GRAB INCREASING PLATFORM FEE TO 70 CENTS FROM 5 MAY ONWARDS, UPPED BY 40 CENTS

0

Grab is set to increase their platform fee from 30 cents to 70 cents, up by 40 cents, in a move that’s being described as being in line and trying to keep up with their competition.

The new increased platform fees will kick in from 5 May onwards.

At the moment, the current platform fee still stands at 30 cents for every trip, including the recently reintroduced GrabShare.

Grab defended their decision to raise their platform fees in an email sent out to customers, saying that the extra fees go towards supporting the development of improvements to their app, as reported by The Straits Times.

Among the improvements to their app include benefits to the drivers, safety features and increased reliability; and the mail also shared some of the ways that they are trying to improve on their shortage of drivers.

The company is trying to solve the shortage of drivers by recruiting them through new joiner and referral program schemes, as well as introducing technology-enabled features such as “Hotspot Navigation”, which will let the drivers see where there are a higher demand for Grab passengers.

The fare priced will then surge lesser once more drivers head to the areas with higher demand for passengers, and the customers can then get their rides faster.

According to Grab’s trial run of the new feature, the results have apparently been rather positive so far.

According to Channel NewsAsia, other ride hailing companies such as Gojek and Tada are also implementing the same platform prices, with Gojek charging a platform fee of 70 cents for each trip, while TADA is charging a platform fee of 55 cents for trips up to $18 followed by 75 cents for trips above that.

Alternatively, there is also Ryde, which charges a 30 cent platform fee; and Comfort DelGro’s taxi booking app which charges no platform fee, $0.00.

WOMAN DIVORCED HUSBAND THEN ASKS PHOTOGRAPHER FOR REFUND ON WEDDING PHOTOS

0

A wedding photographer shared screenshots of a conversation with a client, whom he helped to take wedding photos of 4 years ago, asking him for a refund after the couple divorced, saying she doesn’t need those photos anymore.

The conversation started off with the woman reaching out to the photographer via WhatsApp, asking him if he still remembers her from the wedding 4 years ago.

Thinking the woman was just reaching out to catch up, the photographer relayed his well wishes to her and asked how could he be of service to her.

The woman the revealed that she is not divorced with her husband and doesn’t need those wedding photos anymore, praising him for the wonderful job he did with the photos.

However, she then added that “i will need a refund of the amount we paid you” because she doesn’t need the photos anymore and that the photos are going to waste.

Thinking it was a joke, the photographer asked the woman if she was joking and she duly told him “no dear I’m very serious.”

The photographer then told the woman that he was very sorry to hear that the woman and her husband are divorcing, but stood firm and told her that he cannot refund her the money for his services rendered 4 years ago.

He told the woman “photography is a none refundable service” and that he can’t refund her the money because he can’t “untake the pictures”.

The insistent woman remained adamant that she was entitled to a refund because in the contract, it was not stated that she can’t get a refund.

The photographer then called the woman out for being embarrassing and maintained that he would not be making any refunds to the woman, who then threatened him with legal action, saying that he will be hearing from her lawyer.

DEE KOSH INSISTS HE’S NOT A PAEDOPHILE, STAYING AWAY FROM PLAYGROUNDS NOW

0

Disgraced former radio deejay Dee Kosh, who was previously convicted of offences against underaged boys in August 2022 and has since served a prison sentence of 32 weeks, has released a tell-all video on Rumble and insisted that he is not a paedophile.

In the 51-minute long video, Dee Kosh, whose real name is Darryl Ian Koshy, revealed in detail about his case and said that he was not able to tell his story, and that it was a “horrible, horrible, terrible thing to be labelled a paedophile”.

He added that he “wouldn’t wish it on (his) worst enemy” and that it is “something (he) will have to live with for the rest of (his) life” because when people Google his name, that’s the first thing that comes out.

Kosh said that he was assessed by a psychiatrist who concluded that he had no signs of pedophilic disorder(s) and that the risk of him reoffending was very low.

He said that now, he is wary of being with younger people, even his cousins, and made it a point to stay away from playgrounds of even taking the same lift with teenagers.

He said that it’s not that he is attracted to kids, but he just doesn’t want to make other people uncomfortable around him.

On his prison sentence, Kosh said that after the whole safa, he feels like he has “paid (his) penance to society” and that he had done his time and paid the price “more than what the average person would have to pay”.

On why he is speaking about it now, he said that it was his way of telling his side of the story.

He said that he is in a “tough position” where if he doesn’t come out crying, people will say he is not remorseful; but if she comes out crying, people will say he is playing the victim.

Summing up his points, Kosh said that “I don’t know where the end of the tunnel is. But I’d like to believe there is one. I will just have to keep running. There is a light at the end of the tunnel. Sometimes the light cannot even be seen, but just keep running.”

SIAM DIU “MUMMY” QUITS $10K/MONTH JOB TO BECOME HAWKER @ ANG MO KIO KOPITIAM

0

38-year-old Omjai Chanta, a former mamasan at a nightclub in Singapore, quit her job as a siam diu “mummy” to chase her dreams of becoming a hawker instead, according to 8world.

Omjai, who hails from Chiang Mai, Thailand, first came to Singapore back in 2009 to join the nightlife industry, and has now opened a stall at a coffeeshop in Ang Mo Kio selling Thai food.

When she first came to Singapore, she worked at a siam diu for 7 years and eventually became a permanent resident here.

She said that working as a mamasan negatively affected her health because she had to drink whatever alcohol that her customers offered her in order to entertain them, regardless if it was whiskey, champagne or beer.

On top of that, she also had to take care of the other girls who were working at the siam diu, and eventually it all culminated in her having high blood pressure.

She started having doubts about being a mamasan and eventually took the chance to quit the industry when the pandemic stopped the nightlife industry in Singapore.

When restrictions were eventually lifted and nightclubs returned to business, Omjai decided against going back to being a mamasan and chose to open a hawker stall instead.

She forked out $15,000 of her savings and opened a stall at a coffee shop in Ang Mo Kio last year, selling a wide variety of Thai dishes.

She revealed that she has no formal cooking training, but her husband and the siam diu girls at her former nightclub liked her food and she felt more confident in her culinary abilities because of their support.

However, she shared that when she was still working as a siam diu mummy, she could earn up to $10,000 per month, but now as a hawker, there are days where she makes only $100 to $200, and she has harboured the thought of quitting before, but the support from her husband and former colleagues helped her carry on.

Address

Kim Sen Thai Noodle is open from 12 pm to 3 pm and 5.30 pm to 8.30 pm from Tuesday to Sunday (they are closed on Mondays).

They are located at Block 181 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 5, #01-2922, Singapore 560181

The drink that the waitress made, is called an Orikaku, or original cocktail, and it usually contains food items such as fruits of colourful syrups in it.

Mondaiji described the waitress’ act as being “no different from part time job terrorism” and said that what she did was absolutely not acceptable.

The cafe stopped short of naming and identifying the waitress, but said in their statement on Twitter that they were shut for a day to replace all of the drinking glasses inside their store.

The Mondaiji cafe advertises itself online as a place for “bad girls” and “problematic girls” who are the “cutest” to serve customers, with the name of the cafe also roughly translating to “Problem Child Concept Cafe”.

Among their many specialities menu items is the all you can drink menu for about SGD $25.

The shopowner apologised for the incident in a statement and asked for time to clean the store, change the classes and dispose of the alcohol that may have been contaminated with the waitress’ blood, “once again I am very sorry to have cause you trouble this time.”

Japan is known for their different concept cafes, including a ninja themed cafe in Tokyo that was featured in Jay Chou’s travel show J-Style Trip, as well as the famous maid and butler cafes in the Akihabara district.
