Legendary Hong Kong singer Jacky Cheung, fresh off an impressive 11-night concert run in Singapore, is now performing in Malaysia with a series of six performances.
While his third show on August 13th stirred up a unique buzz, Cheung was seen in circulating videos collapsing onstage during his show.
The Onstage Collapse
During his third performance in Malaysia, the 62-year-old Jacky Cheung momentarily collapsed onstage, sending shockwaves through the audience.
The incident occurred as he was going down from a incline while performing his hit song, ‘Zhi Xiang Yi Sheng Gen Ni Zou’ (I Only Want To Be With You For The Rest Of My Life).
After losing his balance and collapsing on stage, Cheung swiftly regained his composure and balance and got back up. Within seconds, he resumed singing.
Explained to fans why he collapsed
Jacky Cheung later revealed that his collapse was triggered by dizziness caused by an imbalance of fluid in his ear, according to The Straits Times.
This condition, which the singer has been grappling with since childhood, is commonly associated with Meniere’s Disease..
While he has experienced bouts of dizziness due to this condition in the past, this incident marked the first time it occurred during a live concert.
Cheung’s Dedication and Adaptability
Prior to the collapse, Cheung had pushed back a concert by eight minutes due to his condition.
After the eventful night, Cheung returned to Hong Kong to recuperate and recover fully for his final three shows in Malaysia from August 18th to 20th.
In his trademark style, Jacky Cheung injected humor into the situation. He playfully acknowledged that his dance moves might be limited due to his condition but promised “extra special” moves as a result.
Embracing his age, he quipped that, unlike his fellow Tian Wang (heavenly king) Aaron Kwok, he’s not known for his dancing prowess.
