WET WEATHER TO CONTINUE FOR NEXT FEW MONTHS, FREE AIRCON BY MOTHER NATURE

0

Singapore, 1 December 2022 – The prevailing Northeast Monsoon conditions are expected to persist over the next few months. During this period, the low-level winds are forecast to blow mainly from the northwest or northeast. The current wet weather is likely to continue, with thundery showers expected on most days in the next fortnight.

2          Climatologically, December is the wettest month of the year. In the first half of December 2022, the monsoon rain band is forecast to lie close to the equator and bring shower activities to the surrounding region of Singapore. Short-duration moderate to heavy thundery showers are expected over parts of the island in the afternoon on most days. The showers may extend into the evening on occasions. In addition, in the early part of the fortnight, low-pressure systems developing in the region are forecast to bring a temporary shift in the winds to blow from the southwest or west over Singapore and the surrounding vicinity. This may result in the passage of Sumatra squalls bringing widespread thundery showers with occasional gusty winds in the morning on a few days. The total rainfall for the first fortnight of December 2022 is forecast to be near average over most parts of Singapore.

3          During the fortnight, the daily temperature is forecast to range between 24 and 33 degrees Celsius on most days. Although thundery showers are expected on most days, the daily maximum temperature could reach a high of around 34 degrees Celsius on a few days.

She will be further remanded at the Changi Women’s Prison, and she is set to return to court on 23 December – if convicted of murder, she faces the death penalty.

Netizens who saw the news were quickly reminded of a similar case which took place at Yishun where a 19-year-old is accused of murdering his father in Yishun.

Fighting over money, housework & flat ownership

The deceased’s nephew, 33-year-old Mr Lee, spoke to TODAY and said that he heard about the victim and his daughter fighting over money that was left behind by the victim’s late wife, the ownership of the flat and doing housework.

Lee said that his uncle would share how his daughter doesn’t even know how to do things like using the washing machine or cook for herself, and refused to learn.

The victim’s brother-in-law, 73-year-old Ng Swee Meng, also spoke to TODAY, saying that he rushed down after receiving a call from his wife about what happened.

He said that the victim retired from being a butcher after suffering a small stroke some years ago, as he suffered some paralysis and wasn’t as strong as he was before.

That was also the main reason why he (the victim) wanted to teach his daughter how to do household chores so she could be independent if his health worsened.

Parents loved & doted on her

The nephew shared that the victim and his wife had adopted the girl when she was a baby because they couldn’t have kids of their own, and they doted on their daughter and treated her like a princess.

He also added that they would prepare food and do everything for her, “that’s why I’m shocked and also furious., they raised her well for so many years, how can she do this?’

Lee also added that the woman would “change jobs like she would change clothes,” and that she didn’t like it if her supervisor gave her more work to do.

He added that she would hide inside her room during Chinese New Year visitations at their home.

GRAB DRIVER WITH NUS DEGREE CAN’T FIND JOB IN S’PORE, “I NEED A JOB, NOT TRAINING”

0

Progress Singapore Party (PSP) member Jeffrey Khoo shared a conversation that he had with a Grab driver, who lamented the lack of job opportunities for him.

He said that he was a former NUSS member to had to sell off his membership after falling on hard times, and that he his business venture failed years ago and he then found it hard to get a job.

Here is what he said

A SAD RIDE

On Tuesday, I took a GRAB ride to NUSS Kent Ridge Guild House from Shenton Way to attend a meeting.

I started to chat with the driver and was surprised and saddened when he told me that he was a former NUSS member, a graduate that has fallen on hard times. He had to sell off his membership some time back.

Apparently, he was a Commercial Director at a large MNC and left his job to start his own venture. After about 3-4 years, things did not work out and he found great difficulties securing a job. For the past few years he has been driving GRAB and now at 48, he feels all hope is lost to find full time employment.

I asked if he took up some training to upgrade his skills, which is the common suggestion, to better his chances.

Here is his problem: with children to feed and bills to pay, he has no choice but to drive as much as possible to increase income. Basically no time to attend courses. He further mentioned that he needs a job now and not “higher potential for a job” by acquiring more training.

One of his comments resonated with me. At his age and seniority, he would be more suitable for a people management role. Taking up new skill sets may be undoubtedly beneficial, but it also means starting from a lower level in most cases. What infuriates him most is the number of managerial roles given to foreigners and not Singaporeans.

Throughout the long conversation, this gentleman was not aware of my political affiliation or involvement. He was just pouring out his frustrations to a fellow Singaporean.

Before I disembarked, I encouraged him that there will be change at some point in the future and we must not to give up hope. Incidentally, “Hope” in the Malay language is “Harapan”.

MAN NOT HAPPY WITH $3 WAITING FEE, BROKE TAXI’S WINDSHIELD & GOT FINED $3K

0

42-year-old Mohd Zasman (transliteration) was fined $3,000 on 30 November for breaking the windshield of a taxi after an argument with the driver over a $3 waiting fee, according to Lianhe Zaobao.

What happened?

The incident happened on 6 June 2021 at about 12pm near Foch Road, at Jalan Besar.

Zasman had booked a taxi via the ComfortDelGro app on his phone the previous night, for a pickup at 25 Jalan Berseh.

The driver then arrived at the indicated time and place but Zasman wasn’t there.

The driver couldn’t wait there for a long period because he was on a single-lane road, and he then drove to a location nearby to wait for the passenger.

Zasman later boarded the taxi with his wife, and he later found out that he was charged an additional $3 waiting fee.

The upset man then scolded the taxi driver whilst en route to his destination, and at the end of the trip, he only paid the taxi fare of $6.30 and refused to pay the waiting fee of $3.

The two then got into an argument, and the man’s wife then gave the driver $4 after she saw them quarelling with each other.

Still unhappy, Zasman then smashed the windshield of the taxi after alighting, causing it to shatter. The driver then filmed the accused’s actions and he then later lodged a police report against him.

The taxi sustained damages of $1,076 in repairs, as well as another $250 in losses as the taxi, couldn’t be rented out due to being under repairs.

S’PORE WOMAN STRIKES 4D, THEN FINDS OUT SHE THREW THE WINNING TICKET AWAY

0

A woman struck 4D but her world then turned upside down after she realised that she had thrown away her winning ticket.

Pearlyn Yap spoke to AsiaOne yesterday (1 December) and said that she had placed a $12 bet at a Singapore Pools outlet in Geylang Serai back in September.

She later realised that her 4D ticket was missing and after looking through her CCTV footage, she saw that she had accidentally thrown it away into the rubbish chute.

Her nightmare then came to fruition after she checked the 4D results and saw that her number of “1234” had won $500.

She said that it was such a rare chance for her to win 4D and she literally threw it away.

Yap initially wanted to just forget about her loss but found it too hard to ignore the fact that she had thrown away $500.

She then called Sembcorp’s customer service the next morning and told them what happened, and three rubbish disposal workers then showed up at her block about an hour later for the search operation.

She shared that two workers stood on both sides of the rubbish truck and picked out the rubbish that had been accumulated from the previous day, as they rummaged through the rubbish under the hot weather for about 30 minutes.

They finally found her 4D ticket, to which Yap said that she really salutes them – describing the situation as being unclean and pungent, with flies flying around.

She then gave each worker $12 for their help.

@pearlyn_yap The story goes : I threw a lottery ticket into the #recyclingchute at the common area of our flat area. That bet slip was for that very night! My fear came true, that was a winning lottery ticket. Such a rare chance to win #4D and I literally threw it away! If it wasn’t for the help of #Sembcorp Industries employees, I would not be able to retrieve my #lotteryticket ♬ 芭比q了 – 邓家忠
