EX-S’POREAN JOINS US MARINES AFTER SERVING NS, SAYS S’PORE SOLDIERS “PLAY RANK”

A former Singaporean who joined the US Marines after serving his national service in Singapore, spoke to a local YouTuber YG from SG in an interview, sharing his experiences with both militaries.

The former Singaporean, Raynor Goh, said that his time in the SAF changed him for the better, despite being ostracised by his fellow NSFs for being “siao on”.

He described his time in the SAF as being a culture shock, as he had lived in the US for most of his life, only returning to Singapore to finish his NS duties.

He shed some light on his time at the Officer Cadet School (OCS) in Singapore, admitting that he wasn’t able to adapt to the new environment and made mistakes.

He shared how he was picked on by the other cadets for his mistakes, and he ended up doing things alone.

Following his stint in the SAF, he then joined the US marines, and said that his time in the SAF forged his mental toughness and resilience to endure the tough training in the US military.

He shared how during his NS days with the SAF, one thing that stood out top him was “playing rank”, and he added that “at the end of the day, a rank is just a rank. A rank signifies that you’re on a higher echelon of responsibility. It doesn’t place you in a position where you’re better than someone else.”

He shared how in the Marines, its different because there could be non-commissioned officers who have seen bloodshed on the battlefield and freshly commissioned officers who have not been to war, and that the officers respect the men because they have more real life experiences in combat.

26 Y.O GIRL DATING VIRGIN IN HIS 30S, ASKS IF HIS VIRGINITY IS A RED FLAG

0

Hi, I’m a 26 yo girl who is just dating a guy in his early 30s. He really looks younger than his age, well groomed and has a good career. But there are some things I came to know about him that never really saw in other guys:

1. He only has 1 relationship which he broke off in his first year of uni due to incompatibility and never dated thereafter. Basically he never dated anyone for more than 10 years. He didn’t explain this long gap.

2. He said he is a virgin. I find it hard to believe given his age and he is not religious. Btw I’m not a virgin myself.

3. He doesn’t have any form of social media on IG or tiktok. He only has facebook. He showed it to me and he has only 15 friends inside and his last post was like in 2016? I tried very hard to search myself and asked my connections but can’t find anything on him.

Are these red flags or just small issues? I find that he is a bit too good to be true and yet I kept thinking about his past record.

Netizens’ comments

  • My husband never dated before. I am his first girlfriend and his last post on social media was also years ago
  • I think it’s small issue, seems like a down to earth guy who focus his time on practical stuff such as his career. I would say he is a good catch.
  • You are the kind of flag he’s been trying to avoid. Red blue orange green or yellow flag doesn’t matter.
To be honest I probably have more faith in him than in you
Actually you know what? Don’t bother dating him, he’s just a Bot

POLICEMAN POSING FOR PHOTOS BESIDE DEAD BODY UNDER BLOCK

Disclaimer: The quoted opinions expressed in the post are reproduced from an online netizen, viewer discretion is advised.

A Facebook user, Tracy Lim, penned a lengthy post on Facebook calling out a police officer who was seen posing for photos beside her deceased auntie’s body.

She called his actions “utterly unacceptable and disrespectful” to her family and herself, and added that it is the “worst thing” that can happen when they found their family member “lifeless” on the ground.

Here is what she said (SIC)

Dear Singapore Police Force, is this how police officers are supposed to treat a deceased? By posing like the body beside was nothing but a background or an accessory to a photo?

Is this how you would like others to treat your deceased family member, to treat a very sad situation where someone is lost?

That was my auntie lying on the ground, motionless, and decided to take her life.

Instead of showing basic respect, this police officer decided it was funny and treated the situation as if it was a happy matter, like he just won a trophy, a game or a prize.

Is a dead body a prize to police officers? Is there no integrity on how a police officer should behave, especially when he is on duty, attending to a case involving casualty?

This is utterly unacceptable and disrespectful to my family and myself and anyone who has been through death in the family.

I do not wish this upon anyone, to have a uniformed officer treating their deceased family member like a joke, for his entertainment.

This is the worst thing that can happen when you found your family member on the ground, lifeless, only to see a police officer making fun of it.

How shameful. Shame of you, SPF. Shame on how you train your police officers.

K Shanmugam Sc, Please re look into how SPF train officers.

Please feel free to share this post, I hope no one will have to go through this like we did; rubbing salt onto the wound by someone whose profession is to protect us.

Apologised for officer’s conduct

The Singapore Police Force released a statement about the incident, saying that they have apologised to the deceased’s next of kin.

Lim has also posted an update about the SPF reaching out to her to express their apologies.

Lim’s update

Update:

Singapore Police Force has called and apologized and we accepted their apology. We appreciate the fast action and assurance they will reinforce on the sensitivity when handling such cases.

We wish to rest the matter and let our family have privacy as we prepare for final arrangement of our aunt.

Thanks you all friends for your condolences and support.

MAN TUTORS SON IN MATHS FOR A WHOLE YEAR, END UP SCORE 6/100 FOR TEST

A video emerged online showing a man crying while pacing around in a room, using his shirt to wipe away his tears as he sobs uncontrollably.

The man in Henan, China, was apparently crying because despite him giving his son tuition for a whole year, his son scored an unbelievable 6/100 on his maths exam.

The boy’s mother said that her son usually scores around 40 to 50 marks on his tests, and at times even scoring an 80 or 90 out of 100 marks.

So the latest 6/100 score was a devastating blow to the boy’s father who felt like he put in so much effort into his son for nothing.

A flurry of encouraging comments came in, with many netizens understanding how the man feels, while others deduced that the man probably taught his son the wrong things instead.

Another netizen asked whether it was possible that the son did it on purpose.

MAN STAYED AT JALAN BESAR HOTEL & BITTEN BY BED BUGS, HOTEL SAYS HE BROUGHT IT IN

A Facebook user, Phia Boo, shared how he stayed in a hotel at Jalan Besar for 2 nights and got bitten by bed bugs, while also lamenting how the hotel didn’t provide him with a refund.

Here is what he said

WARNING

Never! I repeat, Never stay in this hotel.

My friend and I were so petrified and traumatized, after our experience staying in this hotel in SINGAPORE.

First night I couldn’t sleep, I kept scratching myself non-stop throughout the night. The next morning, we found two bed bugs – one small and one large (squished with blood). We complaint and they changed our room and told us they already got the pest control to clean the room for us. We stayed the second night and woke up to find another one on the bed.

Although the staff were friendly and helpful, and offered us to wash our clothes. But sadly, they didn’t offer medical or refund us. We went to the laundry immediately after check out to wash it again with high temperature to ensure the bugs are dead including our bags. We don’t want to bring home the bugs. We go through so much hassles and wasted our time and money. I wonder how they get the “SG Clean Certified” from the government. Ridiculous!

Now, we suffered the itches and ugly rashes all over our body. My friend condition is worst. Rashes keep popping out every minute on our skin. This is our first experience after traveling to so many countries and living is so many different hotels or motels.

This hotel is ST Signature in Jalan Besar, Singapore.

Hotel’s response

ST Signature spoke to Mothership and said that they activated their pest control vendor, Autopest Pte Ltd, to the room after the complaint about bed bugs.

They also said that they conduct weekly pest control service as well as maintenance, and they have a set of SOPs when incidents like these happen.

For cases where there are bed bugs, the room will be fumigated and isolated for 6 days before Autopest follows up on their inspection.

ST Signature also added that the rooms that Boo and his friends stayed in were inspected, and Autopest only found adult bed bugs and no eggs.

They described it as an isolated report from the guest, and that no other activity were observed in their premises.

They added that the bed bugs were “very likely” to have been brought it with the guest’s luggage.

They also added that they have provided a full refund of $163.53 to Boo and his friend.

GUY KENA SCOLDED FOR TEXTING FRIEND “DTF”, BUT HE MEANT “DIN TAI FUNG”

I have been trying to stay in contact with old friends recently and picked up the habit of replying to their Instagram stories. I would ask about what they are doing and stuff.

I come across this friend who posted a IG story of her meal, it was dumplings and a bowl of soup at a restaurant. Seeing the nice quality of the dumplings, I tried guessing where the place is.

For some background information, I live in Singapore where we tend to turn abbreviate many words. One very common example that everyone knows is “HDL” which means “Hai Di Lao”, a hotpot restaurant many people in Singapore love. So it was common to call restaurants in their abbreviations, Macs, HDL, SLF (Another hotpot place).

So with that, I sent her “DTF?”. I meant Din Tai Fung which is a nice dumpling place. I reply to IG stories very quickly and sent it without a second thought.

Few days later I get added into a groupchat, the groupchat contained my old friend’s friends who I barely know. The first message sent was “Do you know why you are here?”.

I replied idk because I forgot about the DTF message. Then came the storm of 4 people absolutely destroying me, calling me a douche bag who thinks he can just hit up old friend no biggy like they are always down to f-. I told them my DTF meant Din Tai Fung but they thought I was trying to lie my way out. I kept trying to convince them, showing them why I sent DTF.

It was going nowhere and I couldn’t find anyway to back myself up because the only message was DTF and nothing else. Eventually they stopped and kicked me out of the groupchat. They are probably off somewhere still talking smack about me while I just lost a good friend of mine all because of a damn abbreviation.

ONG YE KUNG – NEXT WAVE OF COVID INFECTIONS ARRIVED SOONER THAN EXPECTED

0

Minister of Health Ong Ye Kung said on 28 June that the next wave of COvid infections in Singapore has arrived earlier than expected.

Ong spoke to Lianhe Zaobao at the 30th annual general meeting of the CDAC and said that many people travel overseas during the school holidays and that the increase in infections here could be related to that.

He did, however, say that he doesn’t think this wave of infections will be worse than the one in February that was caused by the BA.2 Omicron subvariant.

Ong said that he had earlier mentioned that the next wave could take place around July or August, but it’s now here a little earlier possibly due to the June school holidays.

He added that MOH will continue monitoring the situation, and stressed the importance of ensuring hospitals have enough support.

GF KEEPS COMPARING BF TO HER EXES & TALKING ABT HOW THEY ARE IN BED

0

My girlfriend keeps comparing me and talks a lot about guys she’s been with. And it’s making me worry.

My girlfriend often talks about guys she’s had sexual relationships with. I don’t care about that stuff but it makes me feel like she hasn’t gotten over them.

It makes me doubt myself and insecure. Am I making her happy? Am I too boring? She also tends to compare me to those men.

She compares our “bed sessions” to ones she’s had with others. It’s a real turnoff. I usually get really snappy at her when she talks about any guy.

Even the ones that are just her friends. Because I feel like I can’t trust her if she keeps on doing this?

What can I do to cope with this?

Netizens’ comments

  • Tell her to stop and tell her how it makes you feel.
    Or dump her
Or, and this one is for the chaos, compare her to other girls when she does anything.
  • You shouldn’t ‘cope’ with this. I have never, nor have I even thought about comparing a partner with anyone, especially comparing them in the bedroom to exes.
  • Leave her. Simple enough. There are things you should never put up with from a girlfriend. This is one of them. She’s cutting down yourself esteem and self worth trying to make you feel jealous. Just no. Be prepared for her to complain about how “insecure” you are to her friends.

FIRE BROKE OUT @ BALESTIER RD, SCDF BROKE THROUGH WINDOW TO FIGHT FIRE

[Final update: Fire @ No. 529 Balestier Road]

At about 2pm today (28 June), SCDF was alerted to a fire at the abovementioned location.

Upon arrival, thick smoke was seen emitting from a unit on the ground floor.

Firefighters from Central Fire Station (FS) and Bishan FS immediately donned breathing apparatus sets and proceeded into the unit through its front entrance with a water jet.

To speed up the firefighting operation, firefighters broke through a window and removed some items from the unit to create more space for the firefighters to maneuver safely inside the unit.

The contents of the unit comprised items such as fans, lights, bathroom furnishings and other home hardware fittings.

The fire was concentrated in the back of the unit and was extinguished with two water jets within two hours. Damping down operations are ongoing.

About 10 people had evacuated from the affected premises prior to SCDF’s arrival.

There were no reported injuries.
