The SCDF said in a Facebook post that a fire broke out in the wee hours this morning (7 October) at a plumbing services workshop located at Geylang Bahru.
A total of 17 emergency vehicles and roughly 60 firefighters were deployed to the scene.
One of the firefighters was conveyed to the hospital for a “slight smoke inhalation”.
Water jets were deployed around the exterior of the premises to contain the inferno and prevent the fire from spreading.
The SCDF also simultaneously conducted forced entry into the 2-storey industrial building.
SCDF added: :Once the fire was under control, firefighters wearing breathing apparatus sets proceeded deep into the smoke-logged unit to locate the seat of fire.”
“Firefighters had to exercise extreme caution as the second-floor mezzanine level had already collapsed.”
The fire was put out by the SCDF in 2 hours, but the units adjacent to the affected area suffered damage from the smoke and heat.
The SCDF said that 4 water jets as well as an unmanned firefighting machine were deployed, along with a combined platform ladder to monitor the incident through aerial view.
The stricken fireman who was hospitalised, was a full time NSF, and at the time of writing, he was discharged from SGH.
Apart from that, no other casualties or injuries were reported.
