TB CLUSTER AT BUKIT MERAH HDB BLOCK, MOH SWINGS INTO ACTION

The Ministry of Health issued a press release on Saturday (21 May) about the detection of a cluster of Tuberculosis cases at Block 2 Jalan Bukit Merah.

Here is what they said

The Ministry of Health (MOH) will offer voluntary Tuberculosis (TB) screening to current and former residents of Block 2 Jalan Bukit Merah, as well as stallholders, shop owners and their employees at that location. This is a precautionary measure following the detection of a cluster of seven individuals diagnosed with TB1 residing in seven different units at the block. The screening will be conducted free of charge and will take place from 27 to 31 May 2022.

2.             Residents, stallholders, shop owners and employees of Block 2 Jalan Bukit Merah are strongly encouraged to participate in the TB screening. For the convenience of residents, mobile teams will go to their home to carry out the screening. A screening station located at the Queenstown Hock San Zone Residents’ Committee (RC) Centre at Block 3 Jalan Bukit Merah will also be set up for those working at the shops and stalls, as well as to cater to residents whose homes are not suitable for screening. Former residents and subtenants who had resided in the block from October 2020 will be contacted via phone call in June 2022 and offered screening at the TB Control Unit  (TBCU). Former residents who had lived in the block from October 2020 and wish to be screened, may also call the TBCU Contact Clinic appointment hotline at 6258 4430.

3.             The risk of transmission to persons who are not close contacts of a TB case is very low. Screening is thus not necessary for individuals who had occasionally visited the block or vicinity.

4.             Staff from the National Centre for Infectious Diseases (NCID), with support from the People’s Association, will be conducting visits to all units at the affected block from 21 to 23 May 2022 to engage residents, as well as shop and stall owners and employees, and encourage them to participate in the screening. While screening is not compulsory, MOH strongly encourages residents to be screened to determine if they have TB disease or infection (which is non-infectious). Persons with positive screening results will be offered appropriate advice and follow-up. Those with TB disease will be treated immediately while those with TB infection will be given appointments at the TBCU and offered treatment to minimise their risk of developing TB disease in the future.

Identification of TB Cluster

5.             MOH was notified on 2 March 2022 of seven TB cases involving residents of Block 2 Jalan Bukit Merah, who were diagnosed between February 2021 and March 2022. All seven individuals live in different units of Block 2 Jalan Bukit Merah. The cases were immediately started on treatment following diagnosis. Amongst them, two have completed treatment, three are currently undergoing treatment while two are deceased from causes not due to TB. As individuals diagnosed with TB will rapidly become non-infectious once treatment starts, the cases are not an ongoing public health risk.

6.             In line with MOH’s TB prevention strategy, the National TB Programme had initiated contact investigations for each of the seven cases shortly after they were notified. Close contacts of the cases were identified and contacted for screening. Investigations for each of the seven cases at the time of their diagnosis did not identify each other as close contacts.

7.             Genetic analysis and links, established in April 2022, revealed that all seven cases have similar genetic make-up. This suggests that these cases are linked by spread from one or more common sources. Investigations into the cases did not reveal any common links, other than that they live in the same block. The cases did not know or interact with one another, or congregate at the same common areas, and had also not identified each other as close contacts. Therefore, as a precaution, we are offering screening for those in the block to diagnose any TB cases that may be present for early treatment.

Health Advisory

8.             The symptoms of TB disease include persistent cough that lasts 3 weeks or longer, low-grade fever, night sweats, fatigue, weight loss and chest pain. TB is typically spread through close and prolonged contact with an infectious individual, and not by contact with items or surfaces touched by a person with TB. Therefore, persons who are contacted and screened following the detection of a TB individual typically comprise family members, close workplace colleagues and acquaintances from common social activities with close and regular interaction. This approach is recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) and is practised in Singapore. Please refer to the Annex for details of TB.

9.              TB is endemic in Singapore. TB infection is not uncommon in our population, as TB had been prevalent in Singapore until the 1970s and older Singaporeans could have been exposed to TB and acquired TB infection when they were younger. Persons with TB infection do not experience symptoms of TB and are not infectious.

10.          TB is curable and the spread of TB is preventable. Early detection and prompt treatment of cases remain important in helping those infected and rendering them non-infectious. For individuals diagnosed with TB disease, adherence to treatment is important.

WOMAN TESTED POSITIVE WHILE ON HOLIDAY, TOLD SHE SHOULD’VE “KEPT QUIET”

A Singaporean who was on holiday in Bangkok tested positive on an ART test on the 2nd last day of her trip, and was sent to serve a 10-day quarantine after reporting her results to the hotel.

The Singaporean, 32-year-old Amanda Lee, is fully vaccinated and currently halfway through her quarantine, and is expected to be “free” on 24 May.

She shared on her TikTok account that she felt “stupid” because she got infected at around the same time as the Vesak Day holidays.

She also had to pay a security deport of $4,000 and couldn’t get in touch with insurance companies because they were closed.

She also added that the doctors are all on holiday and no one could tell her how long she had to be there before she can fly back, and she also can’t change her flight details.

Some netizens have commented that she should’ve kept it to herself and “quietly” fly back to Singapore, saying that she brought this upon herself.

Lee then hit back at the comments, saying that she is trying to be socially responsible.

She said, “honestly, why is that so hard to understand? I didn’t want to get other people sick. I didn’t want to get the people I was travelling with sick,” she added.

“Am I going to wander around Bangkok and get more people sick? No!”

Much respect sister, kudos to you for being responsible.

GIRL’S BF JUST DIED, WAS ABOUT TO START THEIR LIVES TOGETHER

0

My boyfriend died this morning.

I keep crying in waves. It doesn’t feel real. I’m ready for the hospital to call and say he came back to life. I was supposed to be with him.

This man is my soulmate. There is nobody else like him. He is 28, his birthday is next week. I am 23. We renovated a house together and had primary custody of his 4 year old daughter. My life is completely entangled with his.

Every stupid item in this stupid house is him. It doesn’t feel real and I want to wake up. I will never forget his mom calling us and screaming he was dead. We were gonna start a business together, I wanted to have babies with him. He is the most amazing father, he did everything for her. We haven’t even lived here for a year.

I used to see videos of other people who had lost their partner and simply couldn’t imagine it happening to me and my perfect life. If I would have known when I kissed him goodbye that it would be the end, I would have never let him go.

I was supposed to go but woke up with a stomach bug. I should have powered through it and gone with him. He would still be alive.

This pain is unreal. I simply don’t want exist in a world without him. This world is absolutely hell.

HOUSECLEANER WENT WRONG HOUSE, OWNER CAME HOME THOUGHT SHE IS A PROSTITUTE

0

I’m a professional housecleaner. My first house today was beautiful and pretty big (4,000+ sq ft.) I had never cleaned this house before today.

It’s kind of interesting to clean the home of people you have never actually met while they are not home. I never snoop but I do learn about people just by the state of their house or whatever is out. These people seemed like they really needed us. I would guess they are busy and don’t have much time for cleaning and organizing (but definitely have an active S life judging by the master bedroom).

I love cleaning dirty houses and was like amping myself up by doing a mini Rocky training montage warmup and finding the perfect music to work to. I was sweating like 4 hours in but I was getting this house sparkling! All I had left to clean were the floors when a man walked in.

I welcomed him home and let him know I just needed to clean the floors and would be finished soon. He looked super confused and then kind of grinned and asked if I was his birthday gift. I didn’t really know what he meant. Maybe his wife scheduled the service on his birthday? I just answered with, “maybe? Happy birthday, Mr. Henricks!” To which he looked even more confused and told me his name was not Henricks.

Well. That’s because his next-door neighbour, my actual client, is Mr Henricks. I walked my happy self into the wrong house and cleaned the hell out of it. And then the guy who lived there came home and thought I was a S worker role-playing as a housecleaner hired by his wife as a birthday present.

I was so totally embarrassed explaining myself to this guy and my boss. (The entry instructions in the app said the client wouldn’t be home but that there was a key under the mat. There was no key under the mat but the front door was unlocked ). This is not even the first time in my life that I have let myself into the wrong house, although the first time was not a work thing.

On the plus side, the dude was so happy with how clean his house was that I finished the floors and he paid me what my company would have charged him plus a tip!

Here are what netizens think:

  • I mean. Sounds like a happy ending to me!
  • My mom has been a housecleaner for as long as I been alive, damn she knows how to clean a house. She admits she loves the smell of diluted bleach after cleaning and so does her cat, her cat will roll around anything cleaned with bleach and will like rub her face alllll over your hands if they smell like it lol… apparently it mimics some pheromones in wee.
  • At least you still got paid lmao so your efforts were not wasted

MAN SPENT $2K ON A TAILORED SUIT FOR WORK, NOW WIFE NOT HAPPY

0

I spend $2,000 on a tailored suit and my wife is calling me selfish and pretentious

I work in an office and make just a shade under six figures. Pretty good salary, but nothing spectacular. it’s enough for a very comfortable living.

I’m 45, married (she’s 47), and we have two kids, a fourteen year old girl and ten year old boy. My wife is a stay at home mom. We’ve been married seventeen years.

I’ve always wanted to have a nice suit. We’re required to wear suits at work, but for my entire career (I’ve always been at the same company) I’ve always had dumpy suits, the “3 for $200” kind of thing.

I’m not entry level but not management, either.

Let me make it clear that I never deny my wife or children anything and have always prioritized their needs and wants. An agreed upon portion of my salary goes to our savings and retirement, some goes to the kids’ school funds, all our bills are paid, we don’t have any debt.

And my wife certainly has a generous allowance every month to get her hair done, nails done, buy clothes, go to yoga, go to brunch with the ladies and so on. Several hundred dollars a month.

My own, personal expenses are very low. My wife herself cuts my hair, I don’t really buy clothes except for socks and underwear, and my wife is most often the one who buys that stuff for me.

Despite me making a good salary, I can’t really justify getting a gym membership for myself, and I don’t want to glom onto my wife’s yoga because that’s her thing and I want her to have her space.

We have our date nights a few times a month so that’s a shared treat.

Anyway, the point is I’ve always been into fitness and have always been a runner and kept in good shape, especially for my age. But my suits make me look like a doofus.

I’ve always wanted a tailored suit and never owned one in my entire life.

I decided right when pandemic hit that I’d start saving money from my lunch allowance since I didn’t go to the office anymore and set it aside to buy a suit from a manufacturer whose ad I saw in one of my wife’s fashion magazines.

I told her I wanted a suit like that, but my wife just laughed it off. As a side note, just one of her several designer purses costs as much as the suit I eventually got.

Well, fast forward almost two years and I had a nice pretty chunk of change for myself. Even though I returned to the office long ago I got used to just making my own lunch and saving money.

I looked at our expenses at home and didn’t see anything that needed to be bought or repaired. Kids’ college fund is up to date and all debts are paid, wife still gets her hair done and goes mall shopping and gets her salon fix and all that, as always.

For the first time ever, I got myself measured for that suit I wanted. I bought it.

My wife doesn’t really get up before I go to work so the day I first wore it she didn’t see me leave in it.

But she saw me when I got home and she was really shocked and asked me if I went to a wedding without her or something.

I was really proud of myself and told her how I saved basically $20-30 a week for a year and a half and how I got myself that fancy suit from the ad.

She told me I looked really good and I thought she was proud of me for saving money like that. My kids told me I looked like a model. I know they were just building me up but it still felt good.

And at the office people were giving me compliments all day about how amazing I looked in my tailored suit.

Lots of men at work wear tailored suits by the way, and from what I’ve read, tailored suits often cost way more than what I paid. It’s just that no one is used to seeing me look so good at work.

Friday is usually jeans day at work but just to be a little funny I wear my tailored suit every Friday and it’s become this silly office thing where everyone knows that’s my “formal” day.

I have no plans to buy more tailored suits but I feel so happy and good when I wear it because I saved for it and it’s mine and I know I look good in it.

Yesterday (Friday) when I came home my wife took me aside and told me I was very selfish to spend all that money on myself and that wearing tailored clothes was pretentious, like I’m punching above my weight.

I felt horrible she said that and asked her if there was something she wanted that cost $2,000 dollars that she would have rather I spent the money on.

She just said it was sneaky for me to buy something so expensive without telling her.

I dunno. She spends money at will from what I earn and I don’t ask her about it. If she wants something she buys it. If she wants to spend $50 on lunch with her friends, whatever.

The only thing I guess where she has a point is if she wants to buy something especially pricey, like if she wants a new wallet or shoes that cost more than a few hundred dollars she’ll ask me if it’s okay and I’ll always say yes, use your best judgement, bills are paid and it’s fine.

Maybe I should have told her before I bought it.

I realize now that I didn’t tell her because deep down I knew she’d shit all over my plans.

No.

I’m not trying to look good for any other woman, and yes, wife and I still bang regularly and well.

I just feel like crap.

Still not going to stop wearing my Friday suit though.

USA OFFERED COVID VACCINES TO NORTH KOREA, BUT “NO RESPONSE”

0

President of the United States Joe Biden said yesterday (21 May) that the US had offered Covid vaccines to North Korea following a growth of infections in the country, with about 2.5 million people being down with “fever”.

However, the US have gotten “no response” from Pyongyang.

Biden said that they have offered vaccines to North Korea and China, and that they are prepared to do so immediately, but have so far had no response from the latter two countries.

North Korea is in a state of “maximum emergency” as they reported their first cases of the Omicron variant, with their population of 25 million being largely unvaccinated.

South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol also expressed concern at North Korea’s Covid outbreak, and that they the ROK and US are willing to work with the international community to help the CPRK fight the virus.

North Korea has few intensive care units and their hospitals are reportedly poorly equipped, and they also have no drugs to treat the virus or the ability to perform mass testing.

EXTREMIST PREACHER MAY TRY TO VISIT S’PORE AGAIN AFTER BEING DENIED

Indonesian preacher Abdul Somad Batubara was previously denied entry into Singapore on 16 May, with the MHA saying that his extremist and segregationist teachings were unacceptable in Singapore’s society.

MHA confirmed in a statement that Somad arrived in Singapore with 6 other people at the Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal on 16 May.

Somad then shared a photo of himself inside a holding area, saying that it was “like a prison”.

He has returned to Batam on the same day, but has since expressed his interest in trying to come back to Singapore again.

He explained that it was because he has a few relatives in Singapore, and that he has roots here.

Speaking to Indonesian journalist Karni Ilyas in a YouTube interview on 18 May, Somad said that he wanted to come to Singapore for his wife and children to get to know their ancestors.

He also said that the people in Riau see Singapore as part of their land.

Somad added that he won’t give up trying to come to Singapore, that “to say that he is tired of going to Singapore is the same as saying he is tired of going to Minangkabau”.

Protests

Protestors in Indonesia staged a demonstration at the Singapore Embassy in Jakarta and the Singapore Consulate-General in Medan, Indonesia.

MFA response

In response to media queries on the demonstrations at the Singapore Embassy in Jakarta and the Singapore Consulate-General in Medan, the MFA Spokesperson said:

“Demonstrations took place in the vicinity of the Singapore Embassy in Jakarta and the Singapore Consulate-General in Medan on 20 May 2022. Indonesian law enforcement personnel were deployed to maintain safety and security.

The demonstrations were held in response to the refusal of entry into Singapore of Indonesian preacher Abdul Somad Batubara on 16 May 2022. The Ministry of Home Affairs of Singapore had issued a statement on 17 May 2022 setting out Singapore’s position on the matter. A visitor’s entry into Singapore is neither automatic nor a right. Each case is assessed on its own merits. The Singapore Government takes a serious view of any persons who advocate violence and/or espouse extremist and segregationist teachings.

The Singapore Government is closely monitoring the situation at our Overseas Missions in Indonesia.”

MAN BROKE UP WITH GF AFTER REALISING SHE HAS A PAST OF FWBs & ONS

0

I met an amazing girl and we hit off very well from the start. I was a V before I met her.

On the third date, we kissed and before we proceeded further, she innocently told me about her past 4 experiences (2 relationships, 1 fwb and 1 ons). The fwb and ons were just before she met me and she regretted those. It sullied the intimate kiss moment for me but I was willing to brush it aside.

On the subsequent meetings, without me asking, she showed me the pictures and races of the 4 relationships and it honestly messed with my head. I did not need to know the details and her just spilling everything hurt me so much that I cried when I went home. I tried to convince myself that her past is her past and I should just focus on the future but it did not work.

When we had S a few times, I did not enjoy fully because in my mind I was thinking that she must have learnt this from her fwb or her ons.

I went to see a therapist about it and the therapist told me that it was up to me to decide.

While many may say her past is her past, she is who she is because of her past, etc. You are not wrong but I was disturbed by the following things:

1- she told me too much info of her past without me asking and that was not appropriate. Especially on our special intimate day when we kissed.

2- I am a simple man who believes that everyone has a past and I don’t want to know everything about your relationship’s past

3- she did the fwb and ons immediately after her second relationship when she was feeling down and stressed from work. To make matters worse, she regretted it (the fwb guy started developing feelings and she was uncomfortable while she slept with the ons guy because she loved his tatoos). This hurt me even more for some reason.

4- I see S as a way to emotionally connect with people in a relationship. While S does not necessarily mean the same thing for her.

Even though we connected very well with each other. I felt that it was right to break up since our values are different and it would be fair to both of us.

But the one key takeaway is that you don’t have to force yourself to accept a person’s past. Its alright if you are not okay with it.

I broke up with her, yes I might be mental.

SON REFUSES TO GO TO SCHOOL, SAYS IT “TEACHES YOU TO WORK FOR OTHERS”

0

I love my son to death but he’s a freaking bum that refuses to do anything with his life
He’s a good kid but he’s 25 and has zero motive in life.

He spends any money he gets on games and sits at home on the computer all day

Every time I try to get him a job somewhere he always says he doesn’t want to “make someone else rich”

I try to get him to enroll in school and it’s “school teaches you to work for someone else”

When I ask what he wants to do, he says something business, like entrepreneurship and investments. Yet he doesn’t seem to understand that you need money to invest nor have any other business ideas.

He said his dream is to make money without doing anything because all the YouTubers he watches make it look extremely easy apparently

I’ve even tried so many times to get him to do something like sign on with the army but his answer is always “I’ll die before I sign on”.

I’m not sure why he thinks like this. I feel like the 100s of social media influencers he follows has something to do with it.

I’m not sure what else to do. Can anyone else relate?
