According to the Police media release, a 53-year-old woman was arrested for her suspected involvement in a series of investment scams.
The Police received reports that they were purportedly cheated by a woman in an investment scheme involving the buying and selling of branded bags from multiple victims on Feb 3.
The woman allegedly led the victims to believe that they could earn a 12% commission from performing transactions with the woman. The victims participated in the scheme and transferred funds to a bank account provided by the woman. After making the bank transfer, the victims purportedly did not receive the commission as promised. The victims later suspected that they had fallen victim to a scam and reported the matter to the Police.
Identification
Tanglin Police Division investigated the incident which established the identity of the 53-year-old woman and arrested her on 8 February 2022. A mobile phone was seized as a case exhibit.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the woman is believed to be involved in at least three cases of investment scams amounting to $24,100.
If the woman is found guilty of cheating, the offence carries an imprisonment term of up to ten years and a fine..

According to the Police media release, 157 people consisting of 97 men and 60 women are under investigation for a variety of scams.
Commercials Affairs Department and 7 Police Land Divisions conducted an operation against scams that last for two weeks between 28 January and 10 February 2022
The 157 individuals are assisting in investigations for their suspected involvement in scams as scammers or money mules.
The suspects are believed to be involved in more than 495 cases of scams, comprising mainly of”

bank-related phishing scams
tech support scams
China/Government Officials impersonation scams
investment scams
job scams
loan scams
In total, the victims lost over $2 million.
Potential Penalties:
The suspects are being investigated for the alleged offences of cheating, money laundering or providing payment services without a licence. The offence of cheating under Section 420 of the Penal Code 1871 carries an imprisonment term of up to 10 years and a fine.
The offence of money laundering under the Corruption, Drug Trafficking and Other Serious Crimes (Confiscation of Benefits) Act 1992 carries an imprisonment term not exceeding 10 years, a fine not exceeding $500,000, or both. The offence of carrying on a business to provide any type of payment service in Singapore without a licence under Section 5 of the Payment Services Act 2019 carries a fine not exceeding $125,000, an imprisonment term not exceeding three years, or both.

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) and SMRT Trains announced today (11 Feb) that train services along their Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL) will start operating later on weekends from 26 February 2022.
From 26 February 2022 all the way to 29 May 2022, train services on the line on Saturdays and Sundays will start at 8am instead.
As for timings for the first trains and last trains on weekdays, they remain as status quo, typically starting at 5.48am and ending around midnight everyday.
Later start time allows time for testing
Both the LTA and SMRT said that starting the services later on weekends will allow more time for engineering staff to test the integrated systems and trains for stations which are already operational as of today.
The TEL line currently runs from Woodlands North to Caldecott.
The later start time will also allow SMRT to test the systems for the next stage of the TEL’s opening which is expected to be from sometime in the second half of the year.
Public advised to check on the operating hours
Both the LTA and SMRT also advised the public to check on the operating hours and timings of the line before starting their journey.
There are also existing bus services such as 162/162M, 167, 855, 856 and 980 that runs along the TEL line and commuters can use them to travel instead in the affected hours.
These bus services also connects commuters to other lines such as the Circle Line and North-South Line for the commuters to continue their commute on the MRT network.

The Singapore Customs recently uploaded a post on their social media platforms about the recent arrest of a 30 year old Chinese national for having contraband cigarettes in his possession and allegedly throwing them outside of his HDB room’s window when customs officers came to his unit for a check.
The incident happened on 9 February 2022 at his residence at Woodlands Avenue 4.
Customs officers then went to search the area and subsequently found a carton and ten packets of duty unpaid cigarettes on top of the sheltered walkway at the man’s block and also at the ground floor.
The man was then brought to court to be charged on 11 February 2022.

On 9 Feb 2022, Singapore Customs arrested a 30-year-old Chinese national for possession of duty-unpaid cigarettes and for attempting to prevent the lawful seizure of the cigarettes. When Singapore Customs officers approached the man’s residence at Woodlands Ave 4, he allegedly threw the duty-unpaid cigarettes out of his room’s window. Officers subsequently recovered one carton and 10 packets of duty-unpaid cigarettes from the walkway shelter and ground floor of the block. The man was charged in court on 11 Feb 2022.”
Possible penalties
Offenders who are caught importing duty-unpaid cigarettes or manufactures them are liable for a fine of up to $5,000.
These cigarettes refers to ‘contraband’ and are seen without the ‘SDPC’ or vertical bar markings on them.
For offenders caught in possession of such contraband cigarettes or caught smoking them, the fine for possession of one pack is $500 for a first time offender.
Those caught with possession of more than one pack of contraband cigarettes will be fined more than $500 depending on the number of packs the offender is caught with or if he or she has previously offended before.
A man or boy was spotted riding his PMD on the road along Woodlands Avenue 5 towards the area near Woodlands Civic Center
The rider was spotted waiting for the traffic light to turn green as if it is a motorbike. The vehicle resembles a mini bike but there was no license plate on the vehicle.
The vehicle is most likely unregistered as registered e-scooter must be affixed with an Identification Mark bearing the registration numbering PMD on the road.
Potential Penalties
Under the Active Mobility Act, it is an offence for PMDs to be used on roads, footpaths and/or pedestrian-only paths – PMDs are only allowed to be used on shared paths (cycling paths).
Offenders caught riding their PMDs on the roads, footpaths and/or pedestrian-only paths, face a fine of up to $2,000 and/or a jail term of up to 3 months.
Riding without helmet
It is mandatory for all cyclists to wear helmets when riding on roads. Those caught riding bicycles and power-assisted bicycles on roads without wearing a helmet can be fined up to $1,000 and/or jailed up to three months upon conviction for the first offence.
Riding group size
from 1 Jan 2022, a new regulation will also kick in – cycling groups must not exceed the maximum length of 5 bicycles (or ten cyclists when riding two abreast where permitted). Errant on-road cyclists will also face a higher composition fine of $150 with effect from 1 Jan 2022.”
A post was seen online accompanied with photo evidence complaining about the way the driver of a BMW vehicle had decided to park his or her car.
The pictures were purportedly taken in the basement carpark of JEM shopping mall in Jurong East on 10 February 2022 at about 1715 hours.
The driver of the black BMW motor vehicle bearing the vehicle license plate of SML7471K had apparently decided to park his or her vehicle in a parallel fashion in the parking lots meant for vertical parking.
The actions of the driver led to three vertical parking lots taken up by his or her vehicle as it was parked horizontally across the three lots.

A Malaysian man was tragically broken up by his girlfriend because the bank deposit was only RM50k, the monthly income was RM4-5k, and he could only eat Haidilao once a month, which made his girlfriend feel a lot of “insecurity”.
“You 27-year-old bank only has RM50k, which is very little! It seems that it will be used up in a month, break up!”.

The Basic Military Training Centre (BMTC) recently uploaded photos into an album on their Facebook page showing the enlistment for the BMT cohort of 02/22.
What was different in the enlistment exercise for this cohort this time round is that parents and loved ones were welcomed back to Pulau Tekong for their sons’ enlistment exercise.
This is after a hiatus of two years which stopped visitors from going into the island to send their sons off to start of their National Service life because of the ongoing pandemic.
BMTC gave the reason that Singapore is transiting towards endemic living and thus they have decided to let parents and loved ones come to send the enlistees off.
Parents and loved ones required to take ART test
As part of safe management measures and to ensure the safety of the recruits and staff on Pulau Tekong, parents and loved ones who visited the island were required to take supervised Antigen Rapid Tests (ART) before they were granted permission into the island.
Guided tour of the facilities
Parents and loved ones were also treated to a guided tour of the facilities in Tekong where the enlistees would live and train in for their entire BMT period.
They were also introduced to the equipment which would be issued to the enlistees right before they were led to the main auditorium to see the enlistees take the oath of allegiance.
After the tour, they got to bade their farewells before leaving the island.

At Pulau Tekong, parents and loved ones will be treated to a guided tour of the various training venue & structures, enlistees’ bunks and lastly, an explainer of the equipment that will be issued to every enlistee.
Before ending off their trip, they will be ushered to the Main Auditorium where they will get the opportunity to see their child take the sacred oath of allegiance and also bid their goodbyes.

In a Facebook post by Defence Minister, Dr Ng Eng Hen, he shared that the Singapore Army will be reinforcing the Ministry of Health (MOH) with about 100 soldiers to support the nation’s fight against the Omicron wave.
These soldiers will be sent to provide support in the National Call Centre, where they will be answering to public queries, providing information for guidance and give assurance to patients who have tested positive in the weeks to come.

Urges public to see doctor only if their symptoms are life threatening
MOH on Sunday had reported that the emergency departments in the hospitals are seeing patients in the masses which resulted in longer lines and waiting time to see a doctor.
They added that most of the patients who came to consult a doctor did not have severe symptoms which needed emergency care and that the time spent on seeing such patients would result in those really needing the doctor’s attention to get lesser attention on their conditions.
It advised the public to only go to the hospitals if they need emergency treatment for life threatening or serious conditions such as shortness of breath, chest pains and uncontrollable breathing.Ng
With this, patients who really are in need for a doctor for their life threatening symptoms can be attended to quickly and there will be more bed space in hospitals for those who really need them.
Situation report on Thursday
On Thursday, Singapore reported 10,686 new cases with one fatality and these brought the total toll in Singapore to 439,640 cases and 882 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.
