RYAN TAN RETURNS $1K TO STRANGER AFTER NETIZENS REVEALED RYAN IS “RICH”

Former co-founder of YouTube channel Night Owl Cinematics Ryan Tan, has returned the $1,000 donation that he received from a stranger after he posted about being “broke” and “barely holding on”.

The stranger who transferred the $1k, Khoo Keat Hwee, spoke to AsiaOne saying that Tan had declined to accept his donation.

The 35-year-old kind samaritan said that he didn’t want his money back, and that he didn’t donate the money to Ryan for publicity.

He had posted a TikTok on 25 June sharing how he donated $1,000 to Ryan after the latter’s story of being broke struck “close to his heart”.

Netizens then sent him messages telling him that Ryan is actually “rich”, pointing out that the latter lives in a penthouse which went through a renovation that costs about $200,000 in 2020.

Khoo later shared a second TikTok video explaining that he had misunderstood Ryan’s meaning of being broke.

Recap

Former co-founder of Night Owl Cinematics (NOC) Ryan Tan, confessed in a post on social media that he was “officially broke” 6 months after leaving the company that he co-founded with his estranged ex-wife Sylvia, following widespread allegations about the latter’s alleged infidelity and mistreatment of their employees.

The 33-year-old posted on his Instagram stories earlier in the week that he was “officially broke” and that “it’s not a joke”, revealing that he had lost more than 90% of his money since he left NOC.

He added that he’s “barely holding on”, and that his income took a hit due to his legal issues, starting new companies and having no revenue.

However, he did add that his freedom is priceless so he’s not that down about it.

Following his confessions on social media, a few netizens have reached out and donated money to him, with the owner of Mentai-Ya Japanese Cuisine, Khoo Keat Hwee transferring $1,000 to Tan to “help his team a lil”.

He also posted a video onto his TikTok account, Mentaiya Keat, saying: “idk much about noc nor ryan but i came across his stories. my 1k is small but should help his team a lil. Bro lets jiayou and pick up from where we all fell. Lets learn and grow from our pain & mistakes.”

@kayakak idk much about noc nor ryan but i came across his stories. my 1k is small but should help his team a lil. Bro lets jiayou and pick up from where we all fell. Lets learn and grow from our pain & mistakes. #respect @Ryan Tan ♬ At My Worst – Pink Sweat$

Khoo spoke to AsiaOne and said that Tan’s story resonated with him, because when he (Khoo) fell, he ran away and didn’t dare speak to many.

He commended Tan for daring to put down his ego and admit that he messed up, and that he thinks “its okay to give up $1,000 to root for someone who is going through bad days”.

Tan then thanked the kind samaritan on his Instagram stories, describing his donation as “crazy”.

Tan then thanked all his supporters for the messages and told them not to worry, as “business is like that, have ups and downs,” and that he’ll “find a way, I always do”.

GUY CAME UP WITH SOB STORY TO BORROW MONEY, THEN BLOCKS GIRL & MIA

A Facebook user, Joyce Lwy, shared how she lent money to a guy who told her that he’s sick, and that his bank account was “frozen” for some reason.

He then told her that she is a girl, and that if he runs away with her money, it will be very “xia suey”; trying to convince her to lend him money.

After she lent him money, he then kept coming up with excuses to repay her and in the end, he blocked her everywhere.

Here is what she said

I don’t want my money anymore. But your face need to be thrown.

Scumbag told me he’s sick, bank acct got frozen due to some issues. Therefore money was all withdrawn out to him. (So got cash no money to pay online food)

Acted all pity infront of me for food money, complained to me how his friend is not willing to help as well. He swear off by telling me if he don’t return me $ as a guy very xiasuey.. Indeed now you very xiasuey.

Deleted and blocked me off from everywhere.

Wtf. It’s just $200 only. I’m donating it to you to see “doctor”

FYI – He told me he handled his family funeral business and some in some event company.

Then continued off by telling me that he just finished his surgery and was hospitalised in TTSH for a month or so, kept going in and out of CGH and TTSH bec condition is bad.

Things got fishy when he kept delaying despite promising a date.

When i told him i wanted to go down today to collect money, he started giving excuses that he had no idea whats his ward and bed. Reason? “bragging” on upgrading bed to A ward.

Anyone who knows him please stay away from him, i was informed this is not his first time scamming.

Please kindly repost!

KINDERGARTEN TEACHER LOOKS LIKE ANGELABABY, DADS FLOCKING TO SCH TO SEE HER

A doppelganger of Chinese actress Angelababy emerged recently, with a kindergarten teacher in China receiving a lot of attention due to her resemblance to the actress.

The kindergarten teacher is reportedly described as being an elegant individual and is attracting quite a crowd at the school.

The student’s dads have been flocking to school to catch a glimpse of the teacher, with even the fathers who usually don’t pick up their kids from school fighting to go just to look at her.

The media is also reporting that the unnamed teacher doesn’t just look like Angelababy, she also possesses a certain aura and elegance about her that’s reminiscent of the Chinese actress.

She is also described as being very attentive to the young children.

However, due to the attention that she is getting from the children’s fathers, their mothers have been none too pleased about their husbands fighting to see her.

Some of the mothers have even requested that the school fire the teacher.

NSF SCOLDS BACK OFFICER WHO SCOLDED HIM, SAYS HE “STOOD UP FOR HIMSELF”

0

I decided I’m not gonna take crap from anyone this day onwards

Since BMT, I’ve been fearful of officers & being out in public while in uniform. Becos of that, ppl hv taken advantage of me & gaslighted me as well. Always put me in fear.

After a recent talk back in camp with a officer, I decided that I ain’t gonna take shit from no one. Basically, a LTA from across the building kept calling out to me saying oi oi, ur jockey cap not aligned properly. I dunno what got into me, I called out to him, u from there u can see ah? u eagle ah? from so far u can see ah?

He got shocked by what I said. I didnt care anymore, didnt wait for his reply. I just left him to amuse himself. I was taken aback u know like omg did i rlly just do that?

Before my fellow ASA ORDed, he told me some of the officers in this camp like to flex on ppl & gaslight them. I didnt take his suggestions srsly, but after a couple of instances it happened to me, I was rlly like wtf. So I decided not to take shit from officers in camp.

Those officers who call me out, saying hello hello excuse me i talking to u, Im just gonna ignore them straight & not entertain them. Im not gonna be a puppet anymore. Unless it’s a safety issue or a protocol issue such as entering certain rooms or etc, then I’ll follow their instructions.

But if randomly I get called out in camp for no reason, I’m just gonna ignore them. Carry on with my day and not get my day ruined by some arseholes.

In uniform in public, there were a couple instances where ppl pushed me around. At first I was scared, if I said or resisted, I’d be on facebook or stomp etc. So the first instance was, I was standing in train near the door, where there’s the glass panel & a space for u to stand in.

The train wasn’t that crowded at 2pm, and some old lady bitch, kept sayign excuse me excuse me, so I was like wtf she want sia. I avoided her. But when she started shouting excuse me, I looked at her and I moved. She then went onto take my standing space at the glass panel. Wtf!

Last wk, another such instance. This time returning home from camp in train. Managed to find a seat in a rlly damn crowded train at 6pm. Sat down & watching youtube.

This guy guess in his 60s comes in and stands in front of me. Kept staring at me as if i owe him money. This woman I guess in her late 30s who was sitting beside me, nudged me & told me to give up my seat to the old man. I looked at her and asked her, why dont u give up urs? She didnt say anything at all. I just shut her up. What a hypocrite haiz.

Ppl hv nth btr to do but make u their puppets. Play with u. Im not gonna give them this opportunity anymore.

I realized that standing up for myself, it gave me a lot of confidence. It allowed me to not hate on myself everyday. This world is a dog eat dog world. From this day onwards, Im not gonna take shit from ppl. If ppl push me, Im gonna push back.

BUKIT MERAH SLASHING VICTIM – FIGHT STARTED OVER $1 CHANGE FROM 3 YRS AGO

A video emerged online showing an uncle being slashed in the head by another man wielding a chopper on 29 June, at Block 111 Jalan Bukit Merah.

The elderly man, Mr Chen, spoke to Lianhe Zaobao and said that he was attacked because of an argument that he had with the attacker over a change of $1 for fried dough fritters about 3 years ago.

He said that he only met the attacker 4 times, with the first time being when he went to Telok Blangah Food Centre to buy some fried dough fritters and was short changed $1 by the man.

They then argued with each other and he never went back to patronise his stall again.

Chen was with his friends at the coffeeshop on Wednesday morning watching other people playing chess when the fried dough fritters seller charged at him with a chopper.

Chen slipped and fell while trying to escape and ended up being slashed on his head, as passers-by threw chairs at the attacker to try and thwart him.

The attacker was eventually subdued and pinned down before the police came and arrested him.

Chen was sent to SGH where he got 7 stitches for his wounds.

GIRL’S BF QUITS HIS JOB TO PLAY MORE GAMES, WANTS TO BE A PROFESSIONAL “YUGIOH” PLAYER

0

Boyfriend quit his job this morning to play more fortnite and become a professional yugioh card player
He’s 24.

This is obviously going to put the brunt of the financial responsibility on me. He’s not willing to budge as he says working is too stressful and takes too much time out of his day away from Fortnite.

He wants to spend the time playing yugioh cards with his friends to ultimately play competitively and be the best in the world.

This clearly isn’t normal. Should I move on?

Netizens’ comments

  • Yes, yes you should. By all means he can follow his dream, but why are you financing it? Time to move along and find someone that isn’t using you.
  • “I’m thrilled you are following your bliss. I too am going to follow my bliss, which is finding a responsible partner to share my life with. Which you are not. I wish you very well with your future endeavors.”
  • Give him a dose of reality.
We all have dream jobs we wish we could have. But the bills still have to be paid while we work toward those goals.
Unless he is financially independent (meaning he has plenty of money in the bank to live off of indefinitely, while chasing his dream), then he needs to maintain a job and help with finances.
If he still refuses to see the light, send him packing back to his family. They can coddle him. That’s not your job and he’ll become a dead weight and financial burden you will absolutely resent! Especially since being able to get paid for doing those things is extremely difficult to break into and even when you do, it’s not a stable financial plan anyway.

S’PORE BIKE KENA HIT & RUN BY M’SIA BIKE, CAN’T CLAIM INSURANCE AGAINST FOREIGN VEHICLES

A motorcycle in Singapore was hit by a Malaysia registered motorcycle in Singaproe, and the rider said that he can’t claim insurance because the offender is a foreign vehicle.

Here is what he said

Today I had my first hit and run motorcycle accident.

My rear camera shows a Malaysian bike JTT7515 crash into my rear, breaking my rear reflector, causing me to fall hitting my head on the ground so hard my helmet visor shattered and flew off and sustaining damage to my bike,

then the rider backs off and rides away..

My insurance company NTUC says they cannot claim against a Malaysian vehicle even if the accident happens in Singapore and that vehicle is ridden in SGP by a Malaysian working here..

what injustice.. I feel upset and angry but I am told nothing can be done…

2 MEN TO BE CHARGED: IMPERSONATE AND CHEAT DRIVING THEORY TEST

The Police will be charging two men, a 28-year-old man for his suspected involvement in attempted cheating by personation and another 51-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a conspiracy to commit cheating by personation.

On 28 June 2022, the Police received a report on persons cheating during a test. The 28-year-man had allegedly impersonated the 51-year-old man to take the Computerised Theory Driving Test at the Singapore Safety Driving Centre located at 2 Woodlands Industrial Park E4.

Through extensive follow up investigations, officers from Woodlands Police Division arrested the two men on the same day at the said location. Investigations revealed that they had conspired to cheat as one of them had impersonated the other by presenting the other man’s work permit to take the Computerised Theory Test.

The two men will be charged on 30 June 2022. The offence of attempted cheating by personation and the offence of cheating by personation each carries an imprisonment term of up to five years, a fine, or both.

Members of the public are advised not to impersonate other persons. The Police take a serious view of persons who may be involved in such fraudulent activities, and will be dealt with in accordance with the law.

277 PEOPLE FALLS VICTIM TO PRC OFFICIALS IMPERSONATION SCAM THIS YEAR

0

Since January 2022, there have been at least 277 victims, with losses amounting to at least $30.3 million.

Victims would receive voice-recorded phone calls allegedly from the Ministry of Health, the High Court or other government agencies. When the victims followed the instructions on the call to make further contact, the call would be directed to scammers claiming to be a police officer. The scammers would inform the victims that they were being investigated for money laundering and other offences. The scammers would direct the victims to do any of the following:

  • Provide their personal information and bank account information
  • Open bank accounts
  • Transfer money from their bank accounts to other bank accounts ostensibly for the purposes of Police investigations
  • Report their movements daily
  • Meet unknown subjects to hand over or collect fake documents from them
  • Keep the investigations secret

Victims would only discover that they had been scammed when they realised that there were unauthorised transactions made from their bank accounts, or when the scammers did not return the money they had transferred for the purported “Police investigations”.

The Police would like to emphasise that overseas law enforcement agencies have no jurisdiction to conduct operations in Singapore, arrest anyone or ask members of the public to help with any form of investigations. The Police will never ask you to transfer money into another bank account for the purpose of investigations.
