
According to a media release, a 36-year-old dentist was sentenced to 46 weeks imprisonment for his involvement in cheating, submitting false claims and falsifying medical records.
The man is a dentist and director of Phoenix Dental Surgery which has 2 clinics during the time of the incident. The incident happened between Aug 2014 – Oct 2015. in the period of 15 months, the man had submitted 25 subsidies claims via the Community Health Assist Scheme (CHAS) which total up to $31,583. $18,618.50 of the total sum was obtained through falsifying medical records of his patient.
According to his lawyer, the defendant broke the law not because of greed but from the financial stress that he is bearing. In order to keep the business going, he then decides to submit false claims as a way to reduce his financial stress
