GIRL WENT TO A&E JUST BECAUSE A PIECE OF HER HAIR GOT STUCK INSIDE HER EYE

0

what’s the silliest reason you went to the a&e for?

I was trimming my bangs this morning and a piece of hair fell into my eye. My dumbass rubbed my eye a lot thinking it’ll come out but it just pushed the hair in even more.

The hair kept painfully poking my eye once every few minutes, and I couldn’t flush it out/pick it out myself, so I went to the clinic in the afternoon.

The doctor said to go to the hospital because he didn’t have the equipment to take it out. So I went to the a&e, sat here for 5+ hours, just to have the doctor easily take out the 2mm piece of hair with some numbing eye drops and his fingers 😭

People are going to the a&e because they’re bleeding, in a wheelchair, etc, and I came because of something something so dumb

I just feel really silly, and was wondering if anyone else had went to the a&e for stupid reasons as well

Yawned until dislocated jaw

I yawned too widely and dislocated my jaw. Had to hold tissues to the side of my face where the jaw was dislocated cause couldn’t swallow properly and kept drooling 8,3

Reattaching the jaw back was a b*tch tho LOL they failed once and did it again real painful 8,3

The doctor also taught me how to yawn properly by making my tongue touch the roof of my mouth when I yawn. Now I just try to yawn as lightly as possible. I have had minor dislocations but it re attached back by itself LOL

Sprayed hairspray into eyes

Bought new hairspray, spray on fringe facing the nozzle towards myself, did not close my eyes, went partially blind after 24 hours and finally went to the A&E after a day of hanging out with friends. Surprisingly the queue was short (or maybe because my eyes were fully red at that point)

MAN MOVES OUT OF PUNGGOL, HATES THE AREA & CALLS IT A “PLACE FOR LOW SES LOSERS”

0

PUNGGOL = PLACE FOR LOW SES LOSERS

Finally move out from Punggol thanks for the stay here past 5 years. Which was eye opening and a experience which not everyone is Singapore will ever experience in this part of Singapore.

1) the smell from Pasir gudang is terrible everyday I can feel suffocated in the morning and need to clear my throat . Now in central side the air so fresh no more this problem

2) depressing and dark basement carparks. Basement Carpark so dark and dirty compare to even older estates. Other than shelter u from rain , it’s useless and abuse by Idiotic drivers going against traffic , speeding recklessly in carpark corners. Terrible

3) lifts take so long , never once in my life waited lift from 5 minutes onwards in any estate in Singapore . Peak period wait up till 10 minutes and always full and pack with inconsiderate people who doesn’t move in.

4) depressing young couple neighbours with noisy kids so noisy whole neighbourhood can hear when playing ball at the corridors . Parents dun car probably have a lot of problems themselves . Their faces show a lot of sadness and problems that u would want to avoid .

5) heavy traffic and terrible if u work in town TPE , KPE , by the time . Met with drivers from Punggol and Sengkang are hell drivers, u reach office u are already drained from all the driving . But in the central here u dun find such drivers . Probably having hard life must pity them for paying high installments for full car loan and hdb loans

6) no proper food centres or nice food . Totally cannot make it and yet charge higher than other estates

7) airplanes from rsaf flying loud and making your eardrums have problems. Another 5 years if still stay there become deaf Liao

Netizens’ comments

  1. Because of your bto, u manage to sell and make money. No need to condemn until like that. Certain parts of Punggol/Sengkang are very nice, but some can be bad.
  2. Try apply house in pulau ubin.. Complaining too much..to those type of people like u can find your own island. We live only once.. If dislike just do whatever necessary. Can’t please everyone in this world.
  3. I find punggol a nice area to bring up young children. The people here really give way to you when you have stroller. Maybe because people here have young kids themselves and know what it’s like
Really can’t find this elsewhere in Singapore. Just one stop down to sengkang and you can see the difference. Impossible to take the lift or go anyway because everyone is busy cutting queue like barbarians and taking advantage of the fact you have children in tow and can’t move as fast as them.

GIRL WENT OVERSEAS & LEFT CAT WITH FRIEND, CAME BACK AND HER CAT WAS DIFFERENT

0

I think my (20F) friend (23F) replaced my cat, how do I approach this?

I went to a different country for a month and let my friend take care of my cat. When I came back, she seemed like a completely different cat, so I think my friend replaced my cat and Idk how to confront her.

Okay so some context: around a month ago I went on a trip and left my friend (I’ll be calling her Nana) to take care of my cat (Yuyu) for that period.

I recently got back and Nana gave back my cat, but I don’t think the cat she gave back is MY cat. I mean, she looks the same but her personality is very different from Yuyu’s.

For example, she’s a lot more energetic than Yuyu was. She also responds to her name, which is weird since my old cat was partially deaf.

Anyway, I have no idea how to confront Nana about this. I mean, like why would she even replace my cat in the first place? And what if I’m wrong and it is actually Yuyu? Please help!!

UNI GRAD REGRETS STUDYING SO HARD FOR DEGREE – EMPLOYERS DON’T CARE ABOUT GPA”

0

One thing I regret was studying too much during my Uni days.

As a working adult in a managerial position, it really irks me that I’m usually the ONLY person in the interview panel who actually cares about what the applicant’s GPA is. I’m talking about entry-level hires by the way, not mid-career hires. Obviously nobody cares what your GPA is once you are applying for mid career positions but I would have thought GPA would be a significant factor in entry level roles.

I’ve noticed that the rest of the interviewers usually don’t pay much attention to the candidate’s GPA. For me, I always found that good grades reflect important qualities such as discipline, diligence, responsibility, capability and to an extent, intelligence. All important qualities needed to succeed in the work place.

But I feel like I’m in the minority as everyone else usually just takes a passing glance at the candidate’s GPA, and generally pay more attention to internship experience, attitude and vibe.

Call me old fashioned but internship experience is normally negligible (how much can you possibly learn in a few months) and attitude and vibe are very superficial qualities that anyone can easily fake during an interview. But you can’t fake a good GPA.

So unless you are gunning for a high level position like IB where GPA is a requirement, the rest of you just pass and get degree can already.

I see so many of you here stressing over your GPA but trust me, it’s like NS like that.

When you are in NS, doing well and getting into command school can feel like the most important thing in the world. It’s only when you ORD that you realise nobody gives a shit about what you did during NS.

Same for GPA. It will feel like the most important thing in Uni but in the working world for MOST jobs, it really doesn’t matter as long as you pass and graduate.

WOMAN WHO IS MARRIED FOR MANY YEARS GET TEMPTED BY NEW HANDSOME BOSS

0

Is it normal having a crush on your colleague/boss?

I’ve been married for many years now, living with my husband. Life has been smooth sailing but rather routined and we have no kids for now.

Just recently came a restructure at work and i was being sent to another team reporting to a new boss. My boss is the eye candy of the company -very tall and good-looking and not married (but attached). When he just joined our company, many of the ladies were commenting about how good looking he is and also the fact that there not many guys in my company.

I had a very good impression of him all these while as he is always being helpful at work even being at management level. He is also always polite and very positive.

I didn’t expect having given the opportunity to work with him, and to be honest i was really glad to be under his reporting.

We are now working very closely together and having many work travel opportunities. I find myself confiding to him on many personal issues during trips and during meal conversations. Sometimes speaking to him just made me feel like butterflies in my stomach. And we can resonate so much on my topics at work or be it many other topics of interest. He is always complimenting me at work and showing concern about me. He even remembers my birthday and ask me out for meal after I joined his team. I am not sure if that is normal or it is just because he is doing it out of concern as my boss. He always come round my desk for small talks and asking for after work drinks.

I hated this feeling as I’ve realised am being to take interest in his every actions and words. The feeling is so much stronger than I feel for my husband and it felt this is so so wrong. Sometimes, i can be thinking about what my boss said to me at work or occasionally i can just recall a funny joke that we talked about at work.

This seems like a warning sign and i am getting to close to my boss.

As I am just rather new in the team, and it is a great opportunity of growth for my career, i don’t know if i should distance away from my boss right now or it could just be a one-sided crush on my end.

Any advice/s would be appreciated. Really confuse of my feelings towards my boss and i really hated it.

3 BUNKER CLERKS CHARGED FOR CORRUPTION IN RELATION TO SHELL BUKOM HEIST

0

On 6 October 2022, three bunker clerks, previously employed by Sentek Marine & Trading Pte Ltd (“Sentek”), will be charged in Court for offences under the Corruption, Drug Trafficking and Other Serious Crimes (Confiscation of Benefits) Act (“CDSA”) and the Prevention of Corruption Act (“PCA”). They are:

  1. Wong Wai Meng (“Wai Meng”) (王偉明, 56-year-old male Singaporean);
  2. Wong Kuin Wah (“Kuin Wah”) (王建華, 59-year-old male Singaporean); and
  3. Boo Pu Wen (“Pu Wen”) (巫普文, 55-year-old male Singaporean).

Alleged Offences under the CDSA

It is alleged that Wai Meng, Kuin Wah and Pu Wen intentionally aided Sentek in acquiring property which was another person’s benefits from criminal conduct, by assisting to receive on board their respective vessels, gasoil which had been dishonestly misappropriated from Shell Eastern Petroleum (Pte) Ltd’s facility (“Shell Pulau Bukom”). They will be charged for offences under Section 47(3) of the CDSA, read with Section 109 of the Penal Code, and punishable under Section 47(6)(a) of the CDSA. Specifically:

Alleged Corruption Offences

Further, between February 2018 and January 2021, Wai Meng, Kuin Wah and Pu Wen allegedly received gratification from Pai Keng Pheng (“Pai”), the former Managing Director of Sentek, as an inducement to remain out of Singapore in order to avoid investigations by the Singapore Police Force into the suspected involvement of Sentek and others, in the receipt of misappropriated gasoil from Shell Pulau Bukom.

Each bunker clerk will be charged with 12 charges under Section 5(a)(i) of the PCA. It is alleged that Wai Meng had corruptly received a sum totalling S$259,420 over 69 occasions while Pu Wen and Kuin Wah had corruptly received sums totalling S$286,040 and S$294,080 respectively from Pai over 71 occasions. These bribes were allegedly given to them through various intermediaries, either in Singapore or Batam, Indonesia.

Pai himself faces 42 charges of consenting to Sentek’s acquiring of property which was another person’s benefits from criminal conduct under Section 47(3) read with Section 59(1)(a) of the CDSA. He also faces charges for corruption and obstructing the course of justice. His case is still before the Court.

Singapore adopts a strict zero-tolerance approach towards corruption. Any person who is convicted of a corruption offence can be fined up to S$100,000, sentenced to imprisonment of up to five years, or both. Any individual convicted of an offence under Section 47(3) of the CDSA is liable to a fine of up to S$500,000, imprisonment for up to 10 years, or both.

  3. Call the Duty Officer at 1800-376-0000; or
  4. Write to us at the CPIB Headquarters @ 2 Lengkok Bahru, S159047.

Where possible, the report should include the following information:

  1. Where, when and how did the alleged corrupt act happen?
  2. Who was involved and what were their roles?
  3. What was the bribe given and the favour shown?

MAN REFUSES TO LET GF STAY WITH HIM AS SHE IS JOBLESS & A FINANCIAL BURDEN

0

I told my mom that I don’t want my gf (23) to move in with me until she has a job.

She will graduate from undergrad in December and has not yet secured a full-time position, however, we have been planning to move in together early next year.

I am 26, make nearly six-figures, and have been in the corporate world for almost 4 years. My mom says I’m being ridiculous and thinks that given my financial situation, I should allow her to live with me and pay the majority of the bills if she can find a part-time job.

My mom also thinks that this will open unnecessary doors to meet other women while I am living away from my girlfriend. But I feel that I should not be paying for everything until I am personally ready and have taken care of my own debts and responsibilities.

While I make more than enough to cover all necessary expenses, the unnecessary burden created by covering the expenses of someone I am not yet married to is unreasonable in my opinion. My gf has been contacted by multiple recruiters on LinkedIn, and it has always fell through the cracks due to “I don’t want this job” or her resume not being ready. I understand that it is stressful and anxiety-inducing to step out into the real world and begin your job search. To conclude, I have been reminding her that she needs to begin applying to jobs since this past summer, and she has no applied to a single one yet.

GUY ENCOURAGES CHEATING – “MY PARTNER & I CHEATED MULTIPLE TIMES, WON’T SOUR RELATIONSHIP”

0

I encourage cheating, and here is why.

This might be a controversial take, but my partner and I have cheated multiple times. It does not sour our relationship at all.

In fact, I feel that allowing it to happen strengthens our bond and builds trust. We all have our needs, wants and desires, and sometimes we are unable to fulfill it with just one person.

Not to discredit my partner as she is a nice and intelligent person, but she is not good at everything, and I admit that I am not either. So sometimes we have to look for other partners to fulfill our needs.

We try not to get caught but nowadays technology is making to pretty difficult.

For example, our last ordeal was when they actually shuffle the questions AND answer choices so even when I’m right beside my partner, her “Question 4” and my “Question 4” is totally different, which makes it so much harder to cheat because we can’t simply whisper the question number and answers to each other.

Netizens’ comments

  • You’re cfm the kind who uses aimbot and still loses. Lol.
  • When you cheat, you can win over many people but still lose to one thing. HIV…do repost the same shit after you gotta the first prize
  • This is not a relationship. U are on your own if u encourage cheating.

CRIMINAL SYNDICATE MEMBER JAILED FOR EXPLOITING GST SYSTEM FOR CRIMINAL PROFITS

0

On 4 August 2021, The Police charged six individuals from a criminal syndicate for their alleged involvement in a Goods and Services Tax (“GST”) Missing Trader Fraud (“MTF”) scheme.

Lee Chong Hoong (“Lee”), a director of a Singapore-incorporated company, Nagore Trading Pte Ltd (“Nagore”), is the first member of the criminal syndicate to have pleaded guilty. He was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment on 6 October 2022.

Perpetrators of MTF schemes seek to exploit the GST system in order to generate criminal profits through a series of sham transactions. These sham transactions ultimately form the basis of fraudulent GST refund claims made to IRAS, or are used to defraud innocent parties into participating in the sham transactions, by deceiving them that they would be eligible to make such GST refund claims.

In this case, a Singapore-incorporated GST-registered company, Nagore, was involved in a GST MTF scheme. Nagore was a shell company with no real business operations. Its role in the GST MTF scheme was to generate false invoices to support the sham transactions in the scheme.

Between 4 February 2015 and 28 January 2016, Nagore forged at least 183 sales invoices for purported sales amounting to approximately S$56 million. These forged sales invoices, together with other documents, were used to support Nagore’s declarations of about S$114 million in fictitious sales in its GST filings. They also formed the basis for the submission of fraudulent input tax claims by other entities amounting to approximately S$8 million.

In particular, between September 2015 and January 2016, Lee and three other co-accused persons used Nagore to perpetrate the GST MTF scheme. He was personally involved in the forging of 28 sales invoices of Nagore for purported sales exceeding S$11 million to other shell companies.

After operating for close to a year, Nagore ceased its operations sometime around 28 January 2016.  Thereafter, between February 2016 and March 2016, Lee was further involved in the forgery of at least 409 sales invoices when Nagore was subsequently being audited.

Lee pleaded guilty to and was convicted of one count of fraudulent trading under Section 340(5) of the Companies Act for being a knowing party to Nagore commencing business for a fraudulent purpose. Two other charges for conspiracy to commit forgery under Section 465 read with Section 109 of the Penal Code amalgamated under Section 124(4) of the Criminal Procedure Code were taken into consideration by the Court for the purposes of sentencing. Court proceedings for other individuals involved in the fraudulent scheme are ongoing.

The Police and IRAS take a serious view of GST MTF offences, and will not hesitate to take stern enforcement action against perpetrators of such arrangements. Offenders will be dealt with severely in accordance with the law.

In addition, from 1 January 2021, any GST-registered business that claims input tax on any supply made to them which it knew or should have known to be part of a Missing Trader Fraud arrangement, will be denied input tax and be subject to a 10% surcharge on the input tax denied. Businesses are therefore strongly advised to perform due diligence checks and take appropriate actions to address the risks identified to avoid participating in transactions suspected to be part of a Missing Trader Fraud arrangement. For more information, please refer to the e-Tax Guide “GST: Guide on Due Diligence Checks to Avoid Being Involved in Missing Trader Fraud”.

MAN EXPLAINS WHY EMPLOYERS IS NOT ASSIGNING TASK TO EMPLOYEES

0

If your internship/job is not assigning you any work, it could mean a few things.

1. Management sucks

Some bosses just don’t care. When school sends interns they see it as cheap labour or corporate social responsibility. They will pay you minimum and not invest anything into you. They may see it as a burden. They see you as a shadow and don’t expect anything from you other than to not make trouble and not disturb the full timers. These bosses don’t realise that interns become future ambassadors for the firm and that treating interns poorly will backfire eventually. You probably won’t want to work here full time. Another thing could be that the bosses just don’t know there is a new intern, which then again says something about how they are managing their team.

2. People are too busy

People are too busy to cut out work that is simple enough for you to do without having to teach you. If they give you something difficult, then they have to spend time to teach you. If they give you something too simple (print papers, bind documents, scanning, filing) they might feel bad. It’s hard to find something with an appropriate difficulty level for you, especially if your office is doing something very technical and which requires experience e.g. engineering.

What you can do

1. Ask the managers/other people in the office for work (which is what you are already doing, so great!)

2. Spend the time learning stuff online e.g. python/excel/powerpoint and learn vba, power bi and the advanced user stuff. These softwares are used in almost every company and the skills will be transferable so you won’t be wasting time. Don’t be afraid to let others see that you are using the time to learn stuff, especially since they already said they had no work for you. It’s better to openly watch Udemy videos than to secretly pretend you are working when you have nothing on hand. At least if you get ‘caught’ then people can assign you something!

3. Ask the full timers if they have past projects which they have completed which you could look at. Reports, etc… Just so you get what the deliverables look like so that when someone has work for you If the office uses some specialised software/process, ask for where you can watch tutorial videos/learning material for it. Don’t be afraid to cold call people in the office especially if they are in your organisation chart.

4. Do not feel like it’s your fault. Sometimes the person in charge of you just doesn’t have the capacity to teach you and it can be demoralising when your fellow intern seems to be learning many new things. Do what you can by speaking up and keep a log of what you do every day, so at least at the end of the internship you have something to be proud of.

5. Try to join the full timers for lunch, its an opportunity to network, add them on linkedin but don’t gossip. You can talk about neutral things like hobbies, what they did over the weekend, casual stuff. It would also be a great chance for you to ask things like what skills are important, what is something they wish they learnt in university that is very useful in this role. People are always happy to give advice, it makes them feel good about themselves haha.

6. It’s definitely not an ideal situation and contrary to what others may say about how having no work makes a dream job, this is not a good situation to be in for a long time. It is bad for your learning, career advancement and for your own mental wellbeing. (Who wants to go to ‘work’ and do nothing useful yet not be allowed to go out and do your own thing?) If it’s your full time job, speak to your manager, else transfer departments, else change companies.

All the best and I’m sure you’ll do well. An experience like this is something you can use to answer this question at a future interview: “Describe a difficult situation you had at work.” But be discerning and don’t just rant about the bad company, focus on what you learnt and how you took initiative despite the challenges.
