COMPANY HIDES DETAILS OF REMUNERATION PACKAGE UNLESS INTERVIEWEE ACCEPTS JOB

0

Is it a common practice now for companies to reveal their remuneration package only after a verbal acceptance from the candidate?

Graduated recently and have been job hunting. Interviewed with a reputable company and the hiring manager called me a day after my interview to let me know that they would like to offer me the role.

However, when I asked if I could review the remuneration before accepting the offer they said it’s not according to their SOPs and can only send it to me after a verbal acceptance.

Remuneration is a very essential factor for me in deciding whether to accept a job offer or not… so i found it very sus but said the company is very well known in the industry? would appreciate advice thanks!

Here are what netizens think:

  • I suspect it’s a black shop, better report your interview experience with MOM and check first
  • Request an employment contract draft. It must include KETs like your pay rates
  • It’s shady AF. But still the choice is still yours if you find the compensation is not something that would work for you.
  • The whole package in details may be not. But at least they should tell u what is the base pay, if you have AWS, leave entitlement, etc. This sounds sus af to me
  • This is not common practice. They know you are fresh grad not much job hunting experience, trying to play you.
  • Not common , usually they tell u the base pay and benefits when they offer. But since its a verbal acceptance u can say u accept on the condition they send the details of job pay and benefits along w the contract for ur review

SCAMMERS PRETENDING TO BE FRIENDS MANAGED TO SCAM $4.5M FROM 1.1K VICTIMS

0

The Police would like to alert members of the public to a persistent trend observed in relation to a scam variant, which involves scammers contacting victims through phone calls, pretending to be their friends, and thereafter asking for financial assistance. Since January 2022, at least 1,098 victims have fallen prey, with total losses amounting to at least $4.5million.

In these cases, the victims received phone calls from unknown numbers with the “+” prefix. Upon answering these calls, the callers would not identify themselves and instead ask the victims to guess his identity with questions such as: “Guess who am I?” or “You can’t remember me?”. Thinking that they were acquainted, the victim would answer with the name of a friend who they thought most resembled the caller’s voice. The caller would then assume the identity of the said friend and would claim to have lost their mobile phone or changed their contact number. They would then ask the victim to update his number in his contact list. A few days later, the caller would contact the victim and ask for a loan to help them tide over their financial difficulties or trouble with the law. Victims would be provided with a local bank account or phone numbers to transfer money to. Victims would only discover that they had been scammed after contacting their actual friends whom the scammers had impersonated.

The Police would like to advise members of the public to adopt the following precautionary measures:

  • Beware of calls with the “+” prefix, especially if you are not expecting an international call;
  • Beware of unusual requests received from phone calls or messages, even if they appear to be from your family or friends; and
  • Verify whether the request is legitimate by checking with your family and friends through alternative means such as physical meet-ups, video calls or email other than using the contact details on your phone.

For more information on scams, members of the public can visit www.scamalert.sg or call the Anti-Scam Hotline at 1800-722-6688. Anyone with information on such scams may call the Police Hotline at 1800-255-0000 or submit information online at www.police.gov.sg/iwitness. All information will be kept strictly confidential.

KAREN’S DINER WITH FAMOUS “TERRIBLE & RUDE SERVICE”, SET TO OPEN IN S’PORE

0

Karen’s Diner, an eatery that is famous for providing deliberate terrible and rude service, is set to have a pop-up in Singapore.

The diner, which has permanent outlets across the United Kingdom and Australia, serves commendable burgers with rude service by their wait staff.

They serve food such as burgers, hotdogs, milkshakes, desserts and alcohol.

Customers under a certain age are not allowed to enter the eatery due to the unsavoury and sometimes vulgar service by the staff (which is part of the gimmick).

Children under 14 years old will not be allowed entry for lunchtime, while those under 16 will not be allowed entry for dinner.

Karen’s Diner warned via a disclaimer on their website that “language may be offensive and inappropriate”, and they advise those under 18 to visit before 5pm.

At the time of writing, there has been no confirmation on when the pop-up of the diner will launch, but a waiting list has since opened on Explore Hidden.

The website states that the diner will be open in the “winter”.

MUM ELECTROCUTED TO DEATH IN SHOWER AFTER WATER HEATER MALFUNCTIONED

0

a 33-year-old mother was getting ready to bathe her 2-year-old daughter in the toilet when she was electrocuted to death following a water heater malfunction, according to The Mirror.

The incident happened on 25 August at about 2.30pm, at a home in Berisso, Buenos Aires, Argentina.

The 33-year-old Paraguayan woman, Geronima Sunilda Sanchez Aquino was about to bathe her toddler when her electric water heater malfunctioned and electrocuted her to death, with her 2-year-old daughter narrowly escaping electrocution.

Emergency personnel were unable to save the woman.

The mother had collapsed after being electrocuted and it was only her daughter’s crying that caught the attention of their neighbours, who then called for help.

Investigations revealed that the incident happened because the electric heater was poorly installed, as well as the deceased’s own negligence.

They described the installation of the water heater as “bad and precarious”, and the deceased was found soaking wet and covered in electric wounds.

Her daughter was unharmed.

The incident and cause of death is under investigation and the case has been transferred to the Judicial Department of La Plata.

35 Y.O MAN IN DEBT, ONLY HAS $2 IN HIS BANK ACCOUNT TO LAST UNTIL PAYDAY

I turned 35 today and have absolutely nothing to show for it. I just need some emotional support.
Vent/Rant
I would post to r/depression but there is no activity there.

I just need some emotional support right now. I have only 1 friend, I have $2 to my name in my cashapp that has to last me til Thursday somehow, I’m in a comical amount of debt and now have chronic pain.

Birthdays are supposed to be happy but I’ve just been crying since I woke up, because after 35 years on this planet I have literally nothing to show for it.

I’m just miserable

  •  You gotta learn the lessons from the past, then rip that rearview right off. Metaphorical, don’t destroy your car. Don’t worry about the future. Try to be better than yesterday. Try to get a better job. Changing mindset is key also. Life sucks sometimes but you can still build a good life. You got this.
  • I read a quote the other day that no life is wasted because it’s yours to live and experiencing is the only purpose. That was reassuring to me. Maybe it is to you too.
Keep on experiencing. It’s the only thing to achieve. All subjective status symbols society insists we should want is the equivalent of one monkey screeching that their tree branch has the best colour of bark.

GUY SAYS HE HAS “NO MONEY, NO LOOKS”, FAILING WITH GIRLS & NOW CONSIDERING GUYS

0

How do I cope as a below average guy(21M)? Honestly I don’t have money, height (1.67) or looks.

I’m currently an undergraduate at a local Uni embarking on Y3 in a stem course. All around me are peers who are taller, richer, better looking many of whom have current and or past relationships.

I have a small circle of friends which is mainly from this study group which we have had since our first year.

I tried dating girls but I get like 1-2 matches a months and I swipe ALOT. It’s super sad cause a lot of these people will just leave you on read and expect you to carry the convo .

I also asked out some of the girls who I studied with and hung out with but they all friendzoned me.

I’m 21 and I never had a gf ): still virgin. I’m legit so down bad I’ve been thinking about dating guys. Can anyone here give some advice pleaseeee

Netizens’ comments

  1. You need to be comfortable in your own skin first and like yourself. That will translate to self confidence and attractiveness to women. Women don’t just look for handsome, tall or rich guys, they want someone confident with a sense of humour and someone with good character. If you are desperate for a gf, it will obvious to them and it will be a turnoff.
  2. To be honest, If I were you, I would rather focus on myself and loving yourself. With that, you could possible build some self confidence and eventually, you’ll match with someone someday. Im 28, dated a few girls before and am just enjoying my life as a single while all my friends are either married or getting married.
  3. Anyway, a good portion of the population are below average so it’s not the end of the world. Money can be earned, looks can be improved. But if you look around there are many ugly or poor people in happy relationships. So maybe you’re looking at the wrong things. And honestly, nothing screams creepy more than a desperate guy.

FRESH GRAD KENA FORCED TO WORK OT WITH NO PAY & ONLY HIRES MANDARIN SPEAKING

0

Hi, I am a fresh grad In my first job now, engineering related. Just wanna ask seniors who have grad is my workplace culture a norm ?

No fixed lunch break its ranges between 12- 3+ (usually 3 pm)

The department manager will scold everyone in daily morning meetings for hrs (almost daily)

No basic office supply such as water cooler, fridge , pantry, coffee, stationary etc

Document in traditional Chinese and openly mock others when they consider hiring non-chinese speaking people

Unpaid OT everyday

Asking for engineering improvement project as probation criteria

I don’t know, I don’t have prior experience in other jobs and not sure if I am just being a “strawberry” or is my concerns valid and if should I consider changing jobs.

Here are what netizens think:

  • That’s usually what being an engineer in manufacturing is like. Very normal toxic culture
  • Just by staying in that job is deep disrespect for yourself and also supportive of that environment- breeding source of greed and ugliness in humans
  • Is the senior or dept head someone u want to be 5 years later?
  • Sounds like a typical SME or taiwanese company. Is that a taiwanese semiconductor mnc?
  • This sounds like Japan’s black companies in documentaries
  • Sounds like Austrian labour camp, work your ads off for checking if the toxic gas works to make people work
  • Seems like the company is trying to push for improvements but the people working there are too old and does not know the current trends. good to know how things work manually, then jump ship. If is really too hard, is ok to jump out now as well, but with a job offer secured of course.
