0

A boat that was allegedly ferrying a group of illegal immigrants capsized off Southern Johor yesterday morning, resulting in 10 being dead and 29 still missing, according to Reuters.

21 people were reported safe and the boat was believed to have been capsized because of the adverse weather conditions.

According to Yahoo Malaysia, the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) said that the boat experienced difficulties in the waters on 15 December at around 4.30am, off Tanjung Balau and a search-and-rescue operation was then launched at 8.50am.

They dispatched a KM Tegas patrol boat, a Petir 50 boat and an AW 139 Agusta aircraft to help with the search operations.

At the time of writing, it remains unclear if the boat was leaving or entering the waters of Malaysia.

GUY BOUGHT AIRPODS PRO FROM LAZADA FOR $240, ENDS UP BEING FAKE

Local comedian Mr. Brown shared how his friend’s son bought a pair of AirPods Pro from Lazada and was told by a staff member at Apple Store that it is fake.

Here is the story:

“PSA: Friend’s son bought a $239.49 AirPods Pro from Lazada and it developed problems. Took it to Apple Store and found out that it’s fake. The serial number has been flagged and used for many similar fakes.

Genuine AirPods Pro are $379. If the price is too good to be true, like low $200+, it is probably fake.

Please buy your AirPods from authorized dealers, the actual Apple website or the Apple Store. It’s not worth the risk of getting fake goods from dodgy sources.

Update: There is an authorized LazMall store where they sell genuine AirPods. So you can get it from there too.

Looks like they sometimes sell it as low as $289. As far as I know, that’s an authorized Apple LazMall store.

AppleCare for fake AirPods

Update 2: Geraldine shares an interesting story of her experience with a fake. It looks like fake AirPods can clear the Apple Support serial number check online, and you can even purchase AppleCare for it, but you find out it is fake only when you take it in for servicing.

“This is my personal experience buying 2 sets of AirPods Pro from Shopee.I bought the cheaper set after reading good reviews from other buyers saying that they are able to register the units and purchase Apple Care hence they must be genuine.

However when the AirPods started showing problems, I brought them to Apple Store at Jewel and was told they are fake.

The staff went on to explain that being able to register the AirPods and even paying for Apple Care does not indicate that the items are genuine.

If the customer has unwittingly paid for Apple Care, Apple will simply refund the price for Apple Care without honouring the warranty.

Thankfully they gave me a letter stating that the item is fake and I was able to get full refund from Shopee.

On the other hand, the slightly more expensive set is genuine, also verified by Apple Store at Jewel. After rebates, I paid $239 for this genuine set.

Tip: If the AirPods come with less than 12 months warranty, it is definitely fake (cloned serial number). Genuine units should allow you to register with full 12 months warranty.”

HUSBAND WIPES OUT SAVINGS TO BUY LUXURY CAR, SAYS IT’S TO “REWARD HIMSELF”

0

A woman shared how her husband wiped out his savings to buy a luxury car and told her that it was to reward himself, she then questions the need to make such a buy when they are trying for a baby.

Here is the story:

“I’m so angry that my husband bought a luxury car and wiped out his savings in the process, and it’s going to be a lot out of our pocket every month.

We still have our joint savings that he didn’t touch, but I just felt like he was too impulsive.

I asked him if he ever considered that he wouldn’t be able to pay off the rest, and he asked why I was such a pessimist.

He explained that it’s something to reward himself, to push himself to work harder, and it’s probably the one and only chance in a long while before he buys something for himself since we are trying for a baby.

To be fair to him, he is always very generous to his family and friends, and has the mindset that money can always be earned back.

But I can’t stomach the fact that he willingly made such a huge purchase just like that, and the thing is he only drives probably less than 5 times a month as he doesn’t drive to work.

I just feel like the money can be put to much better use like investments and other stuff???”

Editor’s note: This is going to be one of those “oh I wish I hadn’t done that” moments a few years down the road.

WOMAN’S AUNTIE KEEPS ASKING HER IF HER BOYFRIEND IS CHEATING ON HER

0

A netizen shared how her relative is being passive-aggressive and keeps putting toxic thoughts in her, such as asking if her boyfriend (now husband) is cheating on her.

Here is the story:

“How to best handle an annoying relative?

I have this Auntie who started her nonsense when I was still dating. Put in toxic thoughts in me, ie. Asking if my then-bf was cheating when I told her that he’s busy.

Kept asking me to get married even though my then-bf haven’t propose as he was poor & just started working. She knew but obviously don’t care.

Fast forward I got married, had a child. 6mths after giving birth, at our family dinner gathering in the mall, she touched my mummy tummy (slightly bulging belly) in front of everyone and commented that my tummy is big.

1 year later, she nagged at me every single time she saw me to have a 2nd child. Even when my husband was present, she would say it to me only.

We had our plans but couldn’t tell her as she doesn’t try to listen and understand. So my ears had to suffer for years.

And when we finally had our 2nd child (and opposite gender), I thought she will stop. (I am fine with any gender as long as baby is healthy.

But knowing her, she would definitely say something like ‘Try for a girl…a girl is ‘better’) And now she starts to nag at me to have a 3rd child every time we meet.

Hits back

Then at a mutual relative’s wedding, she touched my mummy tummy again and in front of everyone, laughed at me again.

I was angry, my instant reaction was to touch her tummy back & pointing out that I have 2 children while she had only 1. (Not my best behavior but I felt she needed a mirror)

Her biological child was single and didn’t have any children yet. So why focus on me? I can handle her naggings (pretending to be deaf or pregnant with 3rd child) but I can’t handle the unexpected touch-tummy-and-jeer as politely.

Definitely avoiding her as much as possible but I can’t run away forever. Luckily my mother-in-law is not like her.”

Editor’s note: Just call her out in front of everyone.
