How long do you guys take to adjust to your new role and stop thinking about your previous role?
I joined a reputable company that is expanding their operations in Singapore a few weeks ago and as much as I feel that it’s a great opportunity for me to learn new stuff, I find that I am too used to how things worked in my previous company and I do have a bit of regret somehow in joining this company.
Compared to my previous job, I have a base salary increment of only 6% (I tried to ask for 15-20% increase but they were unable to give it to me due to budget constraints and I have to accept it as this is the only offer I received), and after adding in transport allowance, I only had an increase of ~$300 after deducting CPF. This increase in salary is however, I feel negligible as my new company’s pickup point is located far from where I lived, more time and money is wasted on transport, compared to my previous company where the pickup point is near my house and I am saving a lot more in terms of transport expenses. The only thing I am looking forward to is having better benefits in my current role as my previous role is a contract basis and I can’t be certain if I would be converted to a full time role and I can’t be certain of my future in that company, so I was quite happy but sad that I left my previous company as my current role is a full time role.
What are some methods you guys take to adapt to your new role and how long do you guys take to adjust and stop thinking about your previous role? Things are very different from what I used to do and as a new hire working in a start up, things are very messy here (organisation structure are all over the place, different people working together have different supervisors), not to mention about the fact that majority of my colleagues are specially hired for this startup so a lot of them have less than 1 year of experience in here but they bonded well with each other and I find that it’s hard to gel with them. I missed my previous company for great colleagues and cheaper food compared to my current company. To be honest, I have the thoughts of job hunting for something that pays better and leave during my probation period so that it would be good for both myself and my current company but I worry that I would get blacklisted by them if I were to apply to them in the future.
The weird thing is, I don’t mind doing something similar to my previous company doing routine stuff but after a while, I crave for something new and I would get bored easily because of that.
