SATS CARGO HANDLER JAILED FOR STEALING BIRD NEST IN TRANSIT AT CHANGI AIRPORT

0

A cargo handler with SATS working at Changi Airport has been given 18 weeks of jail for stealing S$3,580 worth of Bird Nest which was in transit in Singapore and bound for Taipei.

Pang Lishuai, 28, was also slapped with a fined of S$2,000.

He pleaded guilty in court today for a charge each of breaching regulations controlling the movement into a protected area, as well as committing an act of theft by a clerk or servant of property in possession of a master.

Another charge was also taken into consideration for his involvement in stealing a forklift last year.

Details of his crime

The Bird Nest had arrived into Singapore from Jakarta on 19 November and was stored inside a cargo cage at SATS Airfreight Terminal 5.

It was bound for Taipei on the following day at 8am.

Pang entered the airfreight terminal at 3am on 20 November even though he was not on duty at that time.

Thereafter, he changed into this work uniform and then headed over to the cargo sorting area without the cargo hub operations manager’s consent.

He then used a forklift to steal the Bird Nest.

He threw his loots to the other side of the ramp before he changed out of his uniform, collected it from the grass patch and headed home.

A police report was then lodged at 6am after the discovery of a missing shipment of Bird Nest.

Prosecutor findings

The prosecutor found that Pang had stolen the cargo box because he knew that there was something valuable inside, and Pang also sold all the loots to a woman for $5,000.

The bird nest was also never recovered and Pang did not make any restitution for the stolen loots.

Pang then asked the court through an interpreter for a lighter sentence, claiming that he has two young children and elderly parents to support.

He also mentioned that he is a divorcee and his children had no love from their mother so he hopes that he can go back to China soon.

Penalties

For violating the regulations for entry into a protected area, Pang could have been given a jail term of up to 2 years, receive a fine of up to $20,000 or both.

For his act of theft as a clerk or servant of property, Pang could have received a jail term of up to seven years and fined for his actions.

0

Lim Kok Chong, 51-years-old, pleaded guilty earlier today (11 January) to assaulting a 15-year-old boy by headbutting him multiple times.

He is expected to be sentenced on 25 January.

What happened?

Lim was riding his PAB on a pedestrian footpath on 21 August at around 11.30pm at Ang Mo Kio Avenue 10, when he jammed his brakes to avoid a collision with the victim and his friends, who were standing on the pathway.

He told the group to move away and they complied, and Lim (who was sending a food order at the time) then stopped his bicycle a few metres from the group.

The group then went to a coffeeshop nearby – the victim was walking on the footpath and Lim followed him because he was upset.

The victim then turned around to look at Lim, and Lim then flashed an obscene gesture at him and they got into an argument.

Lim then approached the boy at about 11.40pm and headbutted him in the cheek once and didn’t reply when the boy asked him why he reacted like that.

He then continued to headbutt the vicim’s left cheek about three more times.

It is unclear who called the police but officers later arrived at the scene not long after, along with paramedics who noticed the boy’s left cheek was swollen.

The victim was given a cold compress before being released to his father and didn’t go to hospital for further treatment.

GIRL WORKING AT CLOTHES SHOP, BOSS KEEPS SHOUTING & SPYING ON WORKERS VIA CCTV

0

A netizen shared how his girlfriend started working at a clothes shop and her boss keeps shouting at her and watching them on the CCTV.

Here is the story:

“This is just a warning to people finding a temp job.

My gf just started working at a popular japanese clothes chain in the west as a temp job. It’s located in a shopping mall.

She and her other colleagues were always being shouted at and scolded by the store manager there. Not only her, other workers too. They only do this in the staff room of course.

It’s fine if they’re getting scolded because of their own mistakes. But sometimes the store management gets personal and mention stuff like “your mother/father never teach you is it?” Scolding would be in front of other employees, so there are witnesses.

The management also doesn’t trust the employees at all, that they need to check cctv to monitor employees. For example, you were supposed to do X from 1-4pm. But store manager was away during that time or perhaps busy. She/he will claim that she/he did not see you do your work and pick a fight with you. She/he will then check the CCTV to ensure you indeed did what was supposed to be done. If the work was already done, why still need to check CCTV???

I would say; to those who are still working there, try to stand up to these people. Better still, get evidence and make the toxic workplace visible to the world. Bosses should learn how to treat their employees right, and such bosses should not exist.”

ENCIK TAN PARENT COMPANY FEI SIONG FINED 4K FOR FLOUTING 1 METRE SAFE DISTANCING

0

Fei Siong Food Management was slapped with a S$4,000 fine today (11 Jan) for one of their outlet’s failure to ensure that diners’ chair were kept to a 1m safe distancing space from other tables.

The outlet in question is the Encik Tan outlet at Orchard Road where Fei Siong Food Management is a parent company of.

Prior to this incident, Fei Siong was given up to eight composition or out of court fines for violations of control orders at other outlets which they owned.

They currently have 150 outlets across Singapore.

Inspected outlet at 313@Somerset

Officers from the Singapore Tourism Board (STB), went to carry out enforcement checks at Encik Tan’s 313@Somerset outlet on 14 May 2021 at about 7.50pm.

They stood and observed the outlet running its operations for about five minutes and thereafter started to measure the distance between chairs of customers dining at the outlet after seeing that no action was taken by the staff to ensure that customers kept to the safe distancing requirements.

Instead of being 1m apart, the distance which the officers measured were 44cm, 79cm and 88cm respectively.

Flouting of rules caused by manpower shortage

In Fei Siong’s defense at a court session, Mr Lew, the lawyer representing Fei Siong said that Fei Siong fell short of the safe management measures due to the lack of manpower at the outlet.

He added that it was dinner time on Friday and the manpower shortage meant that there was inadequate manpower to ensure that diners adhered to the measures.

He asked the court to consider the difficulties faced by Fei Siong in enforcing the rules at its 150 outlets across Singapore, and added that Fei Siong always had a safe management plan for all its outlets and that brand managers will always communicate it to the employees at the outlets.

On top of communicating with the employees on such measures, the managers will also go down to the outlets occasionally to see that the measures are kept.

He ended by saying that the mere few cm which the outlet were short by were not done in defiance.

Penalties

In sentencing, the judge said that the fact where the group had been given composition fines for eight occasions had to be taken into consideration.

Fei Siong could have been given a fine of up to S$10,000 for flouting the measures.
