FOREIGN WORKER JAILED FOR SMASHING DORM MATE ON HEAD WITH STONE PESTLE

0

A 34 y.o foreign worker from Bangladesh, Moni Lal Chan, was sentenced to two months of imprisonment today (11 January) for hitting his dormitory mate, 25 y.o Ahmed Rabbi on the head with a stone pestle.

Moni pleaded guilty to one charge of voluntarily causing hurt.

The incident

Moni had hit Ahmed on his head with a stone pestle as the latter had insulted Moni’s dead mother after Moni had given the younger man some advice on how to be more efficient with the laundry.

Both were in the laundry room and Moni was unhapppy with Ahmed as he only put his own dirty laundry into the washing machine when he could have collected all the dirty laundry from the rest of his roommates and washed them together.

Ahmed was also told by Moni that washing the clothes together could save costs, which made Ahmed unhappy and he insulted Moni’s recently deceased mother.

This affected Moni as his mother had only passed away six months ago and his memory of her was still fresh.

The pair then were separated by the supervisor but Moni did not forget about it.

Hit Ahmed on head

On 1 December, Moni went into the kitchen area where Ahmed was preparing his meals for the following day and confronted him about the previous incident with regards to the washing of laundry as well as the insult where Ahmed had thrown to Moni regarding his mother.

Both of them started to argue again when suddenly, Moni picked up a stone pestle weighing about 500grammes and hit Ahmed once on his left forehead and twice on his back.

This caused Ahmed to bleed on his forehead and he sought the help of his dormitory mates and was subsequently sent to Ng Teng Fong Hospital for treatment.

Moni was then arrested by the Police on 2 December around 1am.

A medical report then confirmed that Ahmed had suffered a 2cm long cut to his forehead which required five stitches and some injuries on his left paraspinal muscle.

For his injuries, Ahmed was given five days of medical leave.

Penalties

Moni could have been given a jail term of up to three years, fined up to S$5,000 or both for voluntarily causing hurt to Ahmed.

Don Don Donki, the famous Japanese style shop with the penguin mascot is coming to Jewel Changi Airport, even with the ongoing lifestyle changes we have had for the past two years that are still things to look forward to.

The new outlet is expected to open in early 2023. According to Google maps, there are currently 13 outlets opened in Singapore right now.

Can’t go Japan, so they bring Japan to you

The new Don Don Donki outlet will have the size of about 1/3 of a football field and it will be located in Basement 1.

We all know that Don Don Donki has always kept a fun-looking design in their shops and this time they are featuring one that is of the airline theme. (Well, since it’s at Changi right). Staff will wear uniforms similar to the airline crew.

Alcohol lovers take note

The new Don Don Donki outlet will have a dedicated Sake section from all over Japan.

It will also include fresh food and even cooked food that is ready to go and the usual household items and much much more.

In Singapore, the Don Don Donki outlets would often play the English version of their famous song (Miracle Shopping).

Netizens discussed that they should play the Japanese version so it would feel “more like Japan”.

Here is the song

GUY JOKES WITH NURSE ABOUT HIS SESAME STREET FANTASY, NURSE STUPIDLY BELIEVES

0

A story was seen online which a guy shared about his experience at an unknown hospital which he had been going to see the doctor for an infection at his private area for the longest time in his life.

He shared that in one of his visits to the hospital, he had to release his ‘soldiers’ for the doctor to do tests on and the nurse guided him into a children’s room in the hospital to collect his ‘solders’ as there were no more available rooms.

The nurse then apologised for the lack of rooms and ‘materials’ to aid him in his collection of his ‘soldiers’ to which he joked that the sesame street characters, Ernie and Bert was enough ‘aid’ for him.

The nurse took his joke seriously and then went to share it with the other nurses who laughed continuously at the man while he was inside the room.

Here is the story

“Ok, here we go. I had to release into a cup to count my soldiers because I had a longtime infection in my private area.

Nurse said: “Sorry, you have to use the children’s room, every other room is occupied.”

So as I enter the room I see Sesame Street books, stuffed animals, colourful walls and a clock on the wall having animals as numbers.

The nurse tells me that there are no adult magazines available and I tried to be funny and said “Doesn’t matter, Ernie and Bert are enough for me to get off.”

She did not get the joke. Then she asked me if I know how to ‘do it’ and gave me a quick rundown on how to ‘do it’, all the while looking disgusted and angry.

Ok, so there I was, in a childrens room in a urology clinic trying to do it into a cup while stuffed animals were looking at me with a nurse right in front of the door.

I heard her telling the other nurses my fantasy about Sesame Street, they all laughed.

I had to start over.

When I got to the point where I thought that I could fill the cup, the clock on the wall started to “moo” and make super loud cow noises because it was 12 o’clock.

I must have sighed very loudly because the whole floor went nuts and started laughing even harder.

I had to start over again.

When I finally finished and left the room the nurses were still laughing.”

WOMAN ALLEGEDLY INFORMED BY COMPANY THAT SHE’S FIRED FOR BEING PREGNANT

0

A woman shared how she was allegedly fired from her job by her company for being pregnant.

Here is the story:

“Thank you for reading such a lengthy post.

Being pregnant is already not easy however pregnancy shouldn’t hinder us mothers from working. Today I received a phone call from my workplace which is a tuition Centre regards to the termination of my work. The reason? HR said due to my pregnancy and safety. In the first place , you shouldn’t had agreed to hire me when you knew of my pregnancy.

Such an absurd and cruel thing to do.

I hope to warn others whom are pregnant that is looking for a job to be aware of this kind of employer.

FYI , I am fully vaccinated !

*Replies to Human resource from *company name withheld* *

– Such a wicked liar you are and now you are gaslighting me. Why are you hiding by using a Facebook profile that was just joined today (11jan2022)

1) On interview day , I was being considerate for informing  earlier I was going to be late due to diarrhea however I came on the dot for interview. I was not late. But since it’s the HR words against mine, if I was really late and dissatisfactory towards my performance, you wouldn’t offer my a position there.

2) For employment, unfortunately I did not save the contract and she deleted away, no maternity leave was stated, there was no benefits under the the contract for service, therefore I asked nicely if she would be able to reconsider not giving CPF contribution or at least give me maternity leave since the pay is only $9 per hour and per month I was only given working 80 hours. (Picture attached )

3a) For everything that was mentioned by Ms *name withheld*, all my working shifts starts at 330pm.

On 4th January I had a glucose blood test and was unwell during the test , thus letting the Centre manager know in the morning that I wouldn’t be able to start working on my first day.

3b) 2 days before initial start date, my previous employer texted me and asked for my return.

Therefore being responsible, I decided to let *company name withheld* know of it.

3c) I had a swollen eye on 8th January past midnight and i informed Centre manager in case my eye got worse, eventually I made it to work.

4) termination letter did not state any reason.

On phone conversation, I was only given 2 choices, to serve notice or to leave immediately.

(Picture attached)

Dear Netizens, there’s only so much I can explain. It is my own fault for being too honest and diplomatic. Since HR of *company name withheld* does not agree to settle this matter amicably,  I would like the matter to rest as I am in my late pregnancy and would not want myself to be affected by all the twisted allegations made against me that HR has brought up.

My purpose of posting the first half is to spread awareness of pregnancy employment discrimination. Because it has happened to me, I hope everyone else does not go through what I had went through.”

ISWARAN – ABOUT 2,600 OMICRON INFECTIONS WERE IMPORTED INTO S’PORE

0

Minister of Transport S Iswaran said in Parliament on 10 January that there have been about 2,600 imported cases of omicron in Singapore, which makes up 60% of the total number of Omicron cases here.

The total number of Omicron cases in Singapore at the moment is 4,322, according to Minister of Health Ong Ye Kung.

The imported cases from the US and UK account for about 16 percent of the cases each, and India contributed 11%.

Iswaran also added that the bulk of the imported cases were Singapore Citizens, PRs and long-term visit pass holders who were returning to Singapore.

Short-term visitors made up less than 10% of all the Omicron cases.

VTL schemes

Iswaran said that the expansion of the VTL scheme is halted, and the launch of VTLs to Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the UAE were also deferred.

The daily quota of VTL air travelers have also been maintained at 10,000 instead of increasing it to 15,000 as planned.

VTL flight and bus tickets sales have also been frozen until 20 January, and the testing regime for VTL travelers are also tightened.

VTL travelers are also required to undergo daily self-administered ART tests from day 2 to day 7 of their arrival in Singapore – those who test positive will then take a PCR test to confirm the results.

Several years for air travel to recover

Iswaran added that while air travel will take several years to recover, the government is confident of the long-term potential of air travel and is “resolutely committed” to rebuilding Singapore’s status as an international air hub.

Iswaran also spoke about the growth of air travel in Singapore for 2021, he said:

“Compared to 3% at the start of 2021, passenger traffic at Changi increased to about 15% of pre-Covid levels by end-December 2021, largely aided by our VTL schemes.”

He then cited a study by IATA and Oxford Economics, where the projected international passenger volume at the end of 2022 will recover to about 55% of 2019’s levels and “barring unexpected setbacks like Omicron”, they are anticipating further recovery in 2022.

MOH STUDYING NZ’S COHORT SMOKING BAN TO TRY TO APPLY IT IN SPORE

0

Senior Minister of State for Health, Dr Koh Poh Koon, said today (11 Jan) that the Singapore Government is studying from New Zealand’s recent move to start a cohort smoking ban.

New Zealand has previously announced that people under the age of 14 from 2027 will never be allowed to buy cigarettes in their lifetime.

Dr Koh added that this sounds attractive as it prevents the younger generation here from picking up smoking while not putting any restrictions on the older smokers.

Dr Koh has said this in response to questions put up by five MPs in parliament.

Consideration factors

While MOH is opened to a policy like this, there are factors that will be taken into consideration.

The first factor was that Singapore’s youth are generally not taking up smoking as much as youths in other countries.

Youths these days see the harmful effects of smoking and no longer think that it is ‘cool’ to smoke, added Dr Koh.

Vaping a problem

Dr Koh added that while NZ has promote a ban on smoking, it uses vaping as an alternative, something which Singapore disagrees with.

He mentioned that vaping remains a problem in Singapore amongst the younger generation here as e-cigarettes still find their way into the country even with many bans in place.

He also said that there is much more to be done to keep the current enforcement actions in place.

Enforcement actions against older generation

Dr Koh also added that enforcement action will be a challenge.

This is because to ensure that such a ban is effective, the government will need to come out with laws to punish older people who are not subjected to these bans but may aid in supplying tobacco products to the younger generation.

GIRL LOST $4,000 AFTER CATFISHED BY “TAIWANESE GUY INVESTMENT”

0

Greed always appears to be one of the main reasons why people lose money on the internet, the worse part is it is often combined with photos of either handsome guys or pretty girls.

A netizen posted online of how she lost $4,000 after she was catfished by a “man” on the internet after getting catfished.

Here is the story:

Connected with ‘Hayden’ (Taiwanese who has worked in HK before and is working in SG now) on the Hinge app in early Dec. We moved to Telegram on the same day and he deleted his profile the next day (RF). We talked on Telegram for 2 weeks, in English and Chinese, before he introduced me to the fake/spoofed crypto trading website. I brought up the topic of meeting physically and/or video call but he would declined by saying that he wants to take it slow/changed the topic(RF).

I caught him using fake photos(catfish!) and info since his words often didn’t match his Hinge profile (RF). He admitted it and told me he has trust issues with people because of his broken family and experiences and I was dumb to accept it for that hit my sore spot.

We temporarily ended the convo in Week 3, but he still Telegram me a few days later to ‘invest’ again. I trusted his “investment advice” because of his financially savvy image portrayed during our investment discussion.

Some other Red Flags(RF) about the platform:
1) Weird weblinks (ending with .xyz) that was changed every few days. One of them even triggered Chrome to show that it is a phishing website.
2) The mobile app by “Oriental Wealth”, a fake company with fake logo. User interface quite suspicious with broken English and invalid webpages(e.g. user agreement page).
3) Informed by “Customer Service” (CS) on Whatsapp(HK#) to transfer money to some personal bank accounts (most likely job scam victims), which changed whenever I deposited into the “trading account”.

4) Platform has options to ‘invest’ in 60s(min.$100HKD), 120s($1000HKD) and 12hrs settings. Longer period need more capital($) and can generate more ‘profit’(Online betting!!!)

5) He will ‘analyse’ the BTC chart and calculate the amount($) for me to key in into the website/app (buy long/short) for each ‘trade’, based on his special algorithm.
I started with $500SGD and $2000SGD with the 60s setting for the first 2 tries and got back the capital with the ‘profits’ in my bank account by the next day.
I pumped in $4kSGD next and ‘traded’ a few rounds and stopped when he said the “market was volatile”. Those few rounds didn’t “meet the minimum transaction volume” and they didn’t approve my withdrawal request.

I told him about it, and he persuaded met to try the 120s option to get more profit. Since he will “cover” the additional $6kSGD by informing the CS that he topped up the “trading ID”, I relented. This time, the profits ballooned to around $30kSGD.

I checked with CS a few days later when the money wasn’t in and they directed me to ‘service department”, whom informed me that my account was frozen due to the large foreign transaction and need to pay 15% of the withdrawal amount in 10 days or forfeit that $(profit+capital)(RF). I checked online (scamalert website etc) and finally accepted that I’ve been scammed.

So, please don’t be greedy and do your research first!!!

CAT CLIMBS INTO CLEMENTI CLAW MACHINE TO FIND HIS WARM FRIENDS

Sometimes, seeing a community cat can often brighten our day or they can be naughty and get into places they should not.

A user of the local cat Facebook group managed to take photos of a cat exploring a claw machine and shared it yesterday (Jan 10).

The post captioned:

“Kaypo fur baby exploring the claw machine… no fur baby is hurt in this “magic”.”

The post gathered quite a bit of attention from the local cat community and the photos has since gone viral as it is not something we see everyday.

Some Facebook users were also curious where they can “catch this” implying wanting to bring the cute animal home.
