Hi, I’m 25 years old this year and I have a 24-year-old girlfriend. I’m seeking advice on how to get back my money after she borrows money from me to buy her K-POP stuff.

We were together for 6 months and she shared her K-POP religion as if it’s a cult we cannot have a conversation without K-POP(every 5 sentences got one sentence she will associate or start the topic of K-POP) and whenever I’m out with her she is only shopping in those mini shops that sell fan merchandise.

She has like 50 over keychains with photos of different K-pop stars and many other merchandises like photos, cards, posters, figurines, CDs and a lot of garbage that is piling up in her room. She told me that she swapped her credit card to buy all these and was unable to pay them back. The bank has been sending her letters and demanding payment of over $10,000!!!

Even though she is in debt I tried to be a supportive boyfriend and tell her to cut down on her shopping. She told me that she is addicted to them and can’t stop.

She came to me saying that payday is not here and needed $400 to survive. I doubt it but got soft-hearted as she has been bugging me non-stop, feels like I’m forced into lending her the money. I treat the $400 as her last chance and decided to trust her one last time.

But end up I found new merchandise in her room. I confronted her and she admitted that she used the money I gave her to buy the merchandise. In a surge of fury, I threw all her stuff out the window.

She began crying and begging me not to touch them as they are more important than me. I was like wtf.

I leave her home straight and never saw her again. Till now I hope I can get my money back but I treat it as a lesson learned.

She shared that her friend, Jamie (names have been changed to protect their identities), has incurred heavy debts from gambling and on top of that, still needs to provide for her children, who have no father.

“I’ve known Jamie ever since we were in secondary school.

She was the sweetest girl back in the day, and was the kindest human being I’ve known.

But she met this guy, Daryl (name also changed to protect their identities), during her time in poly and she became a different person.

She started dating him and he got her pregnant, soon she gave birth to a healthy baby boy and they were gonna raise a family together.

She then got pregnant again a year later and gave birth to another baby boy, but the guy dumped her and left her alone with the 2 kids.

She soon dropped out of poly and started working part time.

It was during the 2018 world cup when she started betting on football matches, at first she won a few hundred dollars out of luck.

She then got addicted and started gambling more heavily, playing baccarat and mahjong and other gambling games.

She started losing money and soon borrowed money from everyone, including me, to continue her gambling habit, telling us that she needed the money for her kids when in fact she took it to gamble.

She thought that she could win back all the money that she lost but our advice fell on deaf ears.

She soon incurred debts of about $30k.

She came to me to borrow money again a few months ago and we had a little talk where I told her that if she continues her way, she will end up gambling away her life.

She then said that if only she had aborted her children when she was pregnant, she wouldn’t be in debt.

I have been married for over 5 years and know him for more than 7 years but only till recently found out a weird hobby of my husband, a bill arrived at our home yesterday and it was of a storage unit.

I asked my husband what was he storing, he told me some toy cars and some garbage comics he kept over the years and I did not probe further as it sounds very normal.

But my friend sends me a screenshot a week later of my husband’s Facebook profile and the screenshot was my husband offering to buy a barbie doll from the Facebook marketplace. I was a bit shocked as we only have 1 son and no daughters. I keep quiet thinking maybe it’s for me?

After a week, I decided to ask him. He denied it at first then I questioned if he has a woman outside or does he have any children outside. Suddenly a lot of things make sense to me, my husband always doesn’t have spare money to spend and always appears to be poor. He must be having a woman outside right? I was so wrong.

I kept asking till he gave in and said the doll was for himself, Initially, I did not believe him but he drove me to his storage locker and I finally realised that he was speaking the truth. There were hundreds and hundreds of Barbie dolls inside and I asked him why is he keeping them, he said that he always find them interesting and said that there is resale value to earn them.

Then I asked him, how much have he earned so far, he said none. When I ask why he did not tell me, he said it is embarrassing. Hey if it’s for making money then of course nothing is embarrassing about it. He broke down and said he always love barbie dolls and has been collecting them for a long time.

I told him hey, it’s ok. Women also have boyish hobbies it’s alright. I’m just glad there was no other woman outside. Maybe just some plastic woman, that’s fine and he has been a great husband so far. I felt kind of guilty that I thought that he had a woman outside. I even went shopping with him afterwards and I bought him a new barbie doll.

To all the women out there, don’t judge your husband, be supportive. Think about the good and not focus on the bad. There is no perfect husband or wife, there is only compromise and understanding.
