For fellow students who are stressed out looking for jobs, there is always a door open for you.
I was from a local poly, with a rather okay gpa of 3.7. Was aiming for NTU, but couldn’t get into any of the courses (despite applying for cut off point of 3.6 and below. ) Went to a private uni ultimately, and graduated within a year (due to exemptions).
Graduated last year August, and was very worried that most employers will favour local degrees over private degrees, much less a graduate who only studied for one year in uni. Started searching for jobs in end of Sept (to allow myself one month of rest time).
I was very lucky to get a job by November, despite going for roughly 7 interviews. And truly, most employers asked nothing about my gpa. They were more focused on my experience for part time and internship.
I thought private degrees would pay much lesser than market rates, as we can see from internet. However, I got offered a job which is totally unrelated to the field I studied, and got a decent starting pay of 2.8k for a private degree fresh grad.
So don’t worry, things will definitely work out for all of you out there. Try out different fields if you’re unable to find one of your course. This will even allow you to learn and gain a new skill set.
