MAYHEM AT JB CUSTOMS DURING DEEPAVALI LONG WEEKEND, PEOPLE SCREAMING & PUSHING

The long Deepavali weekend started yesterday (21 October), with huge crowds of people being seen in a circulating video being squeezed together while trying to enter Johor Bahru through the Causeway.

There was mayhem all around as people were heard screaming in the crowds, while a customs officer struggled to maintain order.

In the video circulating online that was shared last night at about 10.40pm, a huge crowd was seen stuck at the bottom of an escalator because there were too many people.

The travellers were seen jostling and pushing and shoving each other and they tried to force their way through the crowd and go up the escalator into the main hall.

Customs officers were on site to maintain order but their commands were silenced by the noises of the crowd, who were shouting at each other to stop pushing.

And the mayhem didn’t stop there, as once the travelers got out of the pushing and shoving crowd at the bottom of the escalator, they were greeted with another crowd at the main hall queuing to get through the customs.

WOMAN BOUGHT $500 GOLD EARRINGS FROM SHOPEE, BUT EARRINGS DON’T LOOK THE SAME

0

Facebook user Yulia Anakova shared how she bought a pair of gold earrings from Goldheart online via Shopee, and when she received her gold earrings, realised that they didn’t look the same.

She then took it to a Goldheart outlet at Ion and the staff there even agreed with her that it was poor workmanship, and advised her to get a refund for her gold earrings.

Here is what she said

Shopee, I bought a pair of $500 gold earrings from your goldheart shop online.

Earrings are a pair and should look identical. I took side by side photos of the pair of earrings to show the POOR workmanship and your validator who processes refunds rejected my return with no explanation!

I went through the trouble of going down to goldheart Ion and the staff there agreed that it was poor workmanship and advised me to return it back to Shopee to get my refund.

Is your validator even a certified jewellery expert?

I even called your hotline and a customer service rep called Jerry said he will get back to me within three days. 3 weeks later still no reply!

I have spent thousands on your platform and this is not what I expect. I regret not going through Lazada or Amazon instead.

I would like a full refund immediately.

PRC MAN STRANGLED & PUNCHED WOMAN BEFORE RAPING HER, JAILED 12 YEARS & CANED

0

32-year-old Chinese national Li Jiajie pleaded guilty in the High Court to a charge of aggravated rape and was sentenced on 21 October to 12 years imprisonment and 12 strokes of the cane, according to The Straits Times.

He had used a fake online profile to dupe a woman into meeting him by offering her $2,500 to sleep with him, and he then assaulted and raped the woman.

What happened?

Li worked as a hotel room attendant at the time and he got acquainted with the victim on a dating app in May 2018 where he used a fake name with a fake photo of another man that he found online.

He told her that he was an engineer and offered her $2,000 to sleep with him, which she rejected but continued chatting with him.

Li said that he liked her and increased his offer to $2,500, when he only had $23 in his bank account.

On 8 June 2019, Li told her that he would respect her decision if she changed her mind after meeting up, when she asked.

They then met later that night at Kallang MRT and she told him that he looked very different from his profile picture.

They then went to his home and the victim asked him if he lived alone, and Li told her that he didn’t have the money to rent the whole flat.

The woman then asked him for the money but he didn’t respond, and she then booked a Grab ride to go home – but Li then refused to let her leave.

The woman then threatened to call the police and Li retorted that he would tell them that she was a prostitute.

Li then pinned the woman down on the bed, strangling and punching her and forcing her to take off her clothes as she tried to push him away, but to no avail.

She then tried to talk him into releasing her, but Li told her that he can only leave after he was done.

After raping the woman, she left his place in a daze and flagged down a taxi, and she then decided to make a police report while on her way home.

Li was also messaging her at the same time, asking her to share her location with him, and he was then later arrested at his workplace.

68-year-old Ku Chee Kong, pleaded guilty to one count of driving without reasonable consideration for other individuals using the road causing death, and was sentenced to 7 months imprisonment on 21 October.

He will also be disqualified from holding all classes of driving licenses for 8 years after his release from prison.

He was driving an SBS Transit bus when he crashed into the cyclist, 31-year-old German Jr Miranda Gonzalez, and dragged him on the road without stopping the bus, even making a right turn despite drivers around him honking at him.

He even told a female passenger that he had seen what happened and was aware that he had hit the cyclist, and only stopped the bus completely after the passengers shouted for him to come to a halt.

What happened?

On 19 March 2021, the victim was cycling along Loyang Avenue.

Ku was about to make a right turn at the junction of Pasir Ris Drive 1 and Loyang Avenue when he noticed a “shadowy figure” on his left.

That figure was the victim who was cycling across the pedestrian crossing at the junction, despite the traffic light being in favour of the bus.

Ku then flashed his bus’ high beam twice as the victim entered the pedestrian crossing, and when he was in front of the bus.

The bus then ran over the cyclist, but the driver didn’t stop the bus after the collision and continued to complete his right turn despite the drivers in the vicinity honking at him.

A female passenger asked the driver if he had seen what happened, and he told he that he did, as the bus continued moving.

He finally stopped the bus after being shouted at by the passengers.

The victim was dragged on the road for about 35 metres and was pronounced dead at the scene at about 11.31pm after sustaining multiple injuries.

An autopsy that was performed on the victim, also showed that he had 221mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood in his system.

5.         Investigations into all arrested suspects are ongoing. CNB would like to remind the public that cannabis is addictive and harmful and is a Class A controlled drug listed under Singapore’s Misuse of Drugs Act (MDA) 1973. The consumption, possession, trafficking, import or export of any controlled drugs, including cannabis and cannabis products, is an offence under the MDA 1973. Any person convicted of cultivating the cannabis plant may also face a maximum of 20 years of imprisonment and / or $40,000 fine.

6.         CNB would also like to urge parents to play an active part to protect our youths from the menace of drugs, and to remind their children that they should not consume or accept products unknown to them or offered by strangers. To entice more youths to consume these products, drugs such as cannabis are added as ingredients to edibles like candies and baked goods, and irresponsibly marketed as harmless consumables. Some products may be marketed as ‘health’ products, and contain hemp, hemp seed oil, CBD oil, cannabis oil, or claimed to be THC-free. Please note that any products containing hemp derivatives as an ingredient or derived from the Cannabis Sativa plant or its seeds can contain controlled drugs such as THC despite the product labels indicating otherwise.

7.         Members of the public can contact the CNB hotline at 1800-325-6666 for advice and assistance if they come across such suspected food products or are worried that their children may be involved with drugs. Those who have drug-related information can make a report to CNB by calling 1800-325-6666 or at https://www.eservices.cnb.gov.sg/feedback

30 Y.O WOMAN EARNS $40K/YEAR BUT $70K IN DEBT WITH NO SAVINGS, “DROWNING” IN DEBT

0

almost 30, no savings, 70k in debt , & overwhelmed

I’m turning 30 in less than 2 months, and my life has fell apart in less than a year. i’m like 70k in debt including loans. I alsoi haven’t been in school a year.

it started with me taking a leave of absence after i had some crazy things happen to me, now i make around 40k a year but i owe 20k in credit cards , still owe 18k on my car and 18k in loans.

i’m overwhelmed and don’t know where to start. i gave up my apartment and now things are worse . my minimums were almost 1k a month for the credit cards alone.

i do not own any property or anything i just messed up and don’t know what to do cause i’m drowning in debt & living with family to save money but would eventually like to get my own place but can’t even afford unit with a roommate right now.

Netizen’s comments

I was in a similar scenario and at 32 was when reality slapped me in the face.

For me my strategy was two fold. Decrease spending and increase income. Those will be the two factors that will determine how much time it takes for you to climb out of this.

If you are only able to decrease spending without increasing income, it’ll take more time. Calculate exactly how much time it’ll take you, because this won’t happen overnight. Knowing how many months or years you’ll be dealing with this is much more comforting then just staring at a number like $70k.

Now that you know how much time it’ll take you, if you could find ways to increase income, and throw every last one of those dollars at your debt, calculate how much time that takes off your original calculation. This was huge for my motivation.

I had to make a ton of sacrifices. I worked two jobs, 7 days a week. My hours were about 14/day. I actually lost friends because they were upset that I wasn’t around, but I figured if I had friends who got that upset at me for trying to better my own life, I’m probably better off without them.

Luckily my GF was supportive about me spending so much time working, so I know I have a keeper.

It was exhausting and left me both with both physical and mental pain. But in about 1.5 years, I was able to become debt free.

You can do it, but how badly do you want it? I wish you luck on your journey. It’s a tough one. Your silver lining is that you have family who took you in. That’s a huge decrease in monthly spending right there.
