EMPLOYEE ESCAPES BOSS WHO TOOK ADVANTAGE & WENT ON TO A $100K PAYING JOB

0

Enjoyed doing community related work with below average pay, a shitty SME boss, and ungrateful clients but accumulated good karma and now I do chill corporate work in an MNC with great pay and benefits.

I won’t say what industry I was previously working at but the work dealt with high net worth clients down till the man on the street kind of work.

This was my first job straight out of NUS not so long ago. I loved what I did, which involved helping these various clients to solve their issues, especially those really down on their luck.

My ex-boss (and kudos to him) likes to help that common man on the street (who also at times take advantage of our kindness and even make unreasonable demands) sometimes at the expense of his employees (we all know how shit SMEs in Singapore generally are lah, so no point sugarcoating it).

As a single guy then, I didn’t mind the below average pay (in comparison to my industry’s average) because I enjoyed what I did that still allowed me to indulge and I could buy a nice sports car (before the COE prices shoot through the roof).

Now that I have gotten older and looking forward towards marriage and etc, I suddenly got poached to join an MNC with all the blessings that came with it (e.g. annual salary is more than $100k) when I reached my early 30s. Nevertheless, I kinda miss my old job cause I still like helping the less fortunate (since I learn to count my blessings and share my blessings with others) but appreciate that it’s now no longer forced on me by my current employer compared to my ex-boss.

My point of sharing my tale on a lazy Sunday morning is three-fold:- (1) there’s always light at the end of the tunnel, karma was good to me (but not for my ex-boss ever since I left given what my ex-colleagues shared) – moral of the story is don’t treat your employees like trash; (2) enjoy every step along the way, the good and bad – you learn of your limits, etc; and (3) if it’s meant to be, then it’s meant to be, time will tell – this one, you will know when you see it cause it’s hindsight 20/20.

With all that, I want to wish everyone a great last few months of 2022!

GIRL SAYS HER GOLDFISH DIED AND CAN’T ATTEND FAMILY EVENT, AUNT GOES BERSERK

0
This might sound funny but am I wrong for saying I couldn’t go to a family event because my goldfish died?

This story needs a bit of context first. This all happened around 5-6 years ago now, there was an event created through social media for a Christmas gathering with my family as we all knew this could possibly be our grandfathers last Christmas with us.

I (currently 27f) was a little immature at the time and made a post in the event saying ‘I’m sorry, I can’t come, my goldfish died’ which my immediate family and some extended family found hilarious. Somewhere between the time of the event being created and my post going up, my estranged Aunt had marked herself as not coming to the Christmas gathering.

A few hours after I had made the post, my mother received a phone call from said Aunt, abusing her for what her daughter had done, meanwhile the Aunt’s daughter had started posting nasty comments on the goldfish thread calling me (at the time I was around 20-21 years old) a fat pig, inconsiderate c***, worthless fat dog, amongst many other comments.

I had absolutely no idea why this was happening as I had made what I thought was a funny joke in a family event. The next day, my mother pulled me aside and asked if I could take down my post as there were certain family members offended by it. I went on the defence immediately and said that I had no idea what I had done wrong and why she made no comment on what her niece had been writing to me all night. It was then revealed that the reason my Aunt could not make it to the last Christmas with our grandfather was due to her dog was ill.

I took the post down straight away, I also issued an apology, however, I also made a comment that the dog was clearly more important than spending the last Christmas we had with our grandfather and said that would be something they would regret for the rest of their lives.

So in summary, am I wrong for making the post and then following it up with the final comments, even though I was not aware of what was happening in my estranged Aunt’s life?

MAN TOLD BY SCOOT STAFF THAT HIS FLIGHT IS CANCELLED THEN LAST MIN TELL HIM CAN FLY

Dear FlyScoot,

Your company has utterley disappointed me for the service that I had recieved after years of flying with you.

I booked a flight to travel to Taipei on the 28th of September and got a notice that there were changes made on the 9th of September.

I called your hotline and a representative (can’t remember his name) informed me that the flight was cancelled and therefore i was not able to fly. As such i had to change my plans and flew to Bangkok instead as i had already took leave, with the understanding that this flight would be refunded back as per conversed on the 9th. Just as i was about to travel to Bangkok 1 week before the 28th i recieved another email stating that the flight to Taipei is still ongoing. Therefore triggering me to make another call which i spoke to representative Piriya and she informed me that my flight to Taipei was not cancelled and i could fly then. So my flight on the 28th to bangkok was already booked and after learning that the previous staff had MISLEAD me with FACT THAT THE FLIGHT IS CANCELED. I requested that this flight be refunded back to me as i was trying to be civil despite my disgust that a airline representative can provide such wrong information to a passenger and Piriya mentioned that she will put up the request for me and it should be within 30days.

But after a month of waiting. I decided to call your hotline again on the 20th October and your representative Louie said and i quote “you just need to wait” and when i asked by when she refused to give me a specific timing telling me to just wait with no other information. So please tell me? HOW LONG MORE DO I NEED TO WAIT?

The amount is not big but it’s the hassle of having to call and wait from my end and not having a response from my end that is making me very irritated by the fact that i need to ask and still get such answers.

The new flight tickets have been bought and mind you it’s double of what i have paid previously. So what are you gonna do about it? It’s almost 2 months since the incident and i have not gotten a satisfactory response nor my refund. . . 🙄

Sincerely,

A very Displeased Consumer

WOMAN GOT RETRENCHED ONE WEEK BEFORE HER B’DAY, DIDN’T DARE TO TELL HER FAMILY

0

TikTok user @joeyxpoey shared how she was retrenched a week before her birthday, which led to her feeling like she wasn’t good enough and didn’t dare to tell her family.

She said that it had been more than a month since she got laid off and she hasn’t told anyone about it, not even her own family.

She said that her retrenchment was unexpected, and she was remotely working from the US when she received the bad news.

Her manager had requested to have a one-on-one meeting with her, and she didn’t think too much about it because she knew her company had funding from huge, reputable companies.

She said that she is low in her self-confidence and the retrenchment affected her mental health, and she didn’t feel like doing anything on most days and feeling empty inside.

She said that she knows it’s not her fault, but life happens. But she also can’t help feeling like she isn’t good enough.

On her job hunt, she said that she hasn’t started applying for jobs because she is afraid of being retrenched again, adding that she doesn’t even dare to open LinkedIn these days.

SGAG ACTRESS FORCED TO CUT OFF EYELASH EXTENSIONS FOR HER PASSPORT RENEWAL

SGAG actress Maddy Breteche-Lo shared in a TikTok video that she was forced to remove her eyelash extensions when renewing her Malaysian passport with the Immigration Department of Malaysia.

The Malaysian-French actress, said that she was aware that Malaysian immigration officers are particular about people having makeup on in their passport photos.

However, she didn’t expect them to be this particular about her makeup, despite wearing the bare minimum – she was told that her eyelash extensions were too long.

The Malaysian immigration officers gave her an ultimatum – either return on another day or cut off the eyelashes herself.

Maddy chose to cut if off because she had a flight to catch the next day.

Netizens’ comments

SCDF OFFICERS PUT OUT FIRE USING POKKA GREEN TEA BOTTLE, NETIZENS IMPRESSED

0

A video emerged online showing two Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) officers using a bottle of what appears to be Pokka Green Tea to put out a fire under a HDB block.

The fire took place at the foot of a HDB estate in Bedok, and shows the two firefighters decked out in firefighting gear armed with a Pokka bottle.

The two officers were seen taking turns to douse the flames with the liquid inside the bottle, and a third officer was later seen arriving with a fire extinguisher in tow.

However, the Pokka bottle did the job as he set the fire extinguisher down on the ground and watched his colleagues put out the fire.

Netizens’ comments

WOMAN FOUND COCKROACH INSIDE HER DIMSUM, RESTAURANT OWNER SAYS “NOT US”

0

Facebook user Kristine Giam shared in a lengthy post about her experience at House of Seafood, where she allegedly found a cockroach inside her food, according to Mothership.

Here is what she said

Full Cockroach found in dimsum.

Disgusting! Almost bite into the food already!

Attend by a staff who can’t make decision because no manager /supervisor was around and only offer to waive the affected items after I requested. Almost half the food we didn’t touch after the cockroach was found. We have to stop continuing our meals & I still pay for the bill which includes service charge & tax..

(service charge for having roaches maybe..)

Lucky I double check the bill because they didn’t even deduct away my dessert (yet to serve) and I’ve to ask them to redo the bill.

The staff offered a $50 voucher instead of waiver of the meal, I didn’t accept it bcos I’ve those vouchers already and I’ve never use it before..as I don’t think I will go back again and spend another $100 after this episode just so I can uitilise the voucher on normal/off peak days as the voucher have terms&condition to meet.

I mean… Come-on #houseofseafood, your service recovery can be better than just a voucher to apologise for what is found on ur food right? Not as if I ate lobster and seafood items and I asked for waiver of the meal.. I only had some dim sum.. Total bill after deduct the affected items is $42.60.. After all we didn’t even had a full and pleasant meal at your restaurant due to the cockroach.

You should at least have a manager or a person who can make decision when such situation arise and not just let a service staff handle these.

Their staff was fast to take away my plate after I call for them (lucky I took the pictures with backdrop of house of seafood name already) otherwise can’t proof it’s them and I’m at their restaurant.

Those who wants to see the cockroach, I’ve attached the pictures for viewing..

Restaurant responds

The owner of House of Seafood, Francis Ng, told 8world that his resurant’s kitchen is very clean and that the dim sum are placed in steaming baskets before serving.

He said that the insect might have flowing into the restaurant and landed on the plate after it was served to the customer.

Ng claimed that Giam was seen in their CCTV footage arranging the food for a photo and taking out two pieces of siew mai from the basket to put onto her plate, to take a photo of it in front of their signboard.

He also alleged that Giam asked for the whole bill to be waived off, and she asked for a “very large” figure as compensation after declining their offer to pay for any medical expenses that may stem from this incident.

However, Giam spoke to Mothership and said that she didn’t ask for any compensation.

SFA detects food safety lapses

SFA confirmed with Mothership that their officers detected lapses in food safety at the restaurant after the feedback, and said that they will be taking enforcement actions against the operator.

DISABLED WOMAN CRAWLED OFF PLANE SEAT AS JETSTAR WANTED HER TO PAY FOR WHEELCHAIR

0

A disabled Queensland woman has vowed never to fly Jetstar after she was told to pay for a wheelchair by Jetstar.

Natalie Curtis, a wheelchair user, used an aisle wheelchair to get to her seat on the last leg of her flight from Townsville to Bangkok.

Curtis claims that when it was time to leave the plane, personnel requested her to pay to use the wheelchair.

She declined, claiming that she had never been asked to pay before, and instead chose to crawl off the plane, a 4m distance..

Curtis agrees that there was a linguistic barrier between her and the personnel.

“When we landed, (staff) were asking us to pay, and I didn’t really understand it, and I was like, ‘no, I’m not paying to get off this plane,'” she told Sunrise.

“They all simply sat about for a while, and the only thing left for me to do was crawl on the floor.”

Jetstar’s Statement

“We unreservedly apologise to Ms Curtis for her recent experience while travelling with us,”

“We are committed to providing a safe and comfortable travel experience for all our customers, including those requiring specific assistance.

“Regrettably, this was not the case for Ms Curtis following a miscommunication that resulted in the delay of an aisle chair being made available at the gate on arrival and we are looking into what happened as a matter of urgency.
