0

SSSSSSTUCK NO MORE 🐍] On Tuesday morning, AVA were alerted to a python sighting in a canal drain at Queen’s Road. When AVA arrived at the scene, the python was found stuck in the canal pipe, with one-third of its body exposed. The python was successfully rescued after a few minutes and sent to Wildlife Reserves Singapore, where it is doing well now.

AVA advises the public not to approach, disturb, feed or try to catch any wildlife. Keep a safe distance from all snakes and avoid confronting or cornering the animals. Do not interact with the animal, and ensure that young children and pets are kept away as they may be curious and approach it.

The public can refer to the advisory on snakes on our website, and contact AVA at 1800-476-1600 to provide feedback or request for assistance.

CLARIFICATION ON LION AND DRAGON DANCE PERFORMANCE :SPF

Police are aware of an online post containing a video about a flag performance by a lion and dragon dance troupe which took place at Prinsep Street on the night of 24 Feb 2018.

Police had received a complaint about the performance at 10.33pm. Contrary to the allegation in the post, Police officers had responded to the call and arrived on the ground at 10.54pm. They warned the troupe to stop the performance as it was not in compliance with the conditions under which they were allowed to perform. The troupe complied.

Chinese lion and dragon dance performances are cultural performances, as opposed to religious events which are more sensitive from a law and order perspective. They are allowed under the Public Entertainments Act so long as they comply with certain conditions, including the playing of drums and cymbals, similar to kompangs being allowed at Malay cultural events and also the nathaswaram, thavil and melas at Indian cultural events.

G”Just wanted to share this with everyone, this is a coworker of mine. Her cute little glittery phone case got a small crack in it at work while in her front pocket. The liquid inside went all over her leg and did this to her. This happened a few weeks ago and she still has little holes in her skin.. If you have this case get rid of it ASAP!”

69,048 CANS OF DUTY UNPAID BEER WAS DECLARED AS FRUIT PUNCH WAS UNCOVERED BY ICA OFFICERS

0

There is a lack of punch…

ICA officers at Pasir Panjang Scanning Station detected 69,048 cans of duty-unpaid beer in a consignment declared as fruit punch on 19 Feb.

The duty and Goods and Services Tax of the duty-unpaid beer amounted to about S$86,580 and S$20,140 respectively. Investigation by Singapore Customs is ongoing.

This method of concealment is a cause for concern as it may be used by people with ill intent to smuggle security items into Singapore.

13 immigration offenders arrested

ICA officers conducted an inland operation around Singapore on 22 Feb. Among those arrested, nine had overstayed in Singapore. The remaining four persons, a Singaporean and three foreigners, are being investigated for employing or harbouring immigration offenders.

The ICA takes a serious view of attempts to overstay, enter or depart Singapore illegally. Homeowners are advised to exercise due diligence in checking the status of their prospective foreign tenants to ensure that their status in Singapore is legal.

SG AUTHORITIES CAUGHT MAN TRYING TO SMUGGLE RHINOS HORN THRU SINGAPORE!

In Aug 2017, AVA collaborated with Singapore Customs and Immigration & Checkpoints Authority to investigate an attempt to smuggle illegal wildlife products through Singapore. A 29-year-old man, Nguyen Vinh Hai, was stopped upon arrival at Changi Airport and his luggage was inspected. Eight pieces of cut rhino horns and a bag of rhino horn shavings were detected and seized.

Nguyen has been sentenced to 15 months’ imprisonment today for smuggling illegal rhino horns and horn shavings through Singapore.

While AVA continues to work with border control and partner enforcement agencies to maintain vigilance, tackling illegal wildlife trade requires concerted efforts of all stakeholders, including the public. Demand is the impetus for poachers of endangered animals. The public can help reduce demand by not buying wildlife parts and products. The public can also alert AVA of any suspected cases of illegal wildlife trade, and provide information.

NETIZEN FEELS THAT MORE CAN BE DONE TO PRESERVE THE TREES IN SINGAPORE! (VIDEO)

0

I have not edited this video or tried to dramatise it with special effects .This is the sad state of affairs in our country today ( 24 Feb 18 ) and it just looks set to get worse unless we have a Minister of Common Sense in our Cabinet . 18 of these majestic trees that line bukit batok west avenue 3 were uprooted to make way for building more HDB flats in 2016 (which I have documented on Youtube). Now, more of them are sadly being uprooted again, & residents like me have no clue as to why. These trees have an appearance which many mistake to be unhealthy but they are strong, can outlive many generations and survive some of the toughest conditions.

The first sign a tree is sick is when it loses its foliage, but as you can see in the footage, the trees have healthy foliage . The base of the trees which have been cut are bright & strong . There are no signs of decay in any of the cut trunks from the largest to the smallest branches. They are in tip top condition. These majestic trees which have been here for at least 30 + years are breathtaking to look at – but what is most important is that in terms of impacts on our health, trees in urban areas are substantially more important than rural trees due to their proximity to people . A very large study in Toronto showed that an additional 11 trees along a neighborhood street improves health in a way comparable to “being 1.4 years younger.” It is the opposite over here – we face a double whammy . We are being suffocated by the eradication of our country side & have not much option but to spend time in fake, superficial amenities like malls, indoor & outdoor playgrounds that are made of material which emit harmful chemicals for us & our children . Is it any wonder why the authorities need to build more hospitals as singaporeans continue to be afflicted with all types of diseases and at a younger age too. Trees such as these must be removed only if there is a compelling reason to do so ……pls STOP the Tree Cutting Campaign in Singapore.
