After 6 days of clogged traffic at the Suez Canal, where tens of millions of dollars are being lost in the global trade economy daily; the Ever Given has finally been freed, with the Suez Canal finally clear again.
The huge container vessel was lodged sideways, blocking the canal after it marooned on 23 March.
Salvage teams have managed to free the Ever Given after diggers removed 27,000 cubic meteres of sand from the banks of the Suez Canal.
In an Instagram livestream, the captain of the rescue crew heaved a sigh of relief after the Ever Given was freed and flashed a thumbs up, as cheers could be heard in the background of the video.
It is worth noting that the Suez Canal sees about 12 per cent of global trade pass through its waters each day, along with around one million barrels of oil and roughly eight per cent of liquefied natural gas.
