Jeffrey Pe, now 45 years old, allegedly assaulted a then-20-year-old male victim during a celebration for the latter finishing his NS.

He is facing three charges of penetrating the alleged victim who was too drunk to consent to the acts at the time of the incident, and faces a potential jail term of up to 20 years along with a fine and caning.

What happened?

Pe first met the alleged victim at a pub around 23 July 2017, and the latter had just recently broken up with his girlfriend at the time and wanted to know more women, according to Channel NewsAsia (CNA).

The two then became friends, and Pe then invited the victim and a woman that the latter was interested in, to his birthday party on 29 July 2017, and they also exchanged numbers.

Pe and the victim went out on 8 August 2017 to celebrate the latter’s ORD (Operationally Ready Date, when a serviceman finishes his NS), according to TODAY.

They drank at Chinatown before heading to Pe’s condominium, and the victim then asked if he could stay over, and Pe then allegedly made the victim an alcoholic drink before offering him some clothes to change and his bed to sleep in.

The victim then declined and chose to sleep on Pe’s bedroom floor instead, and he later woke up and found his jeans and underwear pulled down will Pe allegedly performing oral intercourse on him.

Pe also allegedly used his fingers to penetrate the victim from behind.

The victim then called a friend and said that he was raped by Pe, and reported the incident to the police on 9 AUgust at about 5.47am, saying that “a guy just tried to rape me. I have known him for a few weeks, he was very intoxicated. He is at home right now.”

The authorities then went down to Pe’s home and arrested him.

A former resident of a 4-room flat at Compassvale Road, 64-year-old Mr Huang, said that he can no longer tolerate the complaints of his neighbours against his 9 aircon units at home, and moved out of the unit.

Speaking to Shin Min Daily News, Huang said that his neighbours had “ganged up” against his and went to the authorities and the media.

He has since relocated to an executive flat in Sengkang, and added that he will bring over 8 of his aircon units to his new home.

He said that he has come to terms with spending an estimated $20,000 on the move to his new home, and that he had to forfeit the $7,600 deposit for the abrupt termination of his previous unit’s lease.

He also had to pay for the reinstallation of the aircon units in his new home, but said that it doesn’t matter as long as he can live comfortably.

Neighbours complaints

The complaints against Huang’s 9 aircon units hit the headlines last month.

Huang has liver cancer, and previously said that he spent $13,000 installing the aircons at him as he needed them to feel comfortable at home.

He also wears several layers of clothes at home after turning the temperature down to 18 degrees because he believes in “keeping the body” as it “helps to improve immunity”

One of his neighbours complained that the condensation from Huang’s aircons made his floor wet, and that his family has been stepping on a cold and wet floor every day.

27-year-old Muhammad Ibrahim Abdullah was driving along Ang Mo Kio Industrial Park 2 on 19 April 2020, heading towards Ang Mo Kio Avenue 5, when he fell asleep while driving.

He then beat a red light and mounted the pavement on a park connector, before stopping.

Ibrahim pleaded guilty on 21 September to one count of driving rashly and endangering human life, and was sentenced to 6 days imprisonment and banned from driving for 15 months.

What happened?

On 19 April 2020, Ibrahim was driving along Ang Mo Kio Industrial park 2 heading towards Ang Mo Kio Avenue 5 in his van, before mounting a curb along the park connector.

He was aware that he had mounted a curb but didn’t reverse back onto the road, continuing to drive along the pavement for another 1.2km before finally coming to a stop at the end of the PCN.

Another driver who had to brake his car to avoid a collision with Ibrahim’s van, approached Ibrahim’s vehicle and found him with his head on the steering wheel.

Ibrahim then woke up when the driver knocked on his window, and he (Ibrahim) told the driver that he was tired and wanted to go home when he was asked if he was okay.

The driver asked him to remain where he was and wait for the police to come, but Ibrahim then drove back onto the road and ran his vehicle into a railing and a bollard along the way.

The concrete wall along the park connector was grazed as a result, and the bollard was dented – but there were no injuries in the incident.

The van’s license plate was later traced by the police to a company, who then identified Ibrahim as being the assigned driver at the time of the incident.

Worked overnight and was tired

Ibrahim said that he had worked as a lorry driver from 18 April 2021 at 10.30pm to 6.30am the following day, before going on to start his second job as a food delivery driver.

He later fell asleep at the wheel in the afternoon while driving home.

A 71-year-old elderly resident who lives in Bukit Panjang, is suing the Holland Village – Bukit Panjang Town Council for compensation after falling into an uncovered drain, citing negligence for failing to cover the drain.

She suffered a severe rupture of her left foot ligaments and broke her right middle finger during the unfortunate incident.

The accident took place on 8 February 2021 at Block 276 Bangkit Road at Bukit Panjang, according to Lianhe Zaobao.

She elderly woman was on the ground floor watering her plants that day and was returning home when she fell into the drain that was not covered, resulting in her injuries.

She blamed the town council for failing to ensure the safety of public areas and allegedly sought compensation worth more than $30,000 for her medical and transport fees.

Town Council’s response

The town council has since denied all accusations of negligence, and highlighted the flaws in the elderly woman’s argument.

After the division of the constituency back in 2001 and the TC taking over of matters relating to maintenance, some drain covers were removed to facilitate cleaning and to check for breeding mosquitoes.

They added that given the resident’s stay in the area for more than 30 years, she should be familiar with the area.

They added that since the woman was maintaining the illegal plants she had there, she should’ve been aware of the drains.

The outcome of the case has yet to be ruled, and the judge hsn;t set a date for the ruling yet.
