RAFFLES GIRLS SCHOOL HOLD NRIC PRESENTATION CEREMONY FOR THEIR STUDENTS

Raffles Girls School shared on their Facebook page recently that it held an NRIC presentation ceremony to their year 4 students.

During the ceremony, the school also organised activities for their students to participate in which was aimed at educating the students on the significance of having a NRIC and also how they can contribute in their own ways to Singapore as a citizen.

A specially designed cardholder, designed by their very own alumna, Chen Guo and her ex-classmates was used to hold the students’ NRIC and presented to them together.

Congratulates students for reaching this milestone

Raffles Girls School ended the post by congratulating their students for reaching this milestone in their life.

It said that the ceremony is an ’empowering citizenship experience signalling to the students their coming of age and their roles and responsibilities as Singaporean youths’.

Receiving the NRICs also affirms their identities as Singaporeans/Permanent Residents and their pride and honour.

1,615 NEW CASES ON 19 JAN 2022, 1185 OMICRON CASES, ONE DEATH

The Ministry of Health (MOH) has reported a total of 1,615 new cases on 19 January 2022 with one fatality.

Case details

Of the 1615 new cases, 1205 are local with MOH not reporting the number of cases in the foreign worker dormitories.

The remaining 410 are imported cases.

1,185 are reported to be Omicron cases, with 220 being imported and 965 being local.

Weekly infection growth rate

The weekly infection growth rate is now at 1.96, 0.2 more than what was reported on Tuesday when it was at 1.76.

This rate refers to the ratio of community cases of the past week as compared to the week before.

A rate above 1 indicates that weekly cases are on the rise.

Total toll

One fatality reported today brings the death toll in Singapore at 844 and the total number of cases since the start of the pandemic is now at 296,077.

NO MORE KFC SHROOMS BURGER ON SPORE MENU, NETIZENS PETITIONING

Netizens are in shock about the decision made by fast food chain, KFC to remove their shrooms burger from their menu in Singapore.

Many had grew up eating this burger, which was priced at $2 during the time when it was still on the menu.

Therefore, a petition has been set up to call for KFC to bring the tasty yet cost saving burger back to the menus.

Petition set up by Netizen

A netizen has set up a petition on change.org to call for KFC to bring the burger back to its menus.

Apparently, the netizen claims that the replacement burger, KFC Original Colonial burger, is significantly different from the previous Shrooms burger.

200 signatures is the target set by the netizen and at the time of writing, there were already 170 like minded individuals who have signed the petition.

The petition reads:

“Since June 2021, the KFC Shrooms fillet burger was discontinued in Singapore. In replacement was the KFC Original Colonial burger, which uses the same breaded chicken patty but with a different gravy sauce. The dijon mustard taste is evident in the KFC Original Colonial burger’s sauce, making it significantly different from the KFC Shrooms fillet burger.

Why am I starting this petition: The KFC Shrooms fillet burger has been a staple since most of our childhood, it is affordable and straightforwardly simple, effortlessly becoming one of KFC’s signature dishes. Paired together with KFC’s cheese fries, Mmmm you will never go wrong. The simple breaded chicken (no excessive batter), is topped with KFC’s signature brown gravy sauce and incorporated with slices of brown button mushrooms. Not to mention that the brown gravy sauce bears a high resemblance to the KFC whipped potato gravy sauce. I am unable to confirm on their exact identities as I am not an employee at KFC, but they are definitely somewhat similar and this is another pointer for all whipped potato lovers to support this petition!

Local Youtube channel Night Owl Cinematics or rather known as NOC has recently came up with a website that is revamped from their previous.

This comes after the previous saga in the company which resulted in a huge fall out involving the talents, Sylvia and Ryan.

Brands

Three brands remain under NOC’s branding and they are:

  1. NOC
  2. Food King
  3. Sugarmelon

Included demographics

On the home page of the newly revamped website, they have also included the demographics of their viewers.

The demographics includes:

  1. 5 million social reach.
  2. 510 million views on Youtube.
  3. 65% of viewers are in the group age of 18-34.
  4. 57% of their viewers are men and 43% women.
  5. Over 200 clients.

Clientele profile

They also included logos of some of their more prominent clients, and notable names include:Syl

  1. MediaCorp
  2. MacDonald
  3. Grab Food

Values

In the ‘About Us’ page, they have included values which the company embodies, which is:

“Open to communication”
“Be kind and direct when giving feedback; be open and have good faith when receiving it.”

This probably came after miscommunication was the cause of the whole saga which they were involved in months ago.

Team NOC

It was also noted that Ryan and Aiken are no longer part of the team, together with many of the previous talents the company manages.

Aiken previously mentioned on his instagram page that he will be leaving the company and will not be returning to ‘Food King’, which he was heavily involved in for 209 episodes.

Sylvia still remains as CEO and Co-founder, Bryan Seah still remains as graphic designer and Sylvia’s brother, Sikeen, remains as NOC’s props manager.

NOC has gained much success in the past before its saga, with an average of about a 100,000 views per video posted.

A man was sentenced to jail after he was caught cheating multiple people on Carousell.

23-year-old Mohammad Zulhimi Arif posted on Carousell that he was selling facemask online in Feb 2020. During that time face mask was not commonly sold as compared to today and there was a demand for them.

The victims paid Zulhimi a deposit for buying the face mask ranging from 20 – 30%, Today Online reported that the victims have ordered between 120 to 300 boxes of face masks and the amount of the orders are valued from a range of $1,800 per victim to $3,750.

However, after receiving the deposits, Zulhimi failed to deliver and he had no intention to fulfil the orders.

The victims report the incident to the Police

He withdrew $1,700 from an ATM at HarbourFront MRT and left for Batam with his then-pregnant girlfriend on the very same day he received the money from the victims.

On his return, he was arrested by the Police and said that he has spent most of the money.

He has yet to pay back the victims.

Zulhimi pleaded guilty to his crimes and was sentenced to 14 weeks in jail.

He could have been sentenced up to 10 years jail and fine for cheating.

Taking the Mass Rapid Transit(MRT) in the morning or even are normally more crowded due to people who are going to work or going home.

Most of us follow social etiquette and queue up to enter or exit the MRT. However, there are always those who refuse to queue and try to rush in or out of the MRT.

For many years netizens have been referring to this group of people as “MRT aunties”.

A netizen who was preparing for the morning’s rush hour said that he encountered “aunties” putting their bags at entrances to “chop” to guarantee that they will be able to enter the train instead of queueing.

The photo depicted not one not two but three tote bags.

Here is what the netizen said:

The man uploaded a photo on Facebook and said:

“Aunties never Q but instead place their bags to chop for a place to enter MRT for the 5.20 am train. Can meh? Mrt staffs never bother about this???“

The netizens expect staff to take action but the MRT station is a busy place, it is not possible for staff to monitor every single area of the platform. But we are sure the MRT staff are doing whatever they can.

The blame should be on those who behave irresponsibly in public and not on the working staff.

SUPREME COURT WARNS PUBLIC ABOUT PHISHING EMAILS WITH FAKE COURT LETTERS

The Supreme Court issued a warning on 19 January against a series of phishing emails claiming to be from the courts, asking people for their personal information.

The phishing emails would inform the victims that they have been served a court letter with the document being shared via Dropbox Business.

The phishing emails were sent from [email protected] from the “Supreme Judiciary Council” and it contains a false document in the form of a PDF file named “GOV.SG-LETTER011822.PDF”.

The emails would ask the victims for their names and NRIC numbers.

The Supreme Court said that those who receive such email should not respond nor provide any personal or banking details.

They also advised the public not to click on any attachments or links in the email.

It is important to note that the courts in Singapore do not use @judiciary.gov.sg to send emails to the public, not do they request for information to be sent via Dropbox.

Also, legal documents can only be served by authorised process servers.

Should the public be required in court or to provide personal information (for real), they will be sent a registrar’s notice or correspondence from the court.

Persons who wish to report phishing emails can call the police hotline at 1800-255-0000 or make an online submission here.

GIRL RODE PMD ON FOOTPATH TO EVADE ENFORCEMENT OFFICER, STRUCK BOY AT BUS STOP

Jin Ng Teng, 19-years-old, pleaded guilty to 3 charges under the Active Mobility Act earlier today (19 January), as well as one count of causing hurt to a child while riding her PMD negligently.

She was riding an unregistered PMD on a footpath and was trying to evade an enforcement officer who had spotted her by speeding away, before hitting a boy at a bus stop.

The girl then continued riding the PMD on the way to her boyfriend’s home before getting arrested later that same day (30 October 2020).

The boy who was struck cannot be identified due to a gag order on his identity.

What happened?

The incident happened on a footpath along Hougang Street 91 on 30 October 2020, and LTA enforcement officers were on the lookout for errant PMD users at around 7am when they spotted Jin riding her PMD on the footpath.

The two officers then followed her in a van, with one of the officers alighting and walking towards her and showing her his LTA pass and instructing her to alight from her PMD.

Jin then sped away instead.

The boy was with his mother waiting at a bus stop at Hougang Street 93 when Jin was riding towards them at around 7.10am.

She didn’t keep a proper lookout and hit the victim’s right arm and hand, and the boy then bent forward and started crying.

He was unable to bend the fingers on his right hand because of the injury caused by the collision.

The boy was then conveyed in an ambulance to KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital after the police were alerted and he was found with a bruised right shoulder as well and given one day’s MC.

At the same time, Jin was continuing riding her PMD to her boyfriend’s home, and she was subsequently arrested.

She was later revealed to have been riding a PMD that was unregistered.

Jin is expected to be sentenced sometime in March and she is facing a jail term of up to 6 months and a fine of up to $2,500 for causing hurt to another person by performing a negligent act.

In the latest(Jan 19) bidding of Certificate of Entitlement (COE) the prices across all classes of vehicles has increased.

The latest COE bidding prices

  • For cars up to 1,600cc – $57,898
  • Cars above 1600cc – $82,001
  • Commercial Vehicles – $43,001
  • Motorcycle – $10,000
  • Open – $83,911

For CAT A, the prices increased by 0.5%, CAT B increased by 5.5%, CAT C 1.9%, Motorcycle increased 3.2% and Open category increased by 1.7%.

Car salesman spoke to Singapore Uncensored:

We asked a car salesman what is the reason for the increase and this was his response:

“Yes, the prices have been steadily increasing and of course, this is due to demand. At least 40% of our customers stated that they want to buy a vehicle to avoid taking public transport due to the ongoing situation in Singapore.”

WOMAN CALLED CGH DOCTOR “CRAZY” AND TRIED TO BITE AUXILIARY POLICE OFFICER

A 54-year-old woman, Wang Xuyi, was sentenced to one-week imprisonment and a fine of $5,000 on 18 January for insulting a doctor at Changi General Hospital, as well as hitting and attempting to bite an auxiliary police officer.

Wang was found guilty of two charges of using insulting words towards a CGH doctor, with another two charges of causing hurt and trying to cause hurt to an auxiliary police officer also being contested.

She was convicted in November 2021 for her offences after a trial, where she had claimed that she didn’t know that her words were insulting and that she was not aware of what the word “crazy” meant in Chinese.

Wang indicated that she intended to file an appeal against her sentence on Tuesday and her jail sentence has been deferred to 3 February.

What happened?

The incidents happened on 16 May 2020 during the Circuit Breaker.

Wang was causing a ruckus at Changi General Hospital after refusing to be tested further and asked for antibiotics.

She then barged into a consultation room, where her female doctor was attending to another patient at the time.

She then said a number of things to the doctor, including calling her “stupid” before leaving the consultation room.

Wang then continued her antics at the hospital admissions counter, making a scene and said some more things to the same doctor, including telling her “ni shen jing bing” in Chinese (“you are crazy”).

Three auxiliary officers then arrived and attempted to escort Wang out of the hospital, to which Wang then took out her phone and wanted to film them.

The officers then warned her several times not to do so as recording was prohibited in the area, and she continued to raise her hands to record them as they raised their hands over her phone to cover the camera.

A struggle soon ensued and Wawng then hit one of the auxiliary officers, Nurul Neeza Mohd Jumain, on her left shoulder with force at least thrice.

The officers then allowed Wang to sit down on a bench, and she then pulled down her face mask and pounced onto Neesa’s arm in an attempt to bite her.

Neeza managed to avoid being bitten by the woman by releasing her grip on her straightaway.

The entire incident was caught on CGH’s CCTV at the Accident and Emergency Department.
