The first known human case of the H3N8 strain of avian flu was confirmed by the health authorities of China, but they said that there is a low risk of widespread transmission among the population.
The H3N8 virus has been circulating since it first emerged in 2002 in North American waterfowl and has been known to infect horses, dogs and other animals.
However, prior to recent times, it has not been previously detected in humans.
The National Health Commission of China said on Tuesday that a 4-year-old boy who lives in the central Henan province had tested positive for the strain, following his hospitalization earlier this month for fever and other symptoms.
The boy lived in an area that is populated with wild ducks and his family raises chickens for a living.
Tests of the boy’s close human contacts have so far found no abnormalities, with the NHC saying that his case was a one-off cross-species transmission, with the risk of large-scale transmission being low.
They also warned the public to stay away from birds that are sick or dead, and if they have a fever or respiratory symptoms they should seek immediate treatment.
The cases of transmission between humans are described as being extremely rare, with avian influenza occurring mainly in wild birds and poultry.

Since young, I have always felt that life is unfair to me. I’m from a low income family; I’m the oldest and have a younger brother (still studying). We could never afford anything expensive like holidays, aircon or even restaurant meals. I took up part time jobs since secondary, studied hard each year to get edusave bursaries. The sad thing is, I’m not that smart (considered pretty ok in my sec sch and lower-rank JC). I did well enough to enter NUS’ not so popular course, but not smart enough to excel nor qualify for scholarship. Applied financial aid every year, took loans to cover tuition fees, could never even think of going SEP (can’t afford forget it). I worked every vacation with the aim to pay off loans sooner after graduation.. I’m now working in a job that I hate, earning less than a decent salary. Just as I was preparing to job hop, covid strikes and derailed my plans. You get the picture.
And then there’s my dad. His monthly income was pretty low and he is addicted to gambling (toto, 4D, football betting etc.) Despite our advise to ask him to save up to retire early or to go on a short holiday as a family, he never listened. He did not disclose how much he spends on gambling but it must be a lot because he doesn’t have any savings. I accidentally saw his bank account balance the other day and he only had $2k. As someone who had to work so hard to put myself through university…I’m really angry with my dad, with his actions, with his unwise decisions. Because of this, I never gave him any allowance as he will only gamble them away. Just when I thought that the circuit breaker isn’t so bad as it forces my dad to stop gambling during this period… the bad news came, he was asked to retire. Yea, there’s a government grant that we can apply…but surely it isn’t enough.
He did not ask me for money (yet), but I can see that he will not be able to sustain without an income. The savings I had I earned through sweat and tears over all these years… I’m really unsure if I should start giving him a monthly allowance, albeit unwillingly. This seems like a stupid question because it‘s not like I have a choice and have to do it anyway. In times like these…it always makes me want to run away. Sometimes the burden is just too heavy to bear. I guess I’m just hoping for some advice to make me feel better about all of this..
The Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) said in a statement yesterday that 3 men were arrested for suspected drug activities by their officers, with about 2.3kg of heroin being seized.

Officers from Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) arrested three Singaporean men, aged between 20 and 22, for suspected drug activities on 26 April 2022. A total of about 2,312g of heroin, with a total estimated street value of $162,000, were seized during the operation. The seizure of 2,312g of heroin can feed the addiction of about 1,100 abusers for a week.
2. In the afternoon of 26 April, CNB officers arrested a 21-year-old man in the vicinity of Eunos Crescent. In follow-up operations, CNB also arrested two other men, aged 20 and 22, who were believed to be associates of the 21-year-old. CNB officers then escorted the 21-year-old man to a locked riser in the vicinity of Eunos Crescent and using a key found on him, officers unlocked the riser and recovered about 2,312g of heroin.

Under Section 5 of the Misuse of Drugs Act, it is an offence for a person, on his or her own behalf, or on behalf of any other person, whether or not that other person is in Singapore, to traffic in a controlled drug, offer to traffic in a controlled drug; or to do or offer to do any act preparatory to or for the purpose of trafficking in a controlled drug. If a person is found guilty of trafficking more than 15g of pure heroin (diamorphine), he or she may face the mandatory death penalty.

So I was in a relationship with this person. It was sort of a low-key relationship (as in not posting on social media sort).
This is because we both are not very active there. But everybody knew we were together. And of course, my best friend knew about it too, every little detail. Also, my best friend and my ex were friends as well.
So I broke up with this guy after mutual understanding but on a bitter note. At that time, my best friend was behaving very distant from me. So a couple of weeks after my breakup, I met her. There was a lot of tension between us, I could feel it. She has never been distant before.
So I straight up asked her if everything was okay between us. She told me that after I broke up with my ex, they both have been sending flirty texts to each other.
They decided to meet in person for a casual hookup. She told me that she was all up for it but at the time of doing it, my ex said no. He backed out. Hence, they didn’t do it. (This was a week after I broke up with him) I mean that really hurt me.
Idk if I can trust my bestfriend. She knew I still had feelings for him and she still went for a hookup. I mean if it was worth it, I would understand. After hearing this I don’t even wanna talk to her. The worst part is, I don’t think she feels guilty about it.
I accidentally saw my teenage son’s manhood and it made me feel insecure about myself.
So for context I’m his dad and I’m 36 and he’s 18. My wife asked me to wrangle him and the other kids so I made the rounds.

He’s an amazing little kid, and our family has grown to love him too. So we were all shocked a month ago when my sister said her and him were going to separate – she said she loves her husband, but she can’t take being a stepmother anymore, and that everything from not being able to watch adult shows at all hours of the day to asking him to do his homework makes her miserable.
Her husband is absolutely devastated, as they have always had a happy marriage and still love each other – she’ll be the first one to say this. He didn’t want children either, but understands he’s the only parent this boy has now. My family seems to agree with me on this, but my mom is very upset that my sister is furious with me and the family members that agree with me.
A 39-year-old foreign worker was killed in a freak accident after being run over by a parked prime mover on a ramp.
The incident happened at Yishun Industrial Street 1 on 27 April at around 8am.
The deceased is a 39-year-old foreign worker from India, Shanmugam Jothi, who had parked the vehicle on a ramp along a driveway before alighting.
The prime mover then started to roll forward, and Jothi then ran towards the front of the vehicle and was run over by it, according to a spokesperson for the Ministry of Manpower.
The police were alerted to the fatal freak accident at about 8am and Jothi was found motionless, and subsequently pronounced dead at the scene by an SCDF paramedic.
At the time of writing, investigations into the fatal accident are ongoing.
MOM further added that heavy vehicles should be parked on a firm and level ground, with the parking brakes fully engaged and the wheel chokes positioned properly.
A manager of Jothi’s employment company, City Container (S), said that Jothi was picking up cargo at the time of the accident, according to Shin Min Daily News.
The manager added that the company will be in touch with the worker’s family in India and providing assistance to them.
My GF took a long weekend trip with a group of friends this last weekend. They left Wednesday and came back yesterday. Before she left I had agreed to pick her up at the airport when they came back. It’s about a 40-minute drive from our place and I didn’t have anything planned yesterday so it wasn’t a big deal. I texted her yesterday morning to confirm their arrival time so that I could plan when I should leave and she told me they were supposed to land at 3pm.
I didn’t hear from her the rest of the day, so I left our place at 2:30pm and arrived at the airport at 3:15 and texted her to let her know I was there. When I didn’t hear back from her by 4pm, I kind of started to worry. So I checked their flight status online and found out their flight had been delayed by 2 hours during a layover and wasn’t expected to land for another 90 minutes. So, I went home. I had no way to contact her so I couldn’t tell her.
About 2 hours later I finally got a call from her and she was asking me where I was. I told her I was at home. She got pissed at me and asked why I wasn’t there. I told her I was there at the time she told me, but she neglected to inform me of the flight delay and I wasn’t just going to wait at the airport for 4 hours. I told her to take an Grab.
I could tell she was pissed and she told me she was tired and exhausted (AKA Hungover) and forgot to text me about the flight delay. She said she doesn’t want to sit in a strangers car for an hour and just wants to get back home. I told her I had already driven to the airport once today and I wasn’t going back. And even if I did, it would take me an hour to get there but she hung up on me.
About an hour or so later she got home, threw her bags on the floor, walked to our room, closed the door and locked it. I tried to go talk to her but she wouldn’t open the door. I ended up sleeping on the couch.
This morning I finally got her to talk to me and she told me her phone died and that was why she couldn’t tell me about the delay and that she was tired and cranky and frustrated when they landed, but that I should have still picked her up because I told her I would. She told me that the Grab was crazy expensive because they charged her peak rates and after spending a lot on her vacation, she’s pretty much broke. She told me I should have just found something to do nearby until she landed instead of going home, especially since I had nothing going on.
When I finally got a word in, I told her that I find it hard to believe she couldn’t find a place to charge her phone during a 2-hour flight delay or have one of her friends text me and that it’s simple courtesy to keep people updated on timelines like that when they are doing you a favor. I told her I think she was just too hungover or still drunk and didn’t even think about it.
She called me an Ahole and told me to F off. She again isn’t speaking to me.
i feel like the nastiest person in the world. i had no idea he had a girlfriend. i met him at work and we seemed to really hit it off.
we were texting for a while and i even did my research before hanging out with him. there were no signs of a girlfriend so today i went over to his house.
we talked, which led to making out, and next thing you know we’re about to get intimate. but before any of that happened i hear a door open and get shoved off.
by this point most of my clothes are off but i got scared and put my clothes on as fast as i could. i hear a girls voice. i realized what was going on and i grabbed my keys and phone.

i was frozen and i scared. she screams at me to get out(rightfully) and i hear her calling his mom or dad idk.
i’m not sure what to think or what to do. i had no idea there was a girlfriend in the picture. i feel disgusting.
the worst part of all this is that i have to work with that guy tomorrow. i don’t want to see that pigs face. i feel bad for that girl.
i wanted to say that i was sorry but i didn’t wanna escalate things and piss her off even more. i feel terrible.
Veteran Hong Kong actor, Kenneth Tsang, was found dead inside his quarantine hotel room at Tsim Sha Tsui, he was 87-years-old.
As reported by Hong Kong media HK01, Tsang had traveled from Singapore to Hong Kong on 25 April, checking in at a quarantine hotel at Tsim Sha Tsui.
He then did an ART test the next day, with the test results indicating negative.
A health ministry worker went to check in on him in the morning but Tsang didn’t respond or answer the door.
The employee then opened the door of his hotel room at about 12.14pm and he was found unconscious, before paramedics declared him dead at the scene.
The authorities are investigating the cause of his death.
Tsang has had a long-spanning career and is quire a familiar face to Singaporean viewers over the years, because besides his roles in TVB dramas, he also performed in some local TV dramas here as well.
He most notably appeared in The Unbeatables 2, starring Li Nanxing and Zoey Tay.
