0

58-year-old Madam Xu, spoke to Shin Min Daily News and said that over the last 3 years, the population of the chickens in her neighbourhood had grown to more than 20.

She lives at Block 454 Sin Ming Avenue, and had to tolerate the sounds of the wild chickens clucking all day and all night, affecting the residents’ sleep.

Xu added that even closing the doors and windows of her home proved useless, as the noise was still coming in and affecting their rest.

Her husband and daughter often don’t get enough sleep and they have to wake up early for work, and she needed to do something.

So she spent $6,900 on renovations to soundproof the two bedrooms in her home.

Population control

The authorities previously set up a task force back in March, comprising of the residents and representatives from NParks to control the population of the chickens at Sin Ming.

NParks conducted an investigation back in May and found that there were about 69 wild chickens in the neighbourhood.

The public has also been urged not to feed the chickens to avoid them overpopulating the area, and signs have also been put up in the vicinity.

WOMAN TRAPPED IN LOCKED TOILET FOR 2 HOURS, END UP NEED SCDF TO RESCUE HER

Singer Yanni Ruth Chin shared on TikTok on 12 September how her friend Mandy got stuck inside the toilet in the middle of the night at about 2.30am.

She said that they have been trying to unlock the door for close to 2 hours without success, even dismantling the entire handle from the door.

Mandy had found herself locked and trapped inside the toilet, and her friends tried to unlock the door from both inside and outside, but failed.

They took down the door handles and they could see Mandy through the holes on the door, and explained how she has no access to food, except for tap water.

They eventually gave up and had to call the SCDF for help, because many of the locksmiths were not available at the time.

She said: “Before we called SCDF for help, we called multiple locksmiths but were unavail/too long, and we also tried opening it ourselves or else we wouldn’t. So thank you SCDF for helping us! We really appreciate all that you do even for a small incident like this!”

The SCDF officers eventually arrived, and they managed to get the poor woman out of the toilet.

WOMAN’S GRABFOOD PICKUP ORDER WAS ACCEPTED, REACHED THERE & SEES IT CLOSED DOWN

TikTok user @mainetaiko, shared a video on 13 September about how she placed a pickup order from Ice Edge Cafe at Simon Plaza via the Grabfood app.

She said that there were no mentions of the store being closed down, and that she was still able to add their food items into her cart just like any other orders.

Everything had went “smoothly”, but she did notice that her order’s estimated ready time was 10 minutes, which she found “off” because cafe meal orders usually take 20 minutes.

She paid no heed to it and thought it was an application glitch, before going ahead to place her order, which went through and was accepted.

She later arrived at the cafe to pick up her order and saw that the cafe had closed down, and was in the midst of being demolished.

The cafe has since reached out to her and explained that they have closed down, and they were just as perplexed as her as to why and how her order went through.

She has also reported the incident to Grab, who have yet to respond at the time of writing.

JAPAN TO RESUME VISA-FREE TRAVELS FOR TOURISTS IN OCTOBER, NO MORE DAILY CAP

0

The Japanese government plans to relax the COVID-19 border rules in October and restore it to a level close to the pre-pandemic level.

It will be open to accepting independent tourists, allowing tourists such as the United States to stay for short-term visa-free. It will also cancel the daily cap on the number of people entering Japan, and seek to obtain economic benefits from foreigners visiting Japan.

Previously, the Japanese border control allowed a maximum of 50,000 visitors a day and it required a tour group booking that did not allow visitors to freely travel outside of the stipulated itinerary.

Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida will announce the above measures soon. The specific relaxation period of the border rules will be determined after observing the COVID-19 situation in Japan and abroad. Certain conditions, such as vaccination, will remain.

In view of the depreciation of the yen against the US dollar against 140 yen in the exchange rate, Japan is striving to obtain tourism demand in autumn and winter. At present, the peak of the ” seventh wave” of new infections in Japan has passed, showing a decreasing trend.

Previously, the Japanese government suspended the entry of foreigners in principle in late November 2021 . Since March , business people and international students have been allowed to enter on the condition that the receiving unit manages it, while tourists have been allowed to enter only for group tours accompanied by guides since June, and the relaxation of COVID-19 control has been opened in stages.

The Japanese government has previously declared that starting from September 7, as long as 3 shots of the vaccine have been administered there will be no need for a negative certificate of testing. The maximum number of arrivals has been increased from 20,000 to 50,000 a day, and it has also restarted accepting group tourists without a guide.

In the next stage, the lifting of visa exemption and free travel will be combined with the measures to cancel the upper limit of the number of people entering the country.

Before the epidemic, Japan exempted visas for short-term stays (up to 90 days) in 68 countries and regions including the United States. At present, all foreigners are required to obtain visas, and the procedures are time-consuming and become an obstacle to visiting Japan.

Kishida mentioned the recovery of inbound tourists at the economic and financial consultation meeting on September 14, saying that “relevant measures need to be taken to strengthen the ability to make money that can take advantage of the current yen depreciation.”

WOMAN PAID CONTRACTOR $180 TO REPAIR AIRCON, 1 HR LATER CANNOT TURN ON ANYMORE

0

Facebook user Cecada Lim shared how she paid $180 to repair her aircon, and it stopped working after that and she couldn’t turn it back on anymore.

Here is what she said

Just got scam by AMBIENCE COOL AIR CONDITIONING. They got an Indian worker to check my aircon, assure me everything is working well compressor is good only need to change PCB for $180.

Trusted him so when he change PCB and it worked, I didn’t switch on and off to test while he’s on site at my client’s place. Turn off aircon, paid him nicely before he left. Within less than 1 hour, I tried turning on and it stopped working. Called the Indian worker, he didn’t answer, texted him no reply. This went on for 2 days. I use another number to call him then he answered. Ask me to call his office.

Spoke to Danny and told me there was no warranty. I said even no warranty cannot be within 1 hour or less no refund…there’s lemon law. He verbally challenged me to take him to court. Btw, he verbally agree on the phone on a 2 day warranty before sending his Indian worker over. I told him to get someone to check as I cannot believe it’s spoilt even before it started working. Each time I called using different numbers (otherwise he won’t answer) he said he will come but no show after waiting for 3 days!!

Refused to answer to messages and calls. Had to play cat and mouse game by using different numbers to call. Each time they hurriedly brushed me off or said will call me back but never did. Almost 1 week went by and still refuse to refund.

All these while, I tried to remain cool and calm as my objective was to get my problem solved. After much struggling, Danny gave me another number to call Junhui. Had to call him repeatedly using different numbers to check what time they will show up after waiting for days! This Ah Beng scolded me for pushing him to confirm a time and started cursing my parents. Danny then reluctantly sent the same Indian worker over to check. He came, this time he said my compressor is spoilt when just days ago he said my compressor was good and working well! I asked for a refund he told me to call his office and left in 2 minutes!!

Did an ROC check and realised this is a sham company operating from home by an Ah Beng Junhui. Home address is:

*Address redacted*

No wonder their reviews are so bad! I’m paying a price for trusting crooks without prior check.

As a Singaporean, I am so ashamed with such business ethics. I can’t believe it still happen in this time and age especially with the power of internet and media.

Even when I bought items from Lazada or taobao, when proven with pics and videos, they will refund or replaced. This is so shameful especially over.$180! Goes to show that their reputation is worth less than that!! This is a clear cut hit and run business.
