WOODEN PLANKS ON CEILING FALLS AND ALMOST HITS WOMAN @ FAR EAST PLAZA

The wooden planks on the ceiling at Far East Plaza reportedly fell and narrowly missed a woman on the 2nd floor.

The wooden planks were then picked up and taken away by staff members of the shopping mall, and nobody was injured in the freak accident.

Shin Min Daily News reported that the incident took place on 10 August yesterday at about 9.45am, at the open area near the 2nd floor escalator of the shopping mall.

Eyewitnesses said that they saw several wooden planks falling from the ceiling, with debris from the collapse being left behind in the vicinity.

A shop owner who was opening his store said that he heard screams emanating from the open area and saw a woman covering her head while walking away from where the planks dropped.

The shopping mall’s staff then arrived to cordon off the area and clean up the debris, and were reportedly seen carrying the wooden planks away.

GF PAISEH TO USE CAR RENTAL, RATHER TAKE GRAB SO PPL WON’T KNOW THEY GOT NO CAR

0

A netizen shared how she feels ashamed whenever she and her boyfriend uses the BlueSG car rental, and that she would rather take Grab.

She says that she has no problem with her boyfriend not having a car, but feels embarrassed when others look at their car rental at traffic lights, and when they alight from the car at carparks.

She added that “if we can’t afford then just take Grab or something, at least people won’t know we don’t have a car”.

She then asked if she should suggest to her boyfriend to stop using the car rental.

Netizens’ comments

Ever since the pandemic, my bf and I have tried to minimise taking the public transport when going out for short dates to places that isn’t accessible by walking from our houses.

However, my bf and his family don’t own a car, so what we have done is to use the BlueSG car rental thing. Although I did not voice out, I can’t help but feel ashamed whenever people look into our car at traffic lights and when we come out of the car in carparks. My bf is comfortable with it though.

To clarify, I have no issues with him not having a car. But I feel like if we can’t afford then just take a grab or something, at least people won’t know we don’t have a car. A car rental just outrightly shows people that we don’t have a car and I feel like it’s kind of loser to try so hard to find ways to want to drive.

Honestly, is it bad of me to feel this way and should I suggest to my bf that we should stop using this car rental?

WOMAN WEARS TIGHT RED DRESS TO GET “CHI KO PEK” BOSS’S BUSINESS & IT WORKS

0

I just clinched a major business deal today after making a presentation to a group of middle-aged men. Since I have to present with a mask on and cannot rely much on my facial expressions, I decided to increase my chances by wearing a little tight red dress with a deep V neckline, showing lots of cleavage. Certainly, it worked well on this group of Chee Ko Peks.

My husband, though, wasn’t too happy about my outfit. Can’t he understand that I need to deal to keep my job, especially since he has just been retrenched?

I wonder what his reaction would be if he knew that I wasn’t wearing my pants under the red dress to avoid panty line showing…

Am I right or wrong to do so?

Here are what netizens think:

  • Maybe you should change your profession that focus on using your body to make big money.
  • Aiya, as long you don’t go a step further for money then ok liao, but it always starts from some where.
  • Most ah pek they not as interested as you think, they old liao not working also.
  • I also chee ko pek big boss leh, you want find me for business anot. I ensure a very smooth transaction.

FOREIGN WORKER KILLED AFTER BEING CRUSHED BETWEEN BUS AND PILLAR @ KRANJI

0

A 43-year-old Chinese national working as a driver died after being trapped by a pass against a pillar at a bus interchange at Kranji.

The fatal workplace accident happened on 3 August at about 11am, and took place at 60 Jalan Lam Huat in Kranji, according to the Ministry of Manpower.

The worker’s death makes it the 32nd workplace fatality so far this year, with 4 more months to go.

The deceased was guiding a bus into position next to a pillar at the bus interchange at the time, and he ended up being crushed against the pillar by the bus.

He was subsequently sent to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries and passed away.

According to MOM, the parking space for the bus was occupied by ComfortDelGro Bus, and the employer of the worker is Singapore Towing Equipments.

MOM has ordered the employer to stop all their vehicle towing from non-public roads and building premises while the accident is under investigation.

They clarified that employers and supervisors must conduct safety assessments and ensure that their workers are aware of the safety measures required during the guiding of vehicle’s movements in tight spaces.

They added that traffic management plans must also be in place, with clearly demarcated parking areas and the use of humps, convex mirrors and signs to manage blind spots.

MAN DESCRIBES APPLYING FOR A JOB AT GOOGLE, GOOGLE HIRING TEAM ANSWERS

0

I recently applied through a friend at Google – but for me, the application process already took away my hope.

Although being recommended by someone inside at least gives you a promised reply within two weeks (in comparison to no reply due to too many applicants [I applied once before for another job and the email I got stated very clearly that I shouldn’t get me hopes up regarding a reply]).

Here is what I learned during that process and some questions that came up.

  1. If you do not belong to the top of your class – chances are slim (I thought Google moved away from looking at grades – but my contact pointed out to me that my chances might be slim due to my poly grades; my University grades are way better though.)
  2. Googles does not need job reference letters – why not? They actually would have helped in showing that I for a fact am a hard/smart worker, get stuff done and am quite smart and liked.
  3. Keep the cover letter short – about half a page actually is enough. And really sharpen your content to fit the job description. How can you convey something about you in such a short letter?
  4. Lie?! I was not told to lie but make everything sound better than it (or I) was. Maybe that’s true for every company – but how am I supposed to feel good about myself and a possible interview if I oversell myself.

My family is really excited about this application but I actually won’t get my hopes up. The process already stressed me and made me feel very small although I know that I’m quite capable. I just felt quite left alone – stop being yourself and be someone better. I am sure working at Google is great but how does it feel like for someone that maybe got in and is not as smart as everyone else?

How much higher are the chances of being considered for a job interview if you got recommended vs applied through their site?

Google hiring team answers

I work at Google, and I sit on a hiring committee that reviews new college grad packets. So here are some facts for you:

  1. Grades are not a factor. I’ve never even seen a high school transcript.
  2. most important thing is to rock your interviews. Great interview scores will get you hired even if your transcript is just so-so. But a great transcript can make a difference if your interview scores are borderline.
  3. don’t be too discouraged if you don’t get hired the first time you interview. It isn’t necessarily a reflection on you. Google’s hiring process is really tough, and our philosophy is that it’s better to miss a few good candidates than it is to mistakenly hire a few duds. Many people reapply a year or two later and do get hired.
  4. you didn’t say what kind of position you were applying for. If it is a software engineering position, make sure you study up on basic data structures and algorithms before your interview, and especially tree structures. The are lots of websites out there with example questions.
  5. don’t try to BS your way through a question if you don’t know the answer, and ask questions if you are stuck. Pretending is an instant fail.

GF LIED TO BF ABOUT HAVING NO DRIVER’S LICENSE, BUT SECRETLY DRIVING A PORSCHE

0

What should I do if I realised my girlfriend lied to me?

I just discovered it yesterday – while I was held her handbag, as she went to the toilet. Her phone rang. Being her boyfriend, I fished for her phone from the bag, which is the epitome of a huge mess (we both have access to each other phone’s incase y’all think is unethical to do so) but realised that she had a Porsche carkey while doing so.

I was quite shocked at that point because she claimed that she doesn’t have a driving license, so why is the key in her bag???

So I trailed her after she got off the MRT and realised she drove off in a Porsche sports car, the convertible kind, which was parked under her HDB block. I don’t even know what model is that cos I’m a poor human. I was confused.

I thought of many possibilities at that point of time. Does she have a sugar daddy, without my knowledge? But which sugar daddy gives their sugar baby a car or a Porsche??? Or did she cheat on me with a rich brat??? Or is she rich herself? Like what’s with that car?

Obviously, it wasn’t rented, because I don’t see any car rental logo and the car has been there since the first time I visited her house.

I always assumed it was someone else’s car. But if the car is hers, then why can’t she tell me??

I’m so lost right now, I don’t even know how to bring this matter up. Help a bro here guys. Please. I really like her.

She is a really really nice girl and I always thought she was genuine, which is the main reason why I pursue her. But she lied. I don’t know if I still can trust her words now. Haizz.

GF DEMANDS BF TO PAY FOR HER AIR TICKETS CAUSE HE EARNS $100 MORE THAN HER

0

My bf and I have been together for two years, and since I graduated from uni in May we’ve been long-distance.

We can only see each other when we fly to each other and that means paying for air tickets.

We were planning to visit each other at the end of the month; since he has better opportunities to visit me during the school year, we decided I should go visit his hometown at the end of the summer.

The problem is that this trip is going to be pretty expensive for me… $1100 in flights, and I’m losing another ~$600 by taking that week off of work, so it’s costing me $1.7K total. I don’t have tons of expenses, but I’m going to school full time starting in August, with very limited opportunity to make money.

I don’t have much in savings and I’m trying to save more for moving out/the future/undergrad student loans. Long story short, spending a thousand is a big deal for me, and I’m worried about it.

Every visit to each other means buying air tickets and sometimes we will plan where there is a discount in the flights.

My boyfriend, who is in a much better financial situation than me, generously offered to help pay for my ticket. But for some reason, I feel like I shouldn’t accept his money.

But I was pretty ready to demand him to pay for it if he never offer to pay cause he makes $100 more than me, I know this sounds contradicting but hear me out.

I’m pretty aware of the difference between our finances, and i don’t know, it just feels kinda like charity for him to have to pay for my travel expenses.

He doesn’t really understand my concerns about this and the cost in general… to him, it’s money spent on something valuable to both of us, and since he has more money he should pay for some of the visits.

I just hate having to be a charity case. It makes me feel even worse about being so behind financially, to the point where I’d almost rather suck it up and pay for everything.

CARPARK GANTRY MOVING BY ITSELF @ BEDOK, HUNGRY GHOSTS ALSO NEED PAY FOR PARKING

A video emerged online showing a carpark gantry moving up and down by itself, presumably because it was malfunctioning.

However, some netizens have linked the malfunctioning gantry to the supernatural, relating it to the Hungry Ghost Month.

The incident happened at a carpark along Bedok South Road and was captured on the dashcam of a car that was trying to exit the carpark.

The driver was seen driving forward through the carpark exit, as the quiet atmosphere coupled with the stillness of the night added to the eerieness of the surroundings.

The driver was seen slowing down as he approached the malfunctioning gantry, as a cockroach was also seen scurrying about on his windscreen.

The driver then hurriedly bolted through the gantry and took off, driving down the road and away from the gantry barrier.

Hungry ghosts also need to pay for parking

Netizens have since commented on the video, joking that the hungry ghosts are not immune to parking fees and charges.

  • Many of them driving out during this time
  • Come on la. Its 7th month. A lot of them are going out. You think free meh? Of course must go through the gantry.
  • It’s that time of the year so this is normal.
Hey it’s a great opportunity to sharpen your driving skill ya
How to get through the gantry without getting hit
  • Im more amazed at the cockroach crawling across your windscreen…
  • 7th month loh… The gantry opening for ALL kinds of vehicles passing…

MAN REFUSES TO GET LOW-SALARY JOBS AS HE IS FROM A “PRESTIGIOUS UNIVERSITY”

0

I applied for a job that I was very interested in and felt would be a good step forward for my career.

This week I got the offer for the job, where they informed me of the salary. The salary is less than I earn now, but the benefits are better. After looking at our budget with my wife, it’s not feasible to take the new job without a major lifestyle change.

Also it does not make sense for me to take a dive in my salary as I graduated from a prestigious university.

No way I will let my degree that I worked hard for and spend years paying back the loan go to waste with a job of such low salary.

My wife called me arrogant, but this is the difference between elite and normal local peeps.

Here are what netizens think:

  • I’d flat out tell them your concerns. Say “thank you for your offer, but I’d like to negotiate the wage as I currently make $x at current company and after looking through budgeting, I cannot make anything less than that.” See if they would be willing to match or give you even more money first before you turn them down.
  • What prestigious university? I have no degree and I don’t even have a diploma but I am probably earning more than you can imagine. I own a coffee shop and 2 restaurants.
  • Definitely communicate your salary requirements. If they cannot meet them, just let them know that you are grateful for the opportunity, I would love to stay in touch, but that you are worth more money and therefore cannot except the position. No one cares what degree you have.
  • Your local or whatever prestigious degree will only hold value in a very big MNC job or a government job.

GF LENT FRIEND $700 FROM JOINT-SAVINGS ACCOUNT WITH BF, ANGRY AT BF FOR BEING ANGRY

0

My bf and I have a joint savings account. I’m a student while he’s been working for two years so he’s the only one contributing to the account.

A few months ago, a good friend of mine wanted to buy something expensive so she borrowed $700 from me. My personal savings account has very little money so I used money from the joint account to lend my friend.

My friend told me that she will return me the money by last month but she hasn’t done so. I’m not surprised because she has a habit of forgetting to return money e.g. whenever we go out to eat, I would pay for the meal first but she would often forget to return me her portion of the bill. Although she is a mutual friend of me and my bf, my bf dislikes her because of this.

Today, my bf asked me if my friend has returned me the $700. When I told him that she hasn’t returned, he asked me to remind her to return the money. I told him that it would be embarrassing to ask her to return the money. Thus, he said he can help me to ask her to return the money.

$700 is not a big amount so I don’t understand why he is so determined to get the money back. Granted, that $700 comes from the joint account, which consist of his money. But since it is a joint account, the money inside also belongs to me. That gives me the right to do whatever I want with the joint account. If my friend really forget to return the money then so be it. I would just take it as I bought a $700 gift for my friend. No big deal.

I really hate that my bf is so calculating. Why would he even want to ask her to return the $700? It’s not even a lot of money. I really hate guys who are calculating. Should I just dump him?

Netizens’ comments

  • It’s not a lot of money because it’s not your money.. since you are not earning yet you don’t know the feeling of “losing” $700 just like that. Unless she needed it for life saving surgery, pls tell her to return HIS money. It’s only joint in name. You lack basic respect for your bf and you definitely don’t deserve him. Even if you contributed money to the account, joint account means you consult EACH OTHER before you touch it. Find a sugar daddy and have him put money into YOUR OWN savings account, then you can call it your money.
  • I think your boyfriend should dump you away! He deserve a better girl than you. You don’t even contribute anything in the joint account & still dare to talk so much. Just because you are so easy, that’s why your friend always took advantage of you.
If you think $700 is not a big deal, then why not you yourself top up back the money in the joint account? You should share a thought & try to put yourself in your boyfriend’s shoes. He contribute in the account but you didn’t.
If you are capable enough, you don’t even need a joint account with your boyfriend. Since $700 to you is not big amount, you should spend your own bank account money.
I’m not sure how old are you, but please wakeup & face the reality.
