LOCAL MAN STRUGGLING BETWEEN BUYING HDB AND CONDOMINIUM

0

A netizen shared a story where he can’t find a home of his choice and seeks advice on buying a flat and taking bank loans.

Here is the story:

Today’s housing market is ridiculous.

Don’t get me wrong, the HDB scheme is amazing and through this scheme the housing authorities really do take care of those who are within that income band with various support measures for those who are struggling to make ends meet as well.

However, there is a group of people that have fallen through the cracks. With this economy in place, wages have been rising and our government has not been keeping up be evolving their income limits together with the growth in wages. What group is that? They are the ones who are early in their careers, hence having a low amount of capital, but holding a well-paying job that puts them just above the income ceiling for affordable housing.

I fall into this category, and even though my girlfriend and I are ready to take the next step to look to live together, we can’t find anything that we are able to afford. We don’t come from affluent families who are able to help us with the downpayment, but our combined income doesn’t allow us to apply for HDBs or ECs. The next level that is available to us would be resale HDB flats or condos.

But looking at the housing market today, Punggol resale flats going for 1 mil, new launch 2 BR condominiums going for 1.8 mil. Floating mortgage rates expected to hit 2+% by the end of 2022, how are we going to afford housing in this market? In addition to that, some basic renovations will at least cost 50-100k. This housing market right now is unattainable. Our governments policies of attracting the rich and wealthy from overseas are backfiring on their own people, with entire clans of mainland chinese moving to Singapore and keeping the bubble growing.

Just frustrated with the inability to move our lives forward, subsidies don’t work for us, affordable housing is not available for us and the next level of housing is getting more and more unattainable.

Financial advice for loans and housing by netizens:

  • There are plenty of houses suitable for u. Just looking in the wrong direction.
  • I think, if the market is not going to change for you, then maybe you should change your lifestyle like reducing the amount of cafe hoping, lesser overseas trip and impulsive purchase etc. make every penny count. If you have a “well-paying job” but “Low amount of capital”, that doesn’t sound like a government problem right?
  • Hdb only checks past 3 months salary when applying for loan etc.One of you go be funemployed and do masters etc. Solved.
  • Wonder where u got the facts. 1M for HDB? Unless u looking for EMs or EAs or prime location dont think u will hit 1M. 50-100k Reno is NOT basic, is extensive. Basic is within 20k, including floor and basic carpentry.U need to do more research, and judging from both of ur income exceeds EC ceiling, i bet u can do better research than this instead of only complaining and waiting for people to help u plan out everything.A couple with more than 16k monthly cannot save up captial? Dunno how u guys spend. Be more frugal, save and u can achieve ur downpayment.
  • Eh, most 5 room at punggol resale at 600k+. What 1M are you talking about.I just shows you are the type of person who fabricate truth, or spin tales to suit your agenda. Sensationalize.
  • Dude, no pun intended. HDB schemes are meant for majority. And clearly with your income, you dun fall into that. Income levels above IS MEANT TO FALL THROUGH THE CRACKS. Duh… Have you consider the feelings of others who are still waiting for BTOs before you post? And resale HDB at Punggol going at $1mil? Which agency u go to? They shld not be practising real estate. Last check, it is closer to $600k manz….
  • Go sit down with a proper property consultant and work out the exact sums. Definitely there’s a solution for profiles like yours. It’s only when you don’t do a professional thorough calculation that your life planning get postponed indefinitely. A combined income of more than $14K can do a lot of things eh! You’re already luckier than many.
  • A quick search on propertyguru will just prove that your statement dont hold water. Punggol HDB resale $1m?

MAN UNWILLING TO PAY ANG BAO FOR WEDDING, QUESTIONS THE COUPLE’S INCOME

0

A man recently shared a story about how he was “unhappy” as he needed to pay for an expensive ang bao.

Here is what he said:

Just received the red bomb from my colleague recently. To my surprise, the couple has decided to hold their wedding at Andaz The Glasshouse and a quick Google search showed that the recommended angpau range is $240-$260.

From what I know, the couple do not come from wealth family and they don’t draw very high income, at max $7000 monthly combined income. I am not sure if they can truly afford this or they are looking to break even with the guests’ angpau.

I did ask my colleague about whether Andaz is too expensive for them but she replied $2k+/table is very common nowadays.

Is it true that $2k+/table is the norm now and anything below is considered less than average?

Netizens said his busy body

  • Why u wanna judge if they can afford the wedding venue or not?  And go gossip to other colleagues somemore on this. The other colleague was being very diplomatic and trying to shut your gossip down by telling you it’s the norm. And you still don’t get it. If you don’t want to give so much ang Bao, don’t give lah. But don’t go around asking other colleagues if this venue is too expensive for them – that’s so disrespectful.
  • Gosh. Their combined income in not your problem. Where they want to have your wedding is not your problem. Whether they can afford the wedding or not is also not your problem. You are basically the problem for being judgemental and gossipy. Why dont you just mind your own business? Why so kaypoh?
  • Just pack an amount which you are comfortable with. No need to bother whether the bride or groom can cover cost. Guests are there to wish them well for their marriage, not there to foot their bill. It’s their choice to decide where to holding but guests shouldn’t be hold hostage to help them cover cost just because they made those decision.
  • Why so you so concerned about whether they can afford it?People thought of you to invite you, simple yes or no would suffice. You’re going to judge the size and cost of the engagement ring and the costs of their other wedding expenses too?

WOMEN BEAT UP BY PRC GANG AFTER SHE REFUSES HIS ADVANCES

0

In a viral video uploaded on Weibo, a man was seen trying to take advantage of a woman who was dining.

After the man was rejected he resorted to an act of violence to “cover” his rejected pride.

He started attacking the woman and the woman’s friend came in to help only to get hit by the rest of the men as well.

Brutal assault

It was not just punches and kicks, the men used chairs and beer bottles to hit the helpless group of women.

The woman was eventually dragged outside of the shop as the group of men took turns hitting the woman at the entrance.

The man pulled the woman by her hair and kicked her head saying “cry, cry some more”.

A woman who is working at the store was seen stepping out of the store and was warned by one of the men to walk away.

One of the men was so dumb that he hit his own girlfriend in the confusion only to hug his girlfriend saying sorry. ( 2min 16 seconds).

The video can be viewed here:

Netizens outraged

The post went viral and many people commented that it is best to ignore them when you encounter this kind of person.

“After reading the news, my mother said, don’t resist, let alone insult them, when you encounter such people, run away when you get the chance, don’t expect others or the police to save you, sisters, don’t be deceived by the ostensible stability in the current society. Even if something happens, the bad guy won’t get the punishment he deserves. It’s not that I’m pessimistic, it’s just that what happened repeatedly taught me how to survive in this society.”

” I have been reminding myself not to go out at night, encountering wicked people is more scary than ghosts, these wicked people have no law at all”

“Men in black clothes and green clothes must be sentenced to death. I’m mad when I watch the video, but if a man goes up and stops it, it will not cause such serious injuries!”

China’s social problems

It is common that no one will help or come in to stop them if such a situation happens as most people do not want to be part of the problem or solution.

Most people in China’s society will ignore, watch or walk away.

INSURER ORDERED TO PAY $7.2M AFTER WOMAN PIAK PIAK INSIDE CAR & KENA STD

0

A woman in the US was awarded S$7.22 million after catching an STD from having intercourse with her ex-boyfriend in his car.

The man’s car was insured by car insurer Geico, and they were ordered by a court to pay the woman the awarded sum of money.

The woman said that her ex-partner didn’t disclose his condition to her, leaving her with past and future medical expenses, on top of her mental and physical suffering.

She had initially sought damages of S$1.39 million in 2021 from Geico, saying that she was covered under their policy.

Geico then denied her coverage, as well as refused her settlement offer, according to The Guardian.

The woman and her ex-boyfriend then went into arbitration where she was then sided with by the arbitrator, according to the BBC.

She was then awarded S$7.22 million in damages, with the man deemed to have negligently infected the woman with the human papillomavirus (HPV).

A court in Jackson County then confirmed the awarding of damages, with the arbitrator determining that the intercourse in the car directly caused or directly contributed to cause the woman’s HPV infection.

Geico will be taking the case to federal court.

GUY CAN’T USE HIS “25CM” KUKUBIRD, SAYS BECAUSE WOMEN DON’T WANT A SHORT GUY

0

I am more on the bad genetic side with a no man’s land height of 171cm.

However, my pencil is of high quality (~15cm default and extendible up to 25cm depending on my mood) so much that John Wick can use it as his weapon anytime.

But here is the problem. No one other than me knows about its existence because girls who I date on the apps typically shun me when they see my height. You know, young ladies these days… are more choosy with height and they themselves are mostly 170cm or above, contrary to the fake disgusting stats on website (160cm).

It is hard for someone like me born in the early 90s to find shorter girls as they are mostly taken by guys like you. Thus, there is no way I can find my future special one to illustrate my potential, my golden pencil.

What is the point of having a good tool when you are short and no one notices you? Likewise it must be pretty sucky for a tall guy like you to have a good height yet with a small tool. But hey, at least you experienced doing the deed, unlike me, evergreen for life.

End of the day, I feel it is better to be a tall guy with a short pencil than short guy with a useless long pencil. I feel like I got shot in the arms, heart left right centre. It is a more terrible feeling seeing so many girls with tall attached guys everywhere I go, holding hands on streets and here I am stuck in this abyss of loneliness and dwarfism.

You have a very good height so please at least be satisfied. I believe height is more important to girls than your pencil. You had it better than me…..

S’POREAN KENA SAMAN FOR SMOKING OUTDOORS @ GENTING BY ALLEGED “OFFICIALS”

A Singaporean man was fined in Malaysia for smoking outdoors, by a group of people who were allegedly posing as government officials.

The man, Mr Tan, told Mothership that he was at Genting Highlands on 3 June and smoking in an outdoor area on the 4th floor of the Resorts World Genting shopping mall, outside Sky Avenue.

He was then approached by a group of people alleging to be officers from the Ministry of Health Malaysia, who issued him a “summons” for smoking there.

There was also no sign stating that it was illegal to smoke there and the only “no smoking” sign was on the wall near the toilets.

Tan added that the “officials” were not wearing any uniforms and didn’t provide any identification to prove that they were government officials.

He was given a fine of RM250 and told by the “officials” that he could pay the fine on the spot by handing them RM150 cash.

He felt something was wrong but decided to just pay the fine on the spot, and filled in the “form” that was given to him with fake information and contact details.

He then saw the “officers” move on to another group of smokers holding on to e-cigarettes, and issued them fines even though they had yet to use the e-cigarette.

The group of “officers” then insisted that they were breaking the law.

8 Y.O M’SIAN GIRL FELL TO HER DEATH IN AMUSEMENT PARK RIDE, LANDED HEAD-FIRST

An 8-year-old Malaysian girl fell to her death at an amusement park in Australia after slipping out of her seat and landing head-first onto the ground.

Deputy state coroner Ian White said in court on Wednesday (8 June) that her death could have been prevented had the operators followed the ride manufacturer’s height requirement.

The girl, Adelene Leong, was with her mother at the Royal Adelaide Show in Australia back in 2014 at the time of the fatal incident, according to The Mirror.

It is unclear if the girl’s parents managed to claim any insurance from the incident.

Landed on her head in front of her mother

She was on a holiday with her mother and was on the Airmaxx 360 ride when she slipped out of her seat and fell to her death.

Leong was flung into the air at first, before landing head-first onto the ground in front of her mother, as well as other witnesses.

She then succumbed to her injuries and died.

Hung upside down by ankle before being flung

The Airmaxx 360 ride was operating at more than 100km/hr at the time and after Adelene slipped from her seat, she was hanging upside down by her left ankle before being flung out, according to The Daily Mail.

The manufacturers of the ride recommended a minimum height requirement of 140cm for the ride, but the operators at the theme park set the height requirement at 120cm.

Adelene was 137cm tall at the time of the accident.

Non-compliance by operators

White added that the operators failed to comply with the height requirements and concealed it for the purpose of expanding the eligibility of patrons to ride on the Airmaxx 360.

The owners, Jenny-Lee Sullivan and Clinton Watkins also did not undergo a required design registration process for the ride, which they bought in 2013, according to 7NEWS.

M’SIA GOVT GETTING RID OF THEIR MANDATORY DEATH PENALTY

Malaysia’s government has come to an agreement to abolish the mandatory death penalty, with the sentencing being left to the discretion of their courts.

Wan Junaidi bin Tuanku Jaafar, the minister in the Prime Minister’s Department for Parliament and Law, released a statement on 10 June, outlining the decision of the government.

He said that a decision was reached after a report presented to the Cabinet about the substitute sentences in place of their mandatory death penalty.

The recommendations in the report by the Special Committee on Alternative Sentences on the Death Penalty were then accepted by the government in principle.

Wan Junaidi also confirmed that the Cabinet has agreed on looking into the proposed alternative sentences for 11 of the country’s offences which carry the mandatory death penalty.

The Malaysian government will also look into the direction of their criminal justice system and its feasibility, like the pre-sentencing procedures, reform of their prisons and “restorative justice” for sentences.

HALF OF JUSTIN BIEBER’S FACE PARALYSED, CAN ONLY MOVE ONE SIDE

Justin Bieber announced on Instagram earlier today that he has been diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt syndrome, and told his fans that his next few shows will be cancelled as half of his face is paralysed.

He could be seen in the video struggling to move half of his face, as he explained that the medical condition caused half of his face to be paralysed due to the virus attacking the nerves in his ear and face.

Bieber explained that he is having full paralysis on one half of his face, being unable to blink, smile or move his nostril on one side.

He said that he will have no choice but to cancel his next few shows until he regains mobility on the right side of his face again.

He addressed disappointed fans, saying that he is just physically not able to do the next few shows and his condition is serious.

He is working on regaining movement on the affected side of his face via facial exercises and assured his fans that he is going to get better.
