GUY GOT REMINDED OF THE CRINGEY THINGS HE USED TO DO, CANNOT FUNCTION

0

I was having a casual conversation with one of my female friends recently during which she said a single word that triggered a rush of embarrassing memories into my mind’s eye. I had to take a break in the middle of a sentence, press my fingers against my temples and allow them to pass through before I could engage in conversation again. She asked me what I was doing, and I didn’t know how to explain myself. All I said in response was “bad thoughts”.

This has been happening more and more lately, and it’s those same memories that rush to the forefront of my mind when I close my eyes to sleep at night. I’m being constantly beaten down by the flood of recollections of my past: mishandled social interactions, awful decisions and the thought of who I once was. It makes me want to slam my head against a wall until I black out. I need a place to express myself, so forgive me for using this place like a confessional booth at a church. I’m now going to narrate an instance that’s burdened my soul for a long time, in the hopes that it will alleviate my mind in some way:

There was an inter-class competition in my school organized by the student council. It was related to the business stream, and there would be 10 rounds for each of the different areas of commerce like Management, Entrepreneurship, Finance, Marketing etc. This competition that I signed up for, because I thought it would look good in my resume, was a breeding ground for some of the most embarrassing memories of my life.

Let me state right off the bat that I was in over my head. I never planned on winning. My goal was simply to participate regardless of my general incompetence and immaturity. Before the rounds for the ‘management’ part of the competition began, we were asked to take a general aptitude test, the point of which I thought was to straight away eliminate unfit candidates. It was a mixture of verbal, math, personality and logic questions. After a certain point in the process of writing the test, I realized that my chances of getting to participate are slim to none. So I started to do one of my favorite things to do: self-sabotage.

I don’t know why my juvenile brain works this way, but when I know that something isn’t going well, I like to self- sabotage and make things worse for myself. It’s basically my way of extracting a little bit of fun out of a hopeless situation. After I answered all the questions that I thought I knew the answer to, I filled the rest of the paper with joke responses and wacky doodles. I submitted my answer sheet, and that was that. I just thought I’d never have to think about it again.

After a while, I got to know that I was selected for the first round of ‘management’ which was supposed to be a personal interview. I couldn’t believe it, but I assumed my non-joke-responses is what got my foot in the door. I also assumed that the interview would be something simple, like one where they ask me basic questions about my background, academics or accomplishments. That was generally my experience with student council interviews up until that point.

On the day of my interview, when I walked in and sat in front of the six interviewers (who were just my seniors in the last year of their undergraduate degree), much to my horror, they took out the answer sheet of the test I wrote. I immediately realized at that moment that the whole point of the interview would be to follow-up on the answers that I gave on the test that I thought would never come back to bite me. Go figure.

Now I don’t even know how to begin describing the intense stupidity of the next couple of minutes. Bear with me, because we’re entering optimum levels of cringe.

One of the first questions they asked me was about my response to a questions that asked “What movie title best describes who you’ll become in the future?” My answer that I wrote for this was “The 40-Year-Old Virgin”, which wasn’t even funny. It’s the most obvious joke that anyone could’ve made. I probably stopped thinking at that point during the exam and was writing whatever that popped in my head. The interviewers then asked me why I wrote that as my response.

The obvious thing to do would have been just to claim that it was a joke. But that’s not what I did. I started to explain how I’m someone who’s unsuccessful with women. I’d like to remind you that this is happening in front of a group students who are only two years older than me.

I was speaking at length, in a professional interview, about how I’ve never been good at interacting with members of the opposite gender.

But it gets worse…

They then proceeded to one of the next questions that asked something like – “which would reach the ground faster when dropped, an egg or a feather?” I don’t remember what I wrote as the answer, but I remember it was correct because I’ve heard that question before. Unfortunately, I also drew an unsolicited illustration of an egg and a feather dropping to amuse myself. When they pointed it out to me, I told them that I just did that to make whoever was reading the paper laugh. They proceeded to explain to me how unfunny I was.

They then asked me if I had any extra-curricular achievements. I mentioned that I had a green belt in Karate (which isn’t impressive at all, but I assumed they wouldn’t know that). They then asked me why I didn’t master the sport. I did a very poor job of explaining how Karate is more comparable to a choreographed dance than anything that would be practical in a self-defense situation. In the middle of this explanation, I got up from my seat and did a Kata pose and told them “I can’t do this in the middle of a fight, can I?” It’s only after I struck the pose that I realize that these people didn’t know what I was showing them. They didn’t know what a Kata was. All they saw was me inexplicably getting up from my seat in the middle of a conversation and striking a pose for no good reason. The female interviewer right in front of me had this bewildered expression on her face that screamed “why did you just do that?”.

To be clear, I was so nervous that I wasn’t even talking straight. It wasn’t so much “talking” as I was “incoherently mumbling to myself”. Don’t believe for a moment that I was speaking in full sentences at any point in this interview.

You know what the best part was? The crème de la crème? At some point in this interview, I thought that I should become more assertive and confident. Maybe I should channel someone I know. So I started scanning my brain for people who I thought were confident, which lead me to thinking about public speakers. Their whole job is to speak confidently in front of a large crowd. But I didn’t know any public speakers, so what’s the closest equivalent that I do know? Stand-up comedians. Who’s a stand-up comedian that I like? Bill Burr.

Yup. Bill Burr. Out of all people.

At some random point in the interview, I started to emulate Bill Burr’s mannerisms, style of speaking and body language.

It took me way too long to snap out of it and act like myself again. After the interview concluded and I exited the room, I could very clearly hear laughing and one of them saying “What was that!?” I decided to just go home straight away and cry into a pillow.

This post ended up being way longer than it had to be. I have more memories to recount, but I’ll save them for another day and another post. For now, I’ll end it here, and I pray that God absolves me of my cringe.

YPS AT CONCERT USE “MOSH PIT” AS AN EXCUSE TO HANTAM EACH OTHER

A video emerged online showing a large group of youth inside what appears to be a “mosh pit”, albeit with a little twist of their own.

A mosh pit is an area in front of a stage where the audiences “mosh” together, pushing and slamming each other to the music.

However, in this variation of the “mosh pit”, a few acts of violence could be seen – one guy was seen in the middle of mayhem getting kicked by another guy in black.

MAN’S WIFE MESSED UP & ACCIDENTALLY CALLED THEIR FRIEND “BABE”

0

My wife just slipped and called our friend babe.

She’s been driving around with him to everyday things and inviting him places ostensibly as a friend, but she communicates with him almost exclusively on messenger.

He never reaches out to me, if I want to chill I call him. They talk a lot though.

So yeah. They’re definitely sleeping together. I’m leaving her. Just wanted to type that so I could see the words. It’s easier if you can see the words.

I’m not bitter. I’m glad. The marriage isn’t ever going to work and I’ve known it for a while now.

Netizens’ comments

  • I accidentally called my sister babe once. And it only happened because I was hanging out with my girlfriend a lot and just got used to saying babe. It was funny. I think you should have other worries and proof of cheating because in my opinion this isn’t it.
  • By the comments it’s sounds more like you were just waiting for an excuse to end things and even if she isn’t cheating I hope you know it’s okay to end things if you want different things etc.
  • I’ve made an honest mistake like this before. Sometimes my brain is cruel to me. I think I’d investigate a bit more before jumping to conclusions but maybe you already have.
  • i read you’re deciding to just up and leave without ever talking about what happened. what if she genuinely just slipped up her words? is there any other reason you’re so completely sure? i once called my bf by my exes’ name… and that’s definitely not a guy i ever want to see again. slip ups happen

TADA DRIVER ALLEGEDLY KICKED CUSTOMER OUT OF CAR & POCKETED FARE

A netizen shared how he booked a TADA ride from his home to KK Hospital and the driver allegedly kicked them out midway through, saying that he will cancel their ride.

The couple then alighted from the ride and after 10 minutes, the driver allegedly finished the trip and pockeded the money, without cancelling.

Here is what the netizen said

I booked a TADA cab from my house to KKH to accompany my pregnant wife wife (morning 9 am). TADA was 8.5$ as compared to Gojek at 9 and Grab at 12. It said 2 minutes but in between I see driver not moving, I messaged him and finally after a wait of 10 minutes he reached.

As we left I suggested we go via Thomson so we don’t have to pay the hefty CTE for a 10 minute ride. He said, “Thomson is too crowded now”.

I told him I just came from Thomson and it’s pretty easy. He got offended and said, “U cancel the ride. Get down from my car”.

I told him I can’t cancel and he said, “U get down, I will cancel you ride”.

My wife was getting anxious so I got down from the ride, 2 minutes after getting in and now we are on a road scouting for another ride.

Meanwhile there was no cancellation and after 10 minutes he conveniently finished the ride and pocketed the money. I created a support ticket on TADA and also emailed them. No response.

Am wondering what my options are as this is the first time such an incident has happened in the last decade of living here.

Can I go to any authorities to investigate and complain? Are there any rules the private hire drivers have to follow that were broken? Can I complaint against TADA somewhere because they have taken my money and given no response?

Any feedback from other private hire drivers would be helpful. I don’t want to let this go because the truth is he just kicked a pregnant women out of his cab. And having such a guy on the road doing this to others would be a shame.

Edit- One of the senior TADA people I reached out on LinkedIn replied and promised to investigate and take action. From my end I saw that I got an alert on TADA app that the ride has been cancelled and it has disappeared completely from my history.

FT GETS JOB WHILE ON TOURIST VISA BUT STUCK IN SG AFTER EP REJECTED

A foreign talent posted a message on the expat.com forum and seek for help and advice.

The foreign talent stated that he came to Singapore on 8 March. He extended his social pass twice which could let him stay in Singapore for a total of two months, but his social visit pass will soon expire.

The foreign talent managed to get a job in two months. The company that accepted him then applied for an Employment Pass for him.

The company applied to the Manpower Ministry for an EP for the expat. Four days later, his EP was rejected but the company continued to support his application through an appeal. The appeal is currently pending.

The foreign talent has to legally leave Singapore soon and he is currently worried that his appeal will not arrive on time. Currently, his native country has closed all airports, which means he can’t even return even if he wanted to.

In any case, a fellow expat on the forum advised him to seek help from the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA), “In the current crisis, if you really cannot leave Singapore to another country, you should approach ICA and explain the situation. I am sure they will help you!”

ACTIVE GF SAYS NEED BF TO “GIVE HER” OR SHE WONT FEEL LOVE

0

In a relationship, I need S to feel loved and wanted by my partner. I don’t know why, it’s just how it is. Outside of a relationship, it doesn’t matter. I might want a hook up once in a while, but I don’t need it as I do in a relationship.

Our S life has been lacking from the start. He doesn’t see S as important, because we have all the non-S affection. Cuddling and kissing aren’t enough for me. Telling me he loves me isn’t enough for me. But he doesn’t get it, and I’m tired of trying to explain my needs as if me not having a good enough reason to want S means the need isn’t real.

So why is S important to you?

Here are what netizens think;

  • Him not seeing S as necessary is just as valid as you see it as important. You can’t force him into having more sex with you for validation, which is essentially what you want. No amount of “explaining your needs” is going to change that he doesn’t want to do it as much as you. You’re probably incompatible. And that’s that.
  • Incompatibility ends a lot of relationships. You will both be happier with someone with similar drives. That’s my advice.
  • Break up and move on. You’re incompatible.

GIRL SAYS SHE GETS TURNED ON WHEN PEOPLE PRAISE HER, CALL HER “GOOD GIRL”

0

Praise turns me on more than anything else in the world

F20. Hearing a guy/girl tell me they’re proud of me, congratulate me, praise me in any way is literally like heaven to me.

It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside and it’s such an incredible turn on. The other day I went to all my classes (rare) and had a male friend say “good job baby” jokingly and just about lost it.

I love being told that I’m a good girl. There is nothing even comparable to the feeling I get when someone praises me. It’s like instant wetness.

Netizens’ comments

  • just like a Golden retriever
  • What an excellent post, terrific work, well done!
  • I am glad to hear you found what makes you happy and you decided to embrace it rather than wallow in doubts as a lot of people do when they find out they are a kink. You are being emotionally mature and pretty clever to post this here.
  • I dunno about a turn on but when ever someone tells me I did a good job or nice work, it’s a unique kind of high.
