CHINA STOPS ISSUING VISAS TO JAPAN & KOREA IN RESPONSE TO THEIR RESTRICTIONS ON CHINA

0

According to Reuters, China has suspended issuing short-term visas to the Japanese and South Korean citizens as part of “reciprocal measures” after the two countries imposed new travel restrictions on travellers from China due to the surge of cases in the country (China).

China reversed their zero-covid policy and reopened its borders on 8 January.

The spokesperson for China’s foreign ministry, Wang Wenbin, said in a press conference on 10 January that “a handful of countries” had “disregarded science, facts and the actual pandemic situation” and took “discriminatory entry restriction measures” that “targeted China”.

He added that China “firmly rejects” these measures and will take “reciprocal measures” in response.

A notice was then released by the Chinese embassy in South Korea, announcing the suspension of visas being issued for South Koreans who plan to visit China.

They also did the same for the China embassy in Japan.

MAN WORKS AT DIU WHERE RICH TAI TAIS FREQUENT, $5,000/SONG TIPS NO PROBLEM

0

It was my first night at the nightclub, and I knew it was going to be different than any other job I had ever had.

I had been approached to come and try to work by one of the shareholders of this particular joint in town.

I had heard the rumors about this place; that the patrons were rich tai tais who were willing to tip exorbitant amounts of money for a song.

I had no idea how true those rumors were until I saw it firsthand.

The club was beautiful. The lights were low, the music was loud, and the drinks were flowing. It was a sight to behold and I was in awe.

I had been hired as a ‘waiter’ and my job was to entertain these rich tai tais and see to their requests.

As the night went on, I could feel the energy in the room. People were chatting, laughing, and having a great time.

I myself was having fun entertaining the rich tai tais who asked for me earlier.

Then came a time when all the ‘waiters’ had to go up to the stage to sing a song for all the patrons in the club.

I was second in line, and as the first guy sang his song, I noticed people with flower garlands walking up to him and hanging it around him.

Those flower garlands had figures written on them and figures ranged from $100 minimally to even $10,000.

At the end of the first guy’s song, he had about $2,000 worth or garlands around him.

Then came my turn to sing and I nervously walked up.

As I sang my song, there were some patrons who tipped me $100 and then I got a shock of my life when the flower girl came up and hanged a $5,000 garland around my neck.

Turns out, it was the rich tai tai whom I was serving who tipped me that amount and I was not even half way through my song!

It was an incredible feeling. I had never made this kind of money before, and I was ecstatic. I felt like I was on top of the world.

As the night went on, I started to realize something else. Many of these women were married. They were coming to the club to escape their everyday lives and maybe even cheat on their husbands and they were willing to pay for it.

At first, I felt guilty.

After a while I thought to myself that then these women were consenting adults and they knew what they were getting into.

They were there because they wanted to be, and they were willing to pay for it.

As the night went on, I became more and more comfortable with the situation. I was making more money than I ever had before, and I was proud of myself for taking a chance and making it work.

I ended up working at the club for a few months.

Of course, some nights I did not make much while some nights I made quite a little.

However, in the duration of that few months, I made more money than I ever could have imagined. I was able to pay off some of my student loans and even put a down payment on a car.

NETIZEN SHARES ANOTHER “MOULDY” HDB BLOCK @ PUNGGOL THAT LOOKS HAUNTED

0

Facebook user James Ng shared a photo of a HDB block at Block 233 Sumang Lane, saying that it looks like a haunted HDB due to the unkempt facade.

This comes in the wake of another netizen previously sharing about a mouldy HDB building in Sengkang that also looked haunted.

Ng said in his Facebook post:

“Stood at one point inside carpark of Blk 233 SUMANG LANE PUNGGOL WEST MSCP. Took few photos of the moulds walls which I can see from here. The estate here is just 6years old. What went wrong the paint HDB contractors are using?

Another soon to be haunted HDB.”

MP Sun Xueling responds

Tender for Matilda Court R&R happening this year. Was in the workplan already. Thanks

HDB Responds

HDB also responded, telling Mothership that they are aware of the moult at the building, and are looking into it.

They said that they used one coat of water-based sealer and 2 coats of algae-resistant emulsion paint on the building and that a 6-year warranty period for external painting is given to the town councils when the blocks are handed over to the town councils for management and maintenance.

They added that the warranty covers defences such as the paint peeling off, discolouration, growth of algae and etcetera.

During the period, the contractor of the building and the paint specialist are also required to fix any defects that are found.

MAN SAYS HE GOES CNY VISITATION FOR GAMBLING SAKE, NOT TO MEET RELATIVES

0

My Chinese New Year visit is something I look forward to every year. However, it’s not for the traditional reasons you would expect.

I’m not excited about the opportunity to see my relatives, but for the chance to make a profit.

You see, I’m a passionate gambler, and Chinese New Year offers me the perfect opportunity to make some money.

To pass time at gatherings, families with elders around would often engage in a friendly few rounds of blackjack while friends from the younger generation may prefer games like Thai baccarat.

Of course, I’m aware of the risks and the potential for losses associated with gambling.

I’m not a high-roller, so I set my limits and stick to them. That way, even if I lose, I won’t be left with too much of a dent in my wallet.

I’m also a big fan of food and Chinese New Year has some of the best dishes you can find. I’m always looking forward to eating the snacks and goodies and cooked food because usually the hosts would whip up a feast.

But of course, at the heart of my Chinese New Year visit is my passion for gambling.

That is the only think I look forward to at every visitation, when the host of the gathering brings out a deck of poker cards and calls for a game.

I’m not a fan of just sitting around and entertaining my relatives and their repetitive questions every year.

There are certain visitations where I would excuse myself from as well, because I know there is no gambling there.

Gambling isn’t for everyone, but for me, it’s a great way to have fun and make some money.

Chinese New Year gives me the perfect opportunity to do both and I’m always excited to take advantage of it.

NETIZEN WARNS OF POSSIBLE ‘SCAMMER’ AT YEW TEE MRT AREA ASKING FOR MONEY

0

A netizen going by the alias of Crystal Teo recently posted on Facebook to share a situation which said happened to her sister.

In her post, she warned about an alleged potential scammer in the Yew Tee MRT area who had approached her sister to ask for directions towards Pasir Ris and Queenstown.

Her sister felt harassed by the man who was dresses in formal attire around the age of 20-30 and therefore did a Paynow of $20 to him.

She said that the man still had the cheek to say that $20 is too little.

Here is what she said

‘Just to inform everyone of a (potential?) scammer in the area.

Some man in his late 20s or 30s in formal attire followed my sister along the traffic junction right outside Yew Tee MRT this evening, asking for directions toward Pasir Ris & Queenstown as he had no money to travel.

My sister felt harassed as he was not letting her leave, thus sent a paynow to this user as he said he had no money for a cab, his parents were broke, etc.

This fella had the cheek to be offended for the ‘small sum’ given.

If he was really in need of money for an urgent situation, we hope the amount given helped with his speedy travels.

However, if this is not an isolated incident, would like to ask for everyone to be on alert for any similar cases, as I’m sure our area has had its fair share of such incidents over the years (I still remember this one uncle who stole my ATM card from right under my nose at the AXS machine)’

RISE IN SCAMS INVOLVING UNPAID BILLS OR FINES, MORE THAN $557K LOST TO SCAMMERS

0

POLICE ADVISORY ON PHISHING SCAMS INVOLVING UNPAID BILLS OR FINES
The Police would like to alert members of the public to a rising trend of phishing scams involving unpaid vehicle-related bills or fines. Since December 2022, at least 317 victims have fallen prey, with total losses amounting to at least $557,000.

Victims of such phishing scams would receive text messages, purportedly from the Land Transport Authority (LTA), notifying them of unpaid bills or fines. Victims would click on a Uniform Resource Locater (URL) link embedded in the messages to view information regarding the alleged bills or fines. Upon clicking on the URL links, victims would be directed to fraudulent websites, where they would be required to provide their credit/debit card details and One Time Passwords (OTPs). Victims only realised that they had been scammed after discovering unauthorised transactions made to their credit or debit cards.

The LTA would like to inform members of the public that LTA does not notify road users of unpaid bills or fines via text messages or request for payments for offence notices, vehicle registration, and licensing matters via URL links embedded in text messages. Instead, members of the public will be asked to check on their outstanding fines and vehicle-related payments on the OneMotoring website. The required payments must be done separately on LTA’s e-payment services, internet banking or at AXS or SAM stations.

The Police would like to advise members of the public to stay vigilant and to adopt these crime prevention measures:

Do not click on URL links provided in these unsolicited text messages;

Always verify the authenticity of the information with the official sources or website;

Never disclose your personal or Internet banking details and OTP to anyone; and

Report any fraudulent transactions to your bank and cancel your card immediately.
If you have information relating to such crimes or if you are in doubt, please call the Police Hotline at 1800-255-0000, or submit it online at www.police.gov.sg/iwitness. Please call ‘999’ if you require urgent Police assistance.

For more information on scams, members of the public can visit www.scamalert.sg or call the Anti-Scam Helpline at 1800-722-6688. Join the ‘Spot the Signs. Stop the Crimes’ campaign at www.scamalert.sg/fight by signing up as an advocate to receive up-to-date messages and share them with your family and friends. 38 Y.O SELF-RADICALISED MOE TEACHER ARRESTED UNDER ISA FOR TERRORISM OFFENCES

0

A 38-year-old Singapore Ministry of Education teacher, Mohamed Khairul Riduan Mohamed Sarip was arrested under the Internal Security Act, after planning to travel to Palestine to carry out armed violence.

K Shanmugam’s Facebook post

[Detention of MOE teacher under ISA]

Mohamed Khairul, an MOE teacher, has been detained under the ISA.

Khairul intended to use his weapons-handling skills and training from NS days for armed combat in Gaza.

He also tried to inculcate segregationist teachings in his children and family members. Fortunately, Khairul did not succeed in radicalising any of his students or the people around him.

Singaporeans can support causes they believe in, including the Palestinian cause, in many legitimate ways. But armed combat, violence, is not acceptable.

Khairul is the first MOE teacher to be detained under the ISA for wanting to pursue armed violence.

Ministry of Home Affairs’ statement

Detention of Self-Radicalised Singaporean Mohamed Khairul Riduan Bin Mohamed Sarip

1.   Mohamed Khairul Riduan bin Mohamed Sarip (Khairul), a 38-year-old teacher with the Ministry of Education, was arrested under the Internal Security Act (ISA) in October 2022.  Khairul was self-radicalised and ready to travel to Gaza, Palestine under the guise of humanitarian aid to join HAMAS and its military wing, the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades (AQB), in armed combat against the Israel Defence Forces (IDF).  Khairul is the second person to be detained under the ISA for wanting to carry out armed violence because he was affected by the Israel-Palestine conflict.1

Pathway to Self-Radicalisation

2.   Khairul’s interest in the Israel-Palestine conflict began in 2007 after he viewed Facebook videos on purported Israeli acts of aggression against Palestinians, including women and children. He developed a strong desire to defend and support the Muslims in Gaza out of deep sympathy for them. His subsequent online research into the Israeli-Palestinian conflict entrenched his belief that the Israelis, particularly the IDF, were oppressing the Palestinians.Khairul was further convinced of the need to engage in armed defence of the Palestinians after he watched videos by radical foreign preachers, Ahmed Deedat and Zakir Naik,2  which discussed the concept of armed jihad in defence of Islam.

3.   Khairul first considered travelling to Gaza in 2012 after coming across a poster on Facebook titled Panggilan Jihad! (Call to Jihad!), which called for volunteers for a humanitarian mission to Gaza.  The poster also indicated that HAMAS and AQB were waiting for the volunteers.  While Khairul did not follow through on his intent in 2012, he would feel compelled to travel to Gaza whenever the conflict escalated – for instance in 2014 and 2021.  He did not eventually do so both times due to then ongoing travel restrictions.3 Nonetheless, Khairul continues to harbour hopes of travelling to Gaza, and admitted that he would be motivated to act should the situation deteriorate further.

Preparations to travel to Gaza for Armed Jihad

4.   Since 2012, Khairul had made preparations to travel to Gaza with the aim of establishing contact with HAMAS and AQB upon his arrival.  He researched travel routes and flights to Gaza, and sought the advice of foreign individuals who were either based in or intended to travel to Gaza.  To avoid security scrutiny, Khairul planned to travel to Gaza under the guise of providing humanitarian aid.

5.   Khairul also researched intensively into HAMAS and AQB, including viewing materials relating to their tactics and operations.  He believed that HAMAS and AQB were the legitimate defenders of the Palestinians and that their acts of violence against the IDF were justified in Islam.  He was willing to abide by any instructions given by HAMAS, including armed combat, kidnapping, and even executing Prisoners of War.  He was confident of applying the weapons-handling skills and fieldcraft acquired during his National Service to engage in armed combat.4 Khairul was certain that he would achieve martyrdom if he were to die while performing armed jihad.  He also attempted to learn Arabic to facilitate communication with HAMAS and AQB soldiers when in Gaza.  He was also willing to provide medical aid to HAMAS and AQB soldiers using the basic first-aid skills he had acquired.

6.   Khairul contemplated being a spokesperson and international recruiter for HAMAS, and was prepared to facilitate the travel of any individuals interested in joining the armed conflict.  He believed that it was his religious obligation to “spread the truth” about the conflict, and intended to report on the situation in Gaza if he managed to travel there.  He was convinced that providing first-hand updates of the conflict on social media would increase the credibility of his postings and encourage others to join HAMAS.

Segregationist Views

7.   Apart from his support for armed violence, Khairul also holds segregationist and hard-line religious beliefs, and had attempted without success to influence his family members and children to hold such views.  For instance, he shared videos of lectures by Zakir on his Facebook page, including one in which Zakir stated that Muslims should not wish Christians “Merry Christmas”. He also forbade his children from celebrating birthdays.

ISD’s Investigation To-date

8.   ISD’s investigation to-date shows that Khairul had acted alone. There was no sign that he tried to involve others in his plans to travel to Gaza to carry out armed violence.  There is also no indication thus far that Khairul harboured any intention to carry out attacks in Singapore.

9.   ISD will take firm action against any individual in Singapore who supports, promotes, undertakes or makes preparations to undertake armed violence, regardless of how they rationalise such violence, or where the violence takes place. This is particularly so if the person involved is a public servant.  In Khairul’s case, he was convinced that the use of violence against the IDF and “oppressors” of Muslims is justified, and was prepared to participate in armed combat against them alongside HAMAS and AQB, and to die as a martyr if necessary.  While his previous attempts did not materialise due to circumstances beyond his control, Khairul remains committed to making his way to Gaza should there be another escalation in the conflict there.  Given his deeply entrenched radical beliefs and support for armed violence, Khairul poses an imminent threat and has been issued an Order of Detention under the Internal Security Act with effect from 30 Nov 2022.

10.   It is important for the public to remain vigilant to signs that someone around us may have become radicalised, so that we can intervene early to avert a tragedy.  Possible signs of radicalisation include, but are not limited to, the following:

a)   avid consumption of radical materials;

b)   espousing an “us versus them” thinking (e.g. displaying hatred or intolerance towards people of other races or religions);

c)   expressing support for terrorist or militant groups;

d)   expressing interest to travel to and participate in an overseas conflict; and

e)   stating intention to commit terrorist violence.

Anyone who knows or suspects that a person has been radicalised should promptly contact the ISD Counter-Terrorism Centre hotline 1800-2626-473 (1800-2626-ISD).

Lapse of Restriction Orders

11.   The Restriction Orders (RO)5 issued against three Singaporeans under the ISA were allowed to lapse upon their expiry as they had shown good progress in their rehabilitation. They are:

a)   Mohamed Rashid bin Zainal Abidin (aged 63), a former Jemaah Islamiyah member who was detained in May 2006 and released on a RO in May 2014.His RO was allowed to lapse in May 2022;

b)   Dian Faezah binte Ismail (aged 40), a self-radicalised individual who supported the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria. She was issued with a RO in August 2016.Her RO was allowed to lapse in August 2022; and

c)   Razali bin Abas (aged 60), a self-radicalised individual who supported the use of armed violence against the perceived enemies of Islam. He was issued with a RO in October 2018.His RO was allowed to lapse in October 2022.

Internal Security Department

[1]   In March 2021, Amirull bin Ali (Amirull) was issued with an Order of Detention for planning to carry out a knife attack against Jews at the local Maghain Aboth Synagogue, and for planning to travel to Gaza to join HAMAS’ military wing, the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades to fight against Israel.  Amirull was primarily driven by his strong feelings towards the Israel-Palestine conflict.

[2]   Ahmed Deedat (deceased; Ahmed), a South African preacher of Indian descent, was banned from entering Singapore in 1982 after making inflammatory speeches here, which, among others, incited local Muslims to be more militant against other religious communities.  Ahmed’s protégé Zakir Naik has also been barred from entering Singapore since 2014 for his segregationist and extremist teachings.

[3]   In 2014, Khairul’s plans to travel to Gaza were scuttled after an escalation in the conflict there which led Israel to close the borders to Gaza.  In 2021, the travel restrictions imposed as a result of the Coronavirus-19 pandemic prevented him from travelling.

[4]   Khairul served his Full-Time National Service (NS) from 2004 to 2006. He was placed on MINDEF Reserve (MR) in 2021.

[5]   A person issued with a RO must abide by several conditions and restrictions.  For example, the individual is not permitted to change his or her residence or employment, or travel out of Singapore, without the approval of the Director ISD.  The individual also cannot access the Internet or social media, issue public statements, address public meetings or print, distribute, contribute to any publication, hold office in, or be a member of any organisation, association or group, without the approval of Director ISD.

NETIZEN EXPLAINS WHY READING/TALKING ABOUT PARANORMAL GIVES THEM ENERGY TO INTERACT WITH US

0

Reading and talking about the paranormal can give spirits the energy to interact with us, a theory i have been tinkering with. I’ll explain:

So i used to have tons of little paranormal experiences up until i turned 18 then they just stopped. And nothing for nearly 20 years. Then about 6 months ago i started getting super interested in the paranormal again and I’ve been either reading people’s experiences here or listening to podcasts. And things have started to happen again. I believe the more attention you give to the paranormal, even indirectly by reading about others experiences, can give them enough energy to interact with you. Some back story before i get into my latest happenings:

I started dating my ex wife in 09. We moved into our house in 2010-11. We always believed there was a presence in the house but apart from a dumb teenage girl moment with a friend claiming to be sensitive or another girl claiming to see something, no real experiences ever happened. But as adults when we moved in, we always sensed something here. Not really malevolent, but powerful enough of a presence to put you and sometimes also company at unease. But for literally a decade, zero actual experiences. Nothing unexplainable. Even when talking about the paranormal and even making jokes and subconsciously trying to stir something up out of sheer curiosity. Then in 2020 we separate and i move out.

In this new place i occasionally feel a small presence. I chalk it up to either imagination or maybe there’s someone watching over me. Who really knows what’s there which we cant see. We can only speculate. Now cut to 6 months ago when i start to get super drawn to the paranormal again. And i begin reading people’s stories literally every night in bed as i wind down to sleep. i shared about my experience with an entity i mentioned when i talked about the paranormal, it seemed to, as i call it “stir shit up”. As in if you give them attention, they would feed off the energy enough to actually interact with you somehow. Now that I’m giving more attention to this world we know so little about once again, it seems the same thing is happening all over again. I’m starting to feel the presences much stronger. Weird for sure, but i continue. Then around October i have a new experience……

I was at home. You can always hear them. Even over the tv or music, even when you try to be sneaky. They’re just damn loud. One morning about 6:18am. I remember exactly because my morning ritual is i wake up before any other roommate, get dressed, and relax on my phone until 6:30 when i walk out to leave for work. All before any roommate wakes up for their routine.

I am in my room looking at my phone waiting on time to leave. Dead silence in the entire house. Sitting in my room, facing my open bedroom door. Suddenly i hear loud sounds as something slowly walks down the hallway. But i think maybe it’s a roommate coming to talk to me before i leave. I wait about 1-2 minutes. No sounds, no lights turn on or off. There was nobody up at the time. Later that day when i came home i asked each roommate if it was them. They were not. I did everything in my power to explain it away. There is zero logic to disprove it. I tried.

Next experience:
I and my ex-wife are still friends. She’s still in our old house. We’re getting ready to sell it. so we decided since her roommates are moving out and we have work to do to get it ready to sell, i would move back in since I’d be there so often anyway and we get along well enough.

Immediately the presence in that house is stronger than i had ever felt before i left it. Every night. Im still reading and listening to stories and podcasts in bed. Getting very creeped out. Dumb and brave, I continue anyway.

One evening i go with ex-wife to help do some baby sitting and cleaning for cash at a friend’s home. She’s been doing so for months and asked me to come along this time because she hates going there alone because she thinks it’s haunted and gets spooked out.

There is a specific room she hates and feels like there’s always a presence in that room and it makes her extremely uneasy. A friend was hanging out with us and decided to tag along. So we get there and she asks me to handle that room because i don’t rattle easily.

So she’s in the toilet, the friend is just standing in the hall talking to us and I’m in the hall running an extension cord and i walk past the door to that particular room. I look at our friend as he turns sheet white and says as i walked past it, the door slowly opened.

Even though it was locked solid (i had literally just barely asked wifey to come unlock it for me so i could vacuum it so i know for a fact it was just locked). Take that as you will, just a door coming unlatched or paranormal. But it felt unlikely it just unlatched as it is a heavy solid built door with a sturdy lock.

Anyway, I tried recording some audio in the room alone a couple times hoping to catch something but i have captured nothing so far. I’ll keep trying whenever i get a chance. I also say “you are not allowed to follow us home or attach yourself to us and you are not allowed to feed off our energy” before we leave.

3rd experience:
First week of December ex-wife is gone with new boyfriend, leaving me alone in the house for a couple months. A buddy of mine who is pretty sensitive to spirits and such is visiting and we end up talking about the paranormal and i bring up the strong presence here which has felt significantly stronger since being alone. He mentions he’s felt something watching us from the kitchen the whole time that evening and nervously changed the subject.

That night i go to bed, read some stories here, get all spooked and get sleepy, put my phone on the charger, turn off lights, and lay down. Im still very much awake after only about a minute or two since turning off the lights when i feel something clear as can be pat on the bed next to my foot. As if someone took their open palm and just firmly went *pat, pat, pat, pat.

I am most definitely alone in this house. There’s no way it was a person. I calmly said “do not mess with me while i am in bed, and you are not allowed to feed off of my energy, and please respect my home and my boundaries”. And tried not to freak out as i tucked the blanket under my body as if it was a protective shield and eventually went to sleep.

After that i don’t read the spookies every night anymore, shit needs to calm down until I’m at least not home alone lol. But here i am typing this at midnight when i should be going to sleep, home alone still. So i guess we’ll see if i have another one to report soon……

SCAMMER ASKING PUBLIC FOR “DONATIONS”, GETS CONFRONTED THEN RUNS AWAY

0

Pls stop donating to scam charities

I thought it was over a few years back, but it seems to have made a comeback after covid restrictions are relaxed.

Have you seen those youngsters asking for donations, only accepting $10 notes, telling you they will use the money to buy rice or whatever?? They hold clipboards w a transparent pouch with pictures of elderly printed on ppr or something

They are scammers, I have even seen them sharing the money from the plastic pouch, and being so happy and giggling about the easy work. Tbh they look as though they are unemployed and delinquents.

Recently I just saw a guy holding that same clipboard being clingy to a lady and persuaded her to ‘donate’. I tapped the guy and asked what kind of charity organisation they are helping and told the lady that it is a scam. Instead of explaining to me, the guy just ran away, so shady.

Ok I dont know what charity name is printed on the papers, but if in any case I am wrong, pls lmk and I will take this post down. I just cant stand ppl using the name of ‘charity’ to con good-willed people of their hard-earned money. I was almost scammed myself cos the guy was pressuring me, but luckily I didnt donate.

Pls just donate to legitimate organizations through proper channels, or I rather you just buy toto and donate to sg pools and they can donate on your behalf.

Editor’s note: Legit fundraising activities are registered, you can check at charities.gov.sg to see if they are legit.
