MAN AWARDED FOR HELPING POLICE TO CATCH LOAN SHARK WHO HARASSED HIS NEIGHBOUR

In a ceremony held at Woodlands Police Division on 7 October 2022, a member of the public was commended for his public spiritedness in assisting with the detection and detention of a man for an unlicensed moneylending harassment case.

On 14 September 2022 at 10.40pm, Mr Tan Ding Hui, Jeremy saw through his CCTV a man loitering outside his neighbour’s unit where he purportedly placed a debtor’s note. The man had also allegedly placed a debtor’s note at his unit.

Mr Tan contacted the Police and went to look for the man. He was spotted at the void deck and Mr Tan detained him until the arrival of the Police. The man was subsequently arrested for his suspected involvement in a case of unlicensed moneylending harassment.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Ang Eng Seng, Commander of Woodlands Police Division said, “We had the privilege to present the Public Spiritedness Award to Mr Tan Ding Hui, Jeremy today. 

This is in recognition of his invaluable contribution which led to the arrest of a man for unlicensed moneylending harassment.

Mr Tan played an important role in the arrest and his selflessness and public-spiritedness are commendable. His actions are an example of how members of the public can step up to assist the Police.

We hope that his act will serve to inspire others to keep the community safe.”
