The Police have arrested a 38-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of loanshark harassment.
On 5 August 2022, the Police were alerted to a case of loanshark harassment, where the gate of a residential unit along Pasir Ris Avenue 6 was secured with a black bicycle lock, with a debtor’s note pasted at the gate.
Through investigations and with the aid of images from Police cameras, officers from Bedok Police Division and Ang Mo Kio Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him on the same day.
The man will be charged in court on 6 August 2022 under the Moneylenders Act 2008 For first time offenders, the offence of loanshark harassment carries a fine of between $5,000 and $50,000, with mandatory imprisonment of up to five years, and mandatory caning of up to six strokes.
The Police have zero tolerance against loanshark harassment activities. Those who deliberately vandalise properties, cause annoyance or disruptions to the public sense of safety, peace and security, will be dealt with severely in accordance with the law.
Members of the public are advised to stay away from loansharks and not to work with or assist the loansharks in any way. Members of the public can call the Police at ‘999’ or the X-Ah Long hotline at 1800-924-5664 if they suspect or know of anyone who could be involved in illegal loansharking activities.

They have been complaining about noises like footsteps, dragging of furnitures, dropping of things etc. They always came up to argue with us (most of the time we tried to talk nicely to them but they are always yelling) and both parties have called the police (us calling for harassment, them calling for noise) and we have still yet to resolve our dispute after multiple confrontation.
Recently, they came up to us and told us that they have been collecting enough evidences (video/sound recording) of our footsteps/furniture dragging etc. And will be filing a court order against us. While we tried to tell them that we did try our best to minimise noise level, they somehow thinks that we are deliberately stomping our feet to annoy them. They said it affected their life so badly that they got a warning letter from work for being late (because of the “footstep noises” they could not sleep so they are often late for work) and they are going to court to sue us for compensation and apology.
Honestly……. I’m not sure if my family and I are that fat to the extend that its disrupting their sleep……. besides we are also asleep at night lol. Who is walking around at night? ????
I have also filed a report against them for harassment (they kept coming up to look for argument!!!!) and I’m not so sure what else I can do (talking to them nicely is out of the question now – they yell when they see us lol) Do we just wait for the court letter or should we do something about it before it gets worse? ……..
The Police have arrested a 26-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of theft.
On 4 August 2022, the Police received a report from a female victim who informed that an unknown man had purportedly stolen cash amounting to $700 from her along Eunos Road. Preliminary investigations revealed that the man had approached the victim and her friend and had allegedly deceived the victim into conducting a check on her personal belongings before fleeing with her money.
Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from Police cameras, officers from Bedok Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him on 6 August 2022. Preliminary investigations revealed that the man is believed to be involved in another similar case of theft at Geylang.
The man will be charged in court with theft on 8 August 2022. The offence of theft under Section 379 of the Penal Code 1871 carries an imprisonment term of up to three years, a fine, or both.
The Police have zero tolerance towards such brazen acts of crime and will spare no effort to apprehend such offenders and deal with them in accordance with the law.

Upon checking in the airline told us that the booking reference only my friends’ names on the booking except mine. As my friend had booked the tickets through 3rd party apps, we had to call the customer service hotline to verify.
Time was ticking fast and we had not enough time to get through the customer service hotline as it’s busy during that hours. So I decide that they go without me as I don’t want them to the waste tickets because of me.
Ended up I had to U-turn and went back home which is at Jurong (a long journey for me).
As I was about to reach home the airline called my friend and said that actually there was a ticket booking under my name and advise me to immediately proceed to the check-in counter.
Infamous scandal-ridden Cathay busker Jeff Ng, is set to proceed with his plans to perform at a concert after hinting at it on a radio show.
The 32-year-old previously declared back in June that he would be having a “real concert” this month (August), but was hit by scandal after scandal following his declaration.
Speaking during a show on Capital 958’s livestream on Friday, Ng said that he has a “surprise” for everyone in September.
He said it is considered something “personal” but that the tickets to his concert will go on sale this month, adding that “it’s easy to figure out what (he) is referring to”.
Ng added that he will also be performing at Gardens By The Bay on National Day, as well as at the Tampines West Community Club on 13 August.
He is also set to perform at “private events” for National Day.

Confronted fan for unfollowing him on IG
A netizen shared a conversation he/she had with the maligned busker, with the latter confronting the netizen for unfollowing him.
Ng asked the netizen why did he unfollow him, and asked him to “tell me the truth”.
Ng then went to the netizen’s Instagram profile and cited his bio, saying that he “hates liars too” and asked the netizen “are you a liar?”.
The netizen then told him that he unfollowed him because he wants to, and added that ‘personally I don’t even know you?”

Called out for being “entitled”
A Facebook post by a local musician, Khim Ng, emerged online, exposing Cathay busker Jeff Ng for allegedly being “entitled”, according to AsiaOne.

Apparently he still SCOLDS patrons for “making noise” during his sets. ( evidently) I mean, there’s no entitlement for any of us that’s been in the scene LONGER than him to behave this way. So why should he be?
Bar owners will understand, as entertainers, our customer’s fun and pleasure is our priority. Maybe the Busking scene does suits him cos its not a bar setting and no one is intoxicated with alcohol to “misbehave”. And he deserves that love received with the right setting he is comfortable in. Kudos to that.
Will he succeed? If he does, good for him. If he doesn’t, he brought it upon himself. No matter how he and his “fans” wanna help him delete n report negative comments(which are NOT UNTRUE), his bad behaviour be it in the past or now will come back and bite him again n again if he doesn’t change or apologise.

Allegedly sabotaged friends’ flight tickets, left them stranded in Taiwan
Another local musican, Ariane Goh, shared about how she was with 2 of her friends in Taiwan verifying their check in details at the airport for their flight back to Singapore, when they were told that their return flight dates were changed, and authorised by another passenger under the same itinerary.
The itinerary had 4 passengers listed on it, with 3 of them being present at the airport, and the 4th being a man named “Jeff Ng” who cancelled his trip with them due to personal reasons.
The tickets under the group’s name were changed except for Jeff’s, and his ex-girlfriend then told them that he had changed all of their return flights by “accident” while making changes to his own return flight.
The netizen then questioned his motives, asking “Why would you change your return ticket when you did not even depart in the first place?” Seemingly insinuating an attempt at sabotage.
Some netizens have claimed that the Jeff Ng from this incident is the Cathay busker, who was earlier exposed by his ex-girlfriend for being the “worst person” she has ever met.

To those who are concerned, I have touched down safely in Singapore at 1am after what is possibly the worst that can happen to anyone of us. Thank you to all who has raised your concerns and to friends who even came down to pick us up at the airport. I speak on behalf 2 of my friends who were on flight with me.
As we were verifying our check in details at the counter enroute for our flight back to Singapore on 29/8, we were told by the counter staff that our return flight dates were changed from 29/8 to 24/8, 2 days after our departure flight date, authorized by a passenger under the same itinerary.
The itinerary had 4 passengers listed, with 3 of us present at Taoyuan International Airport. The other passenger was Jeff Ng, who chose to cancel his trip with us due to personal reasons. We then found out through a phone conversation with the Jetstar customer reprentative from Singapore that a transaction of SGD200 was even made for the above change and changes were made on our day of departure, 22/8 while we were on the flight to Taipei, with no wifi access on board.
We were told that only tickets under our names, excluding Jeff Ng’s were changed. Mistake? Coincidence? I really doubt so.
We were left stranded and panicking for a good amount of time at the airport under tremendous emotional stress before deciding to purchase return flight tickets on the same flight at a hefty sum.
I was then told by his ex girlfriend who confronted Jeff Ng that he made changes to all of our return flights by accident while making changes to his own return flight. Question: Why would you change your return ticket when you did not even depart in the first place? Then again, you did not even make any changes to your flight, did you?
Thanks to this girl, our money was reimbursed by Jeff Ng almost immediately upon touch down. Then again, SGD1800 is nothing as compared to the pain and the emotional rollercoaster that we had to face in the last 6.5hours, rushing from counter to counter and from gate to gate.
As much as I am trying to keep this post as ‘a matter of fact’ post, I have to say that I am utterly ashamed that I was once kind and patient to someone like that. Getting back at me this way for helping your ex girlfriend move on from you is definitely creative.

UPDATE (30/8, 7.50pm): We called Jetstar this afternoon to try to retrieve the transaction history. According to another Jetstar customer representative, it was certain that Jeff Ng made the change of all of our return flights, including his, on our departure flight date on 22/8 at 6am. Our departure flight was scheduled at 7am, where he had no intentions to fly that morning as his final decision was made known to his ex girlfriend through a phone conversation at 6.14am.
Though we have some clearing to do with Jetstar as to why their information provided from the same branch can be vastly different, we still question the motive behind the change of return flight dates to 2 days after the departure flight date made by Jeff Ng 15 minutes before check in closes, especially when he does not have the intention to fly.
I really would like to believe that it was an accident that 3 of our return flights were changed along with his, but logic tells me that it is not possible with all the supporting proof we have from reliable sources.
Unhappy with fans chatting in his stream, threatened to leave
Ng was apparently not happy with fans for chatting during his online performance, and threatened to leave the stream if they don’t leave.

Other allegations emerged
Ng also purportedly wrote a lengthy Facebook post, blasting the sound crew following a performance at the Esplanade Concourse.
He described the sound crew as the “worst” and said that it will be his last time performing there “even if I make it big one day”, before adding “unless they can guarantee they tour me around and give me the best sound”.
On 3 Aug 2022, Singapore Customs conducted an operation in Choa Chu Kang and arrested a 37-year-old male Chinese national for dealing with duty-unpaid liquor and seized 11 bottles of duty-unpaid liquor.
The man had allegedly requested his relative to purchase the liquor in China and ship them over to Singapore without paying the relevant taxes. He would then advertise and sell these duty-unpaid liquor on a social media platform.
The operation led to a seizure of one Singapore-registered car, 11 bottles of duty-unpaid liquor and they are serious offences under the Customs Act and the GST Act.
Investigations are ongoing.
Penalties
Offenders can be fined up to 40 times the amount of duty and GST evaded and/or jailed for up to six years. Manufacturing dutiable goods or having in possession any still, utensil, apparatus, equipment or machinery for the manufacture of dutiable goods without a licence are offences under the Customs Act.
Offenders can be fined up to $5,000 and/or jailed for up to 18 months.

Former SIA air stewardess Amber Tan, shared a video onto her TikTok account @heyamber.tan, recounting her experience staying in a haunted hotel in Taiwan.
She said that she was staying at the Grand Hyatt hotel in Taipei at the time and was woken up at about 1am in the middle of the night.
She had heard footsteps running all around her room and her bed was being violently shaken by an invisible entity.
She was alone in the room at the time and noticed that the lights at her room door were flickering, as well as hearing the toilet flush by itself.
Tan said that she felt a very weird presence that was waiting for her “to just run past the toilet”, but she didn’t do so and hurried looked for her room’s bible.

On 5 August 2022, Lai Chee Keong, a 71-year-old male Singaporean, was charged in court for his suspected involvement in money laundering.
On 18 September 2020, the Police received a report from a victim of an Internet Love Scam that she was defrauded into transferring $4,950/- to a bank account as a result of meeting someone online.
Social Media
Investigations revealed that the victim had befriended an unknown person over a social media platform. Within a month of getting to know the other party, the victim was promised a parcel delivery containing money and jewellery.
Subsequently, she received messages from a purported delivery company that her parcel had arrived at Customs, but she was required to pay $4,950 in order not to subject her parcel to investigations for money laundering. The victim did as instructed and transferred $4,950 to a nominated bank account, which turned out to be a bank account belonging to the 71-year-old man.
A total of seven bank accounts are alleged to have been involved in these offences, with five of them belonging to Lai Chee Keong. Of the remaining two bank accounts, one belonged to his wife and the other belonged to his friend. Police investigations show that a total of $222,193.25/- was transferred by victims of Internet Love Scam into these bank accounts.
Anyone found guilty of acquiring, possessing, using, concealing or transferring benefits from criminal conduct, under Section 54 of the Corruption, Drug Trafficking and Other Serious Crimes (Confiscation of Benefits) Act 1992 (“CDSA”), is liable to be punished with imprisonment of up to 10 years or to be fined up to $500,000, or both.
The offence of possessing or using property that may be reasonably suspected of being benefits of criminal conduct and failing to account satisfactorily how the person came by the property, under Section 55 of the CDSA carries an imprisonment term of up to 3 years or a fine up to $150,000, or both.
The offence of carry on a business of providing payment service without licence under Section 5(3) of the Payment Services Act 2019 is punishable with a fine up to $125,000 or to imprisonment for a term up to 3 years, or both.
A Foodpanda rider was supposed to deliver $160 worth of pizzas to a customer, but the order was then cancelled after the customer failed to pick up his order despite repeated calls.
The rider, Lutfil, then decided to give away the pizzas to nearby residents, and he posted a video of himself sharing the joy on TikTok on 7 August.
Two big plastic bags of boxes of regular-sized pizzas were seen in the video, and Lutfil revealed that he got in touch with Foodpanda to ask them for help after he couldn’t reach the customer.
Foodpanda then told him that he could do whatever he wanted with the pizzas and he decided to distribute them all.
He gave a box of pizza to a man who was sitting down at a HDB void deck, who then bowed his head to Lutfil to thank him for his generosity.
Lutfil then went to his own HDB area to give out pizzas to his neighbours, who were pleasantly surprised at the free food.
One neighbour even asked him if he had enough for himself, to which Lutfil said that he was on a diet and wasn’t intending to keep any for himself.
Lutfil then rode along Pasir Ris to look for more people to give out his pizzas to, before finishing his distribution by giving away the chicken wings that came with the pizzas, to a group of guys.
