On May 21, Zhang Wei Yao 56-years-old was sentenced to 91 months in jail. He pleaded guilty to 17 charges, including breach of trust, cheating and molestation. Another 103 charges were taken into consideration during sentencing.

In 2017, the accused lied to a woman that he is in the hotel reservation business and said if she invested 10 thousand dollars in him, she could get back the principal and interest of $1,400.

The woman trusted the accused and gave him more than $70,000. Shortly after, the accused used up all the money.

The woman repeatedly asked for the money back and so the accused invited the woman to a hotel room on September 27 to discuss. As she had borrowed money from the bank for this investment, she had no choice but to oblige.

When she arrived at the hotel room, she requested the accused to return the money. The perpetrator ignored her request and wanted to massage her legs instead. The woman initially declined but eventually, she agreed.

The accused started massaging her calf, then touched the woman’s inner thigh. The woman tried to escape, but the accused hugged her and wanted to kiss her. She then fled the hotel room.

To get back the money, the woman met the accused again in a hotel on October 17 but the accused molested her again. She then finally decided to make a police report.

The woman was severely traumatized by this incident, and no longer dare to approach men. She even broke up with her boyfriend of 2 years.

INDIA WANTS SOCIAL MEDIA TO REMOVE ALL “INDIAN VARIANT” REFERENCES

India’s Information Technology Ministry issued a letter to all social media companies, requesting them to take down all content that refers to the “Indian variant” of Covid-19.

They Indian government then issued a statement saying that media reports calling the B1617 covid-19 variant, the “Indian variant” were without any basis.

The letter asked companies to “remove all the content” that implies the “Indian variant”, it said:

“This is completely FALSE. There is no such variant of Covid-19 scientifically cited as such by the World Health Organisation. WHO has not associated the term ‘Indian Variant’ with the B1617 variant of the coronavirus in any of its reports.”

An Indian government representative said the notice was issued to send a message “loud and clear” that the “Indian variant” hurts the country’s image.

An unnamed social media executive said that it would be difficult to accede India’s request because there would be hundred of thousands of such posts, and that it would lead to a keyword based censorship going forward.
