that she was here for leisure despite intending to work here illegally.

She managed to get a job as a cleaner at various pubs through a person called “Wan”, and allegedly lost her passport before the expiration of her visit pass.

She then decided to stay here to earn more money through her illegal work, when a female vice syndicate member named “One” then hired her in late March to work as a cleaner for illegal brothels.

Her duties included running errands for the prostitutes, cleaning the premises and collecting earnings from two different brothels in Jalan Besar and Orchard.

She was paid $100 every time the prostitution earnings were collected and given accommodation at the illegal brothel in Orchard.

She worked with at least 4 prostitutes and helped with depositing the earnings in the mailbox of the Jalan Besar brothel, as well as keeping records of the prostitutes clients.

GIRL SAYS MEN ARE DOUBLE STANDARD, EXPECT GIRLS TO HAVE NO ‘FOREST’ BUT OWNSELF LIKE ‘RAINFOREST’

0

Something that really irks me is the double standards that men have when it comes to our ‘down there’.

Men always expect a girl to be ‘clean’, but most of them themselves are like ‘rainforests’

They expect us girls to be clean shaven and waxed, but many of them don’t shave or wax themselves. It’s like they think that because they’re men, they don’t have to adhere to the same standards.

This double standard is something that I’ve noticed in my own relationships and also in the relationships of many of my friends.

Most of the men that I am with before always want us to be perfectly groomed down there, but they don’t feel the same obligation to maintain their own grooming habits.

I’m sure I am not the only girl that wants my partner to be clean down there also, it just makes everything more enjoyable without needing to worry about the hair getting in the way when our partners and us are having a good time together.

If they don’t shave and don’t make comments about us, it is still fine

If the guy is clean and makes comments about us being unclean or like a ‘forest’, I guess that is still okay because they make the effort to keep themselves spotless.

What irks me the most is if they do not do anything about their grooming and make so much noise about us.

They’ll make comments about how they “prefer” us to be clean shaven, but then when we confront them about their own ‘forests’, they just brush it off.

Many of them also like to point out that it is normal for men to have hair because society finds it alright but when a women has hair, society thinks its disgusting.

I just wish there isn’t so much double standards when it comes to this.

MAN PARKED HIS CAR @ SEMBAWANG CAR PARK, COMES BACK & FINDS PAINT ON IT

0

My car was parked at the MSCP beside my block in the Sembawang GRC. My estate is undergoing some renovation works which includes rectification works at the MSCP and the painting of the blocks in my estate.

On 15 of December 2022 which is a Thursday, I parked my car in the lot near the washing bay of my MSCP. I notice a group of workers mixing paint right beside the lot where my car is parked. I assume that they are the painters doing the painting for the blocks in my estate. On Friday evening when I came back to my car, I noticed my car had paint spots all over it. My car is black in colour so it was very obvious. My first thought was the painters who were mixing paint at the lot where my car was parked the previous day.

Since it was Friday evening, I contacted Sembawang Town Council the very next Monday to report the damage to my car. I received a call from Sembawang Town Council staff a few days later telling me that the project is under HDB purview and she already forwarded my complaint to the Sembawang HDB branch. I waited for one month but nobody from HDB contacted me regarding my complaint.

I went down to my MSCP to find the contact number of the project manager of the renovation works being done at the MSCP. I WhatsApp the project manager on 1st of Feb 2023. I told him about my case and he said he would look into it. I received an email from one of the contractors asking a staff from HDB to follow up on an email sent on 11 Jan 2023. I was cc in the email. Two HDB officers were in the email loop.

After one week of no response, I sent an email reply to this email asking for an update on 9 Feb 2023. I stated in this email that my car lease had expired and I would need to return the car to the rental company but I could not do so because of the paint damage. I am incurring weekly rental and the season parking for this car. Nobody in the email loop replied. After three weeks of waiting, on 22 Feb 2023, I sent another email asking them for an update and also received no reply from anyone in the email loop. Apparently HDB officers couldn’t be bothered with my case.

I waited until 14 of March and I called the HDB hotline to ask for an update on my case. The very day on 15 March, I received a call from a HDB staff telling me that he had taken over the case from the previous officer and he needed time to investigate. I told him ok and I would wait for his reply. This officer also went MIA and I did not receive a single reply.

On 5 April 2023, I went down to meet my MP Ong Ye Kung at the MPS and explained my situation to him. He helped draft a letter to HDB asking them to look into my case. The very next day on 6 April 2023, I received a call from one of the contractors asking to discuss my case. I told the contractor to ask HDB to find a solution and not keep asking me details about the case which I have provided to them 4 months ago.

Nothing was heard from the contractor or HDB until 13 April 2023 when I received an email from a Senior Estate Manager from HDB that he is looking into my case and needs more time to respond. After this nothing was heard again from HDB. On 3 May 2023, a General Manager from HDB sent an email stating that the contractor would be contacting me regarding the damage done to my car.

I waited until 8 May 2023 when I finally received a call from the contractor. To my surprise, the contractor told me that they could not find the person who was responsible for damaging my car. There is no evidence that it is the workers from their company that did the paint damage to my car. I told the contractor that there are only two groups of people doing paint works at the estate and who else could have done the paint damage to my car. They would be offering to polish my car out of goodwill instead. I rejected their offer straight away and told them that I would be filing claims for my rentals payments and season parking. The contractor told me straight that my claim would not go through even if I tried. I told the contractor that if I knew this would happen, I would have gone to the police and made a report about it. They would have gotten the CCTV from the carpark to see what actually happened but after 4 months, I think the CCTV footage would have been long over written. The contractor then said he would tell HDB my response and ask me to again wait for a reply from HDB. Another round of the waiting game.

After nearly 4 months and one week, I got this reply. The HDB took 4 months to come up with this reply. They are inefficient or really incompetent. They took 4 whole months to investigate and my case got passed around to god knows who many HDB officers. I didn’t know that HDB officers were this inefficient and not once in the 4 months did they reply or updated me. It was only when I went to see my MP that I got a conclusion to my case.

If I knew that HDB was this inefficient, I would have bear the polishing cost right at the start and settle it myself. After 4 months of waiting, the paint would have eaten into my car body paint. I have to bear the rental cost of my car during this period when I could have return the car to the rental company in Feb 2023.

I have attached some pictures of the paint spots that are all over my car. I have all the email and whatsapp conversations with the contractor and HDB if further verification on my story is needed.

WOMAN BOUGHT $900 BAG OVERSEAS BUT PAYMENT PENDING, CALL FOR HELP & GOT $100 BILL FOR OVERSEAS CALL

0

Facebook user Geraldine Huang shared how she was in Korea for a holiday when she bought a $900 bag with her YouTrip card.

However the merchant didn’t receive the money and the transaction was still pending, and they wouldn’t give the bag to her until the transaction went through.

Huang then checked the YouTrip app and found out that she had to wait 8 days for a resolution outcome on the transaction, but she had a flight to catch on the same day.

She then called their Singapore-based customer service hotline and eventually got her refund, but she later found a bill of $100 incurred for overseas call charges.

Here is what she said

I am a very unhappy customer of youtrip and their customer service cannot seem to resolve this issue.

I was in Korea from 23rd to 28th Mar 2023. On the last day of my trip, I went to purchase a SGD 900+ MCM bag . The transaction was pending but the merchant says it did not received the funds and would not release the bag to me.

I checked youtrip app, had to wait for 8 days for outcome (no gaurantee there is a refund) but I’m leaving Korea on that day! What if I just left, amount deducted, no bag and youtrip don’t refund me?

There was no option for live chat and I could only send an email. I sent immediately hoping for a reply. Waited for 30mins or so but there was no reply. I had a plane to catch and I couldn’t stay to wait any longer.

I think anyone in my situation would have no choice but to make a call to customer service which was exactly what i did. Their customer service was a sg no.

After the call back to sg, refund was done immediately but $100 bill was incurred for overseas call charges.

I DO NOT think this is fair for me to bear the charges since its youtrip/merchant transaction/IT issues.

Called up to customer service again when I’m back in sg, they tried to push the blame to say I could have just emailed them instead of call. That way, the charges will not be incurred! I have tried, it doesnt work, and fact is, it’s only after the call the prob is resolved.

When escalated to manager, her exact words in email was that I was informed from the start of the call that the wait will be 20 mins. In other words, I could have just hang up since I knw that overseas calls will be expensive.

Their compensation will be $20 and not the full $100. So am I supposed to just suck it up ?!

WOMAN FOUND RUBBER BAND INSIDE HER DUMPLINGS FROM 1 MICHELIN STAR STALL @ CHINATOWN

0

Facebook user Yvonne Soh shared how she had purchased a box of frozen dumplings from a stall in Chinatown, which has a 1-star Michelin rating.

She said that when she boiled the dumplings for lunch, she allegedly found rubber bands inside one of the dumpling pieces.

She warned others to check the dumplings by opening them before eating, because “we don’t know what additional ingredients may be inside”.

She also emphasized on how she will not be patronising from that stall again, despite it’s 1-star Michelin rating.

Here is what she said

Last week, I bought a box of frozen dumplings from a stall in Chinatown Complex Food Centre.

During lunch today, I boiled the dumplings and found rubber bands in one of them.

It is important to remember to open the dumplings before eating them because we don’t know what additional ingredients may be inside.

I will not be buying from this stall again, even though it has a Michelin one-star rating.

Other cases of foreign objects in foods

Roach in Wantan Mee

Facebook user Jeffrey Linus Lee shared how his parents had patronised a Wantan Mee stall at Koufu located at Toa Payoh Central on 26 April at about 8.39pm.

He said that his mother found a “foreign object” in her noodles and after taking a closer look at it, realised that it was a cockroach.

She then confronted the hawker about her find and the hawker then in turn accused her of allegedly putting the cockroach there herself.

Lee said that his mother asked the hawker why would she put a cockroach in her own food and the hawker then allegedly threatened and shouted at her to lodge a complaint.

Lee also said that the hawker accused his mother of planting the roach in her food to get a refund.

Roach in roasted pork rice

A netizen shared how he bought a packets of roasted pork rice from a coffeeshop and found a live cockroach crawling inside his food.

He bought a packet chicken and roasted pork rice with an additional braised egg and upon reaching home, opened his food packet ready to tuck in.

Howeber, he noticed something brown on top of his meat and realised that it was a small cockroach crawling across the food and standing on top of one of the roasted pork.

Lester then recorded the cockroach with his phone before closing the lid of the rice to prevent the cockroach from escaping.

He then went back to the staff where he bought his food from and told them about what happened, and the surprised staff then offered him a refund.
